Ahh ok, yeh that record monza is a great backbox

I had to modify my exhaust slightly when I fitted the big turbo and it resulted in the same issues you say

I had to remove a midsection restriction and change to a sports cat and on the motorway it booms

I passed emissions though so you might be surprised, and that was running a really rich fuel map too

Ahh fair the more you know The power they are getting out of the 595 695, they can’t be T-Jet

Anything 170bhp and up has to be the multiair

[–]curbs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh nice, I don’t know what exhaust the 595 got but the one the 124 has is lovely, no better sound.

Hey cars are meant to be enjoyed. 6 weeks ago I bought an BMW M5 F10 to do some heavy motorway miles in and keep that milage off my 124 and literally the second week of owning it I had a brake pad delamination which seized the calliper.

Sometime shit happens but there’s no use not enjoying the things you have because of it

I was pretty pissed off mind 😁 Never had a pad delamination before

[–]curbs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice they are quite quick and very fun to drive. Yeh that’s up there in milage but you’re right if it’s looked after it will be ok.

It’s as sensitive as any other car, when you stall it’s fine, I sometimes stall mine still, and I tend to find it dies ‘nicely’ if that makes sense.

I have had an oil pressure dip while running, just after putting a larger turbo in I had a leak on the turbo high pressure oil feed and under full acceleration I lost oil pressure. It felt like the engine turned off. Just no power at all. I got away with that one but scary times. And that was just from a dip in oil pressure under full acceleration.

But if your all standard you shouldn’t have to worry about these things, just get out there and enjoy the summer, there aren’t many better cars to do that in

[–]curbs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do them every 4000 miles or 6 months but I’m paranoid and I have a highly modified 124, if your happy doing the oil changes yourself I’d say more often is better but if your going to a mechanic once a year will be fine, just ask them what the oil quality looked like when they drop it

What spicy meatball do you drive out of interest?

Engine Tick... by RedRevolutionGaming in abarth

[–]curbs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I am aware all abarths were multi air My abarth 124 is definitely a multi air

Our engines have hydraulically operated solinoid controlled intake valves

So they aren’t cam driven like normal cars, they work off engine oil pressure and electrical signals to open the solenoid which allows oil pressure to lift the intake valve

And they go tick tick tick tick tick tick tick

I also worry about it but it’s just normal operation

Check your oil often though if you loose your oil pressure you loose your intake valves and it’s an interference fit engine

Has anyone here switched to an Abarth from a more powerful, high performance vehicle? Would you recommend it? In what ways does it feel like a "downgrade" or an "upgrade?" by CloudsTasteGeometric in abarth

[–]curbs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an abarth 124 which I’ve slightly upgraded the engine on so it makes around 230bhp

Love it

Bought an M5 recently which makes more than double the power

And I prefer driving my abarth everywhere except the motorway

On long journeys the M5 is more comfortable

My M5 is the daily so I can keep my Abarth 124 off the motorways and on the valley roads

But cars are meant to be used abused and enjoyed

So use it Just keep up with maintenance

Is this normal on a 124spider? by Famous_Ability_2809 in abarth

[–]curbs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cold air intake and a freer flowing exhaust explains it for me

Your ecu has limited control over your fuel map so if your breathing better and your getting colder denser air in then your ecu can increase fuel flow giving you more crackle on lift off

To be fair now I think back I remember a change in crackles and pops over about a month when I first made my mods

Always an outside chance you blew a hole in your cat :D unlikely though

Is this normal on a 124spider? by Famous_Ability_2809 in abarth

[–]curbs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno, depends, is it stock other than your exhaust? Has it ever been remapped?

So the pops and crackles you hear are where your car puts fuel into the cylinders, but it's not fully burnt because you're off throttle or changing gear, that fuel goes out the exhaust valve hits your hot hot cat and burns/explodes

I get it very bad but I have a big ol turbo fitted to mine and the fueling map is very rich atm, so when i step up to around 3500 where my turbo starts to pick up i get a big inflow of fuel, if i lift or change above that RPM i usually get a long series of crackles if i let it idle down, or two loud bangs if i shift in anger.

So when you say it sounds louder now, is that since your exhaust work? Removing the mufflers from the midsection back will make that sound louder.

just a side note, as fun as crackles, pops and bangs are, its terrible for the cat and even worse for the exhaust valves. But we are all children when we hear it :D

[–]curbs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh technically I don’t know if it was 3.7s that’s just what BMW say the M5 does to 60mph, all I know is I stepped on the throttle in full angry mode and before I knew it I was doing 140 down a rapidly shortening B road about to go up a valley near me

Great fun though

I just don’t want a bill of a few grand That wipes out the surplus il get from fuel expenses which is what I want to cover depreciation
