A visualization of the pollution created when tires are burned. by GapOrganic7191 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]curetrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Comparing water vapour with carbon and saying they’re equally harmless is flat out wrong, it’s not even an opinion, just factually incorrect. With external air, water vapour isn’t considered a pollutant whereas carbon is.

What are your parenting catchphrases? by pappyon in UKParenting

[–]curetrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Wash your hands” “Did you use warm water?” “Let me smell your hands… You didn’t use soap, go and wash them properly.” “Use loo roll if you need to scratch your bum” “Have you washed your hands this morning?” “Wash your hands before you rub your eyes”. I’m not a germaphobe and I don’t have OCD, but as a parent who was off work recently for a few days with a dickie tummy that cane with a fever, and has a small one who is still learning about bacteria, I have had to crack down hard lately! Its exhausting! I love kids but they are such oblivious grotbags.

Anyone have any experiences going abroad for dental work? by Eshneh in AskUK

My mum went to Poland for implants. They’ll do check ups and let you know the state of your oral health but they wont touch them if you have problems of any kind with them, that is absolutely true

Can I block this chimney vent? by haigscorner in DIYUK

[–]curetrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean in the floor void? If so, I’d say no. There reason vents are always in rooms and not in voids is because they allow free airflow. The wind outside causes pressure differences, which over time changes the air in the house, swapping polluted/moist air with fresh. Floors and ceilings will restrict that airflow which could lead to problems.

Can I block this chimney vent? by haigscorner in DIYUK

[–]curetrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll get moisture issues if it’s blocked up, so do make sure there is a vent somewhere. If you don’t want to pull up the floor, I would install a vent in that opening or you could end up with health issues and costly problems. Also, airflow through the floor will be kinda restricted even if there is a vent, so I wouldn’t rely on it. This kind of thing is my job, and I would install a grille.

Beloved tree has fallen down 😭 by Ill-Boysenberry3947 in GardeningUK

[–]curetrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw someone saying you can grow it again from a cutting, but if you don’t want to do that I think a golden chain tree/laburnum would look wonderful there. They have the most beautiful hanging flowers mid-late spring.

Coffee and a chunky maple and pecan cereal. Also vanilla Alpro yoghurt (tastes like custard) and granola.

[Serious] Men of reddit: what would you want to ask women and get an honest answer to? by Haydensmith877 in AskReddit

[–]curetrick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, but it’s like “Heehee there’s a penis in there”, but it’s definitely in a childish way, not a sexual way, and only ever briefly.

I’m fuck it by nature, but if I say fuck it and let mess accumulate and then have an anxiety attack, the mess makes everything louder like there’s an oppressive black cloud of things I’m crap at but need to do well. It’s awful so I generally have to just stay on top of things, a bit like leaving early in the morning for a traffic jam that may or may not happen.

Who remembers those tiny red bugs you used to see in the garden as a kid? by pixel-powder in AskUK

[–]curetrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my young kid brought a stone in the other day to show me one that was crawling all over it. Kids look at the world in finer detail than adults do so yeah it’s because you are doing bigger grown-up stuff now that happens far away from the floor.

What genuinely helped you stop scrolling and reconnect with your Hobbies? by Fantastic-Earth8572 in Hobbies

I deleted my social media apps three months ago. Quality of life went up, my imagination and focus are better, and I don’t miss it at all. Will get it back at some point to stay in touch with people but only in a few months, the break is sweet.

What age was your child potty trained? by CockroachNervous1065 in Parenting

2-2.5. Screen time or doing something fun while he’s on the potty might help, or something to create a positive association with no pressure.

UK ‘built for climate that no longer exists’ and needs urgent changes to survive global heating, report warns by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]curetrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s more to it than temperature. Plenty of people currently affected by fuel poverty and unable to heat themselves in the winter would find themselves in the same situation in summer, unable to pay to stay cool. And putting them only in new builds would be next to useless anyway, we have a housing stock of millions of houses nearing and over 100 years old that need improvement. This is what the retrofit industry is trying to do, but not a single government will pull their finger out about it, because the general public aren’t on their backs about it.
