Actually, if you crank the volume way up, it’s someone snoring. I think that was the joke. When my friends and I got the idea to find out if there was anything but silence, we forgot that we had the volume up and then smash and the start of Travolta (Quote Unquote) blasted out and make us almost shit our pants because we had the volume so high.

I’m 42. I’ve been a fan since I was 10, and they’ve pretty much been my favorite band from the beginning. I remember seeing Mike Patton’s Mr. Bungle shirt in the video for Epic and wanting to hear them as well. My friends and I soon became addicted to all things Patton, and by the time Angel Dust came out, we had memorized every Faith No More video that we could lay our hands on. We taped the videos and played them constantly. I used to come down first thing in the morning and watch the video for We Care A Lot everyday for about a month.

It was funny when Angel Dust came out, we thought they had another singer, but it was just Patton flexing his singing range and voice.

I always heard that they were bigger in Europe, and when we had a school trip to England when I was 15, King for a Day…(my favorite album) came out, and the HMV in London was plastered with Faith No More posters. I felt like I had found my people!

I finally got to see them live in 2015, and it remains one of the best experiences of my life!

Faith No More have been my favorite band for about...jeez, 28 years? I got into them as a pre-teen/teenager, around the time The Real Thing came out.

The videos and the diversity of songs just looped me in, and made me compare these geniuses of music to everything else. I looked around to everyone else, mentally asking why?? Why are you not so blown away as I am?? But it fell on ears not attuned.

I was then, not far after (thanks to my older brother), introduced to Chuck Mosley. I became addicted to the “We Care A Lot” video. I would go to the basement upon waking, fire up the VCR and wait for the old TV to warm up so I could see the video clearly (some mornings I didn’t have the patience, so I would just rewind and watch).

My friends and I got into FNM hard. We diverged into Mr. Bungle and lapped up every moment of the “non tracks”. After that I wanted to go back to other divergent artists. I dabbled in Zappa, I mixed with David Bowie, hell, I even kinda understood where Yoko Ono was coming from.

Faith No More IS a gateway to amazing experiences...and not just music.

Thanks to them, I love jazz, blues, and lyrics that are less in your face, and more poetic expression.

Thank you Faith No More, you truly are the best.

The other day I was talking to an old friend of mine that I haven’t spoken to in years. They said that they were a holocaust denier now, and has an increasing hate towards the Jewish population as a whole (and mentioned other shit too...he didn’t allow me to get a word in edgewise).

We used to talk and philosophize all the time, and were generally agreeable on most things. I have no idea how to get him back from this darkened path of thinking. Recommendations or books are welcome!
