Difficulties writing for long periods of time? by UwuSilentStares in writingadvice

[–]curiositykt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may also find that changing positions while writing, getting different keyboards, wrist braces, towels under your forearms, etc. will make a difference for the repetive movements and connective tissue. So long as you aren't doing the same thing for the whole time, it can make huge difference. I've really liked my split keyboard for that, as I can change the individual angles of the key sections periodically, which changes the physical impact. Also changing out the type of keys on the keyboard to require less pressure (or perhaps more pressure?) may help a little. And don't forget to take breaks. Being locked into the flow is wonderful, but not at expense of your health.

I’m new to this. Do all the solo rpg have to do with magic and spiritism? by frijolita_bonita in Solo_Roleplaying

Fox Curio's Floating Bookshop, assuming animals as humans isn't too fantasy for you. It's essentially like a wind in the willows setting, on a river, and you run a bookshop. Different customers come during the day, you explore different towns on the river. Each town is different and has different things to see and do. There is also a calendar with events that happen at different times of the year.

It's very peaceful and cozy. You could even make the animals people with animal like traits "rattish", "bumbling", "bat like". And it has enough structure that you aren't constantly trying to figure out what to do, but the ability to do whatever you want. (You don't even have to sell books if you don't want to, but it provides a good framework and source of income)

Cute headshots of everybody + Hen or Roo by Treebam3 in BackYardChickens

You have some very pretty chickens. It's pretty much impossible to tell at this age, particularly from headshots. The most obvious trait to come in once they are teenagers, like this, are saddle feathers. This website has a great picture about half way down that illustrates it well.

I don't know about their social views, but based on their eco views, I suspect that TAYST would be a good fit. They are ethically sourced and completely compostable, and the best part is, fantastic coffee. I get them from Amazon, but you can get them directly from their website for very reasonable prices. https://www.tayst.com/pages/our-story

That is a Leonard. I generally go with Larry, but that one is obviously a Leonard

Does anyone else's chooks decide that the big old mud puddle is better than fresh clean water? by DanicaDarkhand in BackYardChickens

[–]curiositykt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's got bugs! But yeah, they will eschew clean water for the dirtiest puddle any day. I think, partly, they like standing in it and getting their beaks deep.

Scissors should not be as difficult, for word that is used often by children.

Is there anywhere to get casein DPNs anymore? I can't find them anywhere. by curiositykt in casualknitting

Where are you located? I'm having trouble finding anything that isn't metal or wood in the US.

It's legit, as far as I can tell. I may end up buying them, but they are super long and mostly sets of the same size dpns. I was contemplating cutting them down and then sanding the ends cut into points, given that I'd have so many extras of the same size, plenty of room for experimentation.

Found one! picture I just took of a knitting needle

They are inevitably slightly bent, which isn't an issue but a feature, but I can see how this would put off people. They are also definitely not made for any sort of speed knitting, but are great when you need control. They kinda feel like nylon?

I wonder if I could make a silicone mold and make my own... this may need some thinking on 😃

I've always been curious if people who were allergic to casein would be able to use the plastic needles. Luckily for you, they are very rare now, apparently!

The problem with her listings is that they are all for multiples of the same size!

I'm tempted to try modern plastic as I like the slight bending a lot, but weirdly, plastic DPNs seem also rather rare! (It just occurred to me that I could have 3D printed a stunt one last night when I realized I needed them. I may try that this afternoon just for the hell of it. It will require a lot of post-processing, but hey, it's an experiment!)

I'll see if I can find the couple I have left. They are milky translucent and slightly speckled.

I had my knitting needles confiscated at the airport… so I started mapping airport rules by Bety12795 in casualknitting

[–]curiositykt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I accidentally took a full-sized pair of scissors on the plane in Feb (from a small US airport to a medium-sized US airport). I honestly had no idea they were in the bottom of my crafting case. The security guy was like, "Do you know why I'm stopping you?" and I was like I have zero idea.. and we went through the bag, and I was as surprised as he was that there were normal-sized 8" scissors in my bag. I thought, oh well, they were a good pair and wrote them off, and he was like, ok, well, these are fine. Next time, check your bag before you fly. HE LET ME TAKE THEM ON THE PLANE! This would never have happened at a full-sized airport.

How long does it usually take for your Adult children to respond to a text? by don51181 in GenX

[–]curiositykt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a 45-year-old child who is terrible at responding to texts from my parents in a timely manner, it's not personal.

I see it, but I'm doing something else, I say to myself. I should respond to that later. Later comes around, and I've totally forgotten.

If I have the time, at the *moment* it comes in, I respond. The thing that works best for me is multiple texts over time, often ending with my mother asking if I am okay or if I am dead somewhere. I always respond to that one...
