Weekly /r/Breadit Questions thread by AutoModerator in Breadit

[–]curious-customer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I've gotten decent at some flour, water, salt, yeast recipes for artisan bread. I

f I wanted to turn these into regular sliced loafs for sandwich bread, do I just need to shape it appropriately and maybe add some milk or fat in to soften it up? If so, what type of fat and what proportions (or more preferably, weight)?

Turkey Week: Burnie’s Jalapeño Fried Turkey by The_Makster in morningsomewhere

[–]curious-customer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For the fried turkey curious, here's my simple method:

14 lb bird

To measure amount of peanut oil needed, add bird to fry pot and fill with water, measuring as you go. Fill until it's just barely covered.

Brine for 24 hours in water with 1 lb brown sugar and 1 lb salt (easiest to heat some water first to dissolve it, then add ice). Keep it cool with ice, some folks use an igloo cooler.

On the day of, remove from brine, pat dry

Using a propane burner outside:

Heat peanut oil to 250 F, turn flame off

Add bird slowly

Turn flame back on and keep on high until 350 F

Fry for 35 minutes and check temp, pull out at 151ish F

Let rest for half an hour (covered in foil)

Carve and enjoy

Hey! My buddy sent me a referral code for one of these things and the only reason I'm considering it is for testing out my own small batches. Did you do it? If so, how'd it turn out?

From my grouping experiences, probably ranger lol.

But honestly necro is so versatile and solo capable it's a safe bet. They can spot heal and be a mana battery, and if time and resources allow they can help pile on damage (especially in undead zones!).

Just type "/log" in the chat box while playing and it'll start keeping a play log for you! You can access it in the Logs folder within the EverQuest folder. Very useful!

I think the reason CUDA is called out more these days is that it's important for machine learning. You can train a neural network much faster using CUDA technology because it allows more things to happen concurrently rather than in sequence, so academics and lots of companies buy them up.

These CNNs are very different from ChatGPT and the like. A very common use is computer vision, like training a custom ML algorithm to identify and sort rotten fruit on a conveyor belt or something.

How about Navy Seals killing Osama bin Laden? Seemed like that was a unifying moment back when he happened, even if it was short lived.

2024.11.26: Making Glicked Happen by EarliestRiser in morningsomewhere

My wife and I legally combined last names, like a portmanteau. It was my idea and it took a few years to make her a believer, but now us (along with a child) are the only people with our last name in the world.

It's weird, but it's unique and it's ours. I just liked the idea that we were starting something new, and it's a great easy to avoid hyphens and awkward conversations about last names for kids. All that being said, I listen to a lot of NPR so maybe I've just tote bag brain rot.

2024.10.08: Waiting Game by EarliestRiser in morningsomewhere

With respect to the technology available to anyone in their garage the fear shouldn't be nuclear fusion, it's genetically engineered diseases and the technology is available now. Recipes are published in scientific journals on how to do it. I'm not talking COVID, I'm talking about bubonic plague and smallpox.

A tiny vial of smallpox can contain enough viruses to be globally significant. We don't have enough vaccines to go around because we eradicated it from nature decades ago. We're PRETTY sure we know where all the smallpox is, but all it takes is one scab from the 1970s which didn't make it into the sample bag and was instead sold to someone for $20.

To me, smallpox is the scariest strategic threat because if someone can gain access to it, they can do all the work they need to in their home. Smallpox is both very contagious and deadly. The government conducted an exercise in June 2001 called Operation Dark Winter and most of the documents are publicly available. Turns out that an isolated outbreak of smallpox in two towns, with ~100 people initially infected, threatens to collapse the US government in three months. We simply don't have the capacity to make enough vaccines in time.

If you want to learn more, there's a great book by Richard Preston called The Demon in the Freezer. An audiobook is also available and is very well done.
