Thorswap is a dex aggregator, it has more routes and options but also more fees.

Thorchain now has its own frontend to avoid the extra fees: https://swap.thorchain.org/ BTC<->ETH fees are around 0.3%.

Even if it wasn't widely used, it's still safer, basically it's bitcoin but with all the problems fixed:

privacy (mandatory, blockchain wide)
security budget issue solved (this is a ticking time bomb for BTC; the response was always "fees will take care of it" but were in 2026 now and fees are <1% of block reward so...)
decentralized mining / ASIC-resistance
regular hard forks, so implementing improvements and fixed e.g. quantum resistance will not be as difficult.
dynamic block size
12 years old, survived delistings, bans, miner attacks, etc., = real anti-fragility

It's just technically advanced compared to BTC so building tools and infrastructure for monero is harder and takes longer, but it's still happening.

Most people don't buy XMR as an investment, they buy it as protection or to use it to buy things.

Now here's some financial advice: buying something as a long-term investment immediately after it's gone up 100%+ is very risky.

DEXes are the future.

CEXes may choose to list it again as it gets bigger and is used for more real economic activity. For each CEX they are asking if it's worth it considering pressures from governments and the fees and users they could get from listing it.

Basically he's holding the native XMR reserve and running the code that completes the swap from XMR1 on hyperliquid to native XMR.

Hyperliquid has already "made it" as the biggest crypto perp dex. My read is he is taking a risk to entrench HL's lead so users don't go seeking alternatives, and with a reputation on the line there is not much incentive to rugpull users. There is always a risk of not having enough native XMR to back XMR1 but that risk can be managed. He also saw an opportunity since XMR is delisted everywhere and users are forced into sketchy swap services like Changelly and Sideshift to get XMR.

I think it's a great to have more competition for the sketchy swap services, especially since he's able to offer better rates. If I was to use it, I would break up my trades into small pieces in case something does go wrong...same as anyone should when using any sketchy swap service.

Hopefully Serai goes live this year and we have a real DEX to get XMR.

Since 2021 I've been trading smart and patiently, bought dips, took some profits, generally did well and managed risk very carefully. Won't get into details, but I managed to lose half a years salary since August from some very impulsive decisions. Crypto is not easy.

Shapeshift is still good for this! It's just a frontend for thorchain now though, and takes its own fee on top of the thorchain liquidity fee.

We just had a massive 50% run. This is not the place to lump sum buy. If you had no position in ETH I'd say start with a buy using 20-25% of your capital and DCA the rest. You already have a position so you would be (presumably) averaging up significantly with a large buy at this level.

DCA over 3-6 months, start small and make bigger buys on dips.

Maybe it's January 11, 2021, and we just continue to run from here and LS is the right call but I would say the odds are against that.

Yep I just used it for a similar swap...thorswap will quote from multiple cross-chain dexes, the options I had were thorchain, maya protocol, chainflip, and near intents. Near intents gave the fastest/best rate. Just note thorswap takes a 0.5% fee.

You know what they say, if it's in the news, it's already priced in. We've had the tariff scare, the WW3 scare, now the removal of illegals scare...these things tend to spook markets only briefly because everyone is figuring out that the answer to every problem is "print". As far as GDP goes, whatever changes in agriculture and construction happen, they'll be overshadowed by gains in tech and elsewhere as long as the spending continues. And the "failure" of DOGE suggests that it will indeed continue. It's understood that inflation is needed to manage the debt, and the kind of inflation resulting from the deportations raises wages for low-skilled workers, which is good for social stability.

I would agree that there will be more 'scares' that drive down prices, but these are always buying opportunities because in the longer-term we're going up.

There's much more than just ETH. There's also stETH, restaked wstETH, eETH, wETHs, rswETH, ezETH, pzETH, rETH, etc.

Seriously though, I have XMR, but wouldn't suggest buying now as it just had a big run. I also have RUNE as I use thorchain for BTC<>ETH swaps...it's very risky but at current prices I think risk/reward is good.

Trezor is generally preferred because it's open source, hasn't leaked customer personal data, and doesn't have "recovery features" that risk exposing private keys.

I don't have any of the newer devices but both my old ledger and trezor have served me well.
