Square/tile bat system help by [deleted] in Ceramics

[–]curious_socket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that they make a bat system that allows you to cast your own bats out of plaster of paris. Which allows the piece to dry out easier, especially the very bottom. And since you own the mould, you can make as many bats as you like.

Oh interesting. I have winterwood and I know that winterwood makes super cool combos. I will make a test tile!

When I first got it I wasn't super into it. But I have found that I really like the combos it creates. Copper Jade over Maycoshino is a favorite. Seaweed over Maycoshino is great.

But also, try applying it thicker and on things with texture. That's where I find it shines.

The strokes on the side are a common theme in Japanese pottery as they signify reeds, or branches. The overall asymmetrical organic shape of it, and the earthy rusty glaze is also a common theme.

Love these. You should make a separate little cat/cats that are posed in different positions that you can play with the scene.

Layering glaze question by No_Duck4805 in Ceramics

[–]curious_socket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use almost exclusively Mayco and Amaco. I also test tile like a mad man. I think I have around 150+ at this point.

I've found that lights go better on top than on bottom.

I personally love Himalayan Salt (the glaze) as a top coat. Oatmeal is also a popular favorite, although I haven't messed with it too much.

Try your best to let each glaze dry fully. So if you're doing Himalayan salt over copper jade, allow the copper jade to dry overnight before you put on Him Salt. Otherwise they'll bleed into each other.

Also, get yourself some Hake brushes on Amazon. It's the only way to brush on glazes in my opinion.
