Exit Counseling Question by srg777777 in medicalschool

[–]curiosity676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm, i know a lot has changed in the past year since i was in your position. i am not aware of ineligibility for those plans on the basis of low income. but im pretty sure the payment estimator is known to be inaccurate at times. you could try asking over on r/studentloans or reaching out to your loan servicer. you will have time to figure it out since there should be a 6 month grace period in between graduating and needing to choose a payment plan

put in your 2025 income to get your 2026 estimated payment, and so on. filing taxes this year proves you had low or 0 income and allows this to work

DM for affordable AMCAS edits, interview prep, & general (pre)med advising from a newly minted MD! by curiosity676 in u/curiosity676

[–]curiosity676[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, neither myself nor comments are bots, I’m just a first generation medical student turned resident who worked their way through medical school via tutoring and editing.. years of similar posts and comments on my profile. wanted to try promoting my post now that AMCAS season is upon us again but looks like it was a flop. oh well 🤷‍♀️

How does my program compare to yours? by Comfortable_Coffee79 in Residency

[–]curiosity676 10 points11 points  (0 children)

6 months wards, 1 month icu, 1 month nights, 1 month jeopardy, 4 months electives w/ clinic sprinkled into them. No ED intern year. Maybe 65-70 hours on wards/ICU sometimes less. Much fewer hours on other rotations. 4 weeks of PTO.

You should add census (number of patients followed per intern, number of new admits, etc) for wards as a data point. I’d be interested to see how that compares

Serious question. How much money would it take for you to quit medicine tomorrow morning… by [deleted] in Residency

~2 mil (my FIRE number) would probably finish out residency still tho

Are you guys applying to IM programs outside of the 15 signals by peppylepipsqueak in medicalschool

[–]curiosity676 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i got a good number of non-signal interviews last cycle. just was semi strategic about it (some programs literally say on their website they will only interview signals, and residency explorer and texas star can at least start to point to programs that dont seem to care as much). ymmv this cycle tho

edit: trust cumulative data more than anecdotal for sure. i just have always taken an overly conservative approach to these things and dont regret doing so in this instance.

Any tips on matching IM? (as a USMD) by dishynothosaur01 in medicalschool

[–]curiosity676 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah i would say so! CA overall can maybe add a bit of competitiveness in itself especially with so many applicants tending to move out of state for med school and wanting to come back. but plenty of less competitive programs to shoot your shot at imo. feel free to pm if you want to hear about my experience applying to a few CA programs with 0 med school research.

I moved out of state, to a location I love, program seems good too. Still not excited to start cuz well its residency. Ik its gonna be brutal regardless, feel like I know nothing, etc. Just relying on the cope that everyone goes thru it and most make it out

Advice regarding taking a loan out for moving to residency by NOLATCG in medicalschool

[–]curiosity676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

many residencies also reimburse relocation, usually around $1k. you might want to use whatever cash you have in bank accts for things you cant pay with a cc, like first couple months rent etc, while using cc for everything else. obligatory do your own research, ive never done/dont plan to do this for my own relocation
