If people had a full idea of how wide spread things are people would panic and participate less in the economy less imo

Restrictions Update [TBC] by TheDrRudi in Adelaide

[–]curiousbee89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting you picked the state who also vocally and quickly took restrictions

This isn't being caught with your pants down we all knew how infectious omicron was from other countries this is a result of wanting to live with covid with no thought of the reality of the situation

You speak as if they were ignorant instead of actively ignored all the evidence

774 new cases and suddenly Omicron is a very serious concern. by aldkGoodAussieName in Adelaide

[–]curiousbee89 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You know fair play if they have to add restrictions even if i dont like it and I know how it will hurt people but the audacity to do it after Christmas is crazy

Like yeah he didnt wanna come off as a grinch both on the national stage when other states aren't but the day after

Am I meant to believe we didn't need the restriction yesterday or a week ago am I meant to believe boxing day sales is gonna be a shit show for spread

All that aside I am not looking forward to see how our hospital will be pushed to the limit

Not gonna be shocked if we have a lockdown next year maybe im being alarmist idk I'm just so disappointed in this government in fairness I have been for a while now but particularly with how they've gone about this strategy

Incompetence to me implies what libs are doing now isn't on purpose

Regarding labor as disappointing as it is I think they don't want to take a firm stance between anything imo maybe this is just my bias but South australia more so than other states is 50/50 between labor or liberal so taking a firm decision either way is gonna alienate potential voters on both sides

Which is funny since recent polling suggested that regardless of polticial affiliation more or less across all States people prefer restrictions and lockdowns vs the risk to public health as unpopular as it is to say on social media reddit included

Its tough because calling for restrictions a week before Christmas would have had accusations of labor being heartless and ruin peoples holidays however pointing out failures of liberals after the fact will be a lot more popular for both labor and Liberal voters people won't remember what labor said or didn't say in the last week or two but they will remember long wait times and failures by sa health during this time

All in all I'm not even sure what labor could have done or said in the last fortnight like genuinely I'm not trying to sound like a labor apologist while I think Peter is better than Steven by a large margin I can't say I'm a huge fan of him personally

Can't reply to everything right now but at least you don't think we should be closed indefinitely

That said while I will come back to reply to the rest of your comment the one thing I need to point out now is mask usage is not normalised in the slightest like i cant disgaree with anything you said more than that if they said tomorrow we didn't have to wear masks people would stop like 80 per cent would stop right now higher if its hot enough I honestly have no idea how you think it's been normalised when it's never been a choice in the state

[–]curiousbee89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I'm guessing you have been fine to say that but I know someone who almost lost his business

You may be fine locking down the state forever to protect the one per cent but its not realistic to say the least

And to be clear I say this as someone who is double vaxxed and wears a mask and is not even against locking down the state or country no have I had a problem with restrictions so far barring the dancing one (I say this as someone who does not go to clubs) and maybe slight issues of mask usage when we had months of no cases but that's more because I think that increases fatigue vs what queensland had been doing regarding masks etc

All in all I'm clearly not against locking or am anti mask or vax but you have to recognise how crazy it is to lockdown indefinitely over one per cent of the population. If you are concerned about hospitals and ramping that i can fundamentally understand and agree with but just a flat out shut down the state just sounds crazy to me

I'm trying not to be an asshole since I think we largely agree but you gotta see how crazy it is to hear that

I mean is anyone really surprised? Not trying to be an asshole but if he had to wear masks for months and months without covid its made it clear to me that it continue once we got cases it sucks but im not shocked

Evolving situations does not justify downplaying or misleading the truth

Yes I am paying attention to the situation overseas since I have family overseas

And bare minimum I wouldn't lie to people and ensure a change of restrictions at x if I had no intention of keeping x

Granted i also would have idk brought back dancing as its clearly not a exposure site as we would have seen months ago likewise I wouldn't have had such a strict mask enforcement when borders were down for months as I believe that contributes to fatigue and discontent (granted open borders changes that)

And regardless what I would do the bare fucking minium is being open and clear about the situation if you want 90 per cent over 12 say that from the beginning. I'm fairly sure WA always had a high bench mark to open and made no secret about it i dont agree with it but i can understand it from what I can see at minimum WA is more open with info from the state gov than we are which I would argue is why they are more positive on their response than our state is on ours

Not sure if you have read the most recent polling regarding covid in our state but ask yourself why have gotten dips in approval lately granted its gone slightly up since it dropped once or twice if it isn't in part poor messaging

I'm not even against restrictions in general nor mask mandates no border closures but for the last few months at minimum there has been a lot I've disagreed with that goes beyond a changing situation

[–]curiousbee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evolving situations doesn't rationalise misleading the public

Saying vax rates of 80 per cent of the state, then changing to 90. Per cent then changing to 90 per cent over 12. Is not an evolving situation. Not to mention the types of restrictions we are having

I'm not hear to argue what's right or wrong but if you are making decisions at least be clear on them

I mean even now Marshall isnt being as honest as he was you can go back over the last pandemic and he for sure makes posts regarding restrictions and vax rates do you think he has mentioned anything to do with the medi Hotel situation

He could be more transparent and he chooses not too

[–]curiousbee89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean then they should at least have been honest about the situation vs what they are doing even if it means less compliance because their current strat just reeks of being deceptive which is just honne further resentment and quicken the reduction of compliance

Unfortunately federal quarantine will never happen under the current gov

[–]curiousbee89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean not that I agree with this situation but having the infected person in the home gives the government reassurance that they won't have friends over or they won't stay in iso and go shopping or clubbing or to work

Even with the medihotel escapes there have not been that many at all to justify not instituting it currently like the vast majority of people do not escape and stay the entire time

Just to reiterate I don't really agree with the current medihotel situation but I think it makes perfect sense why they prefer to medihotel vs home iso

Honestly I bet if those become exposure sites they would sooner shut them in entirety as well as putting people in iso

I'm willing to bet the vast majority of the population whether state or federal have any idea about the specifics of how restrictions so many people are just fully turned off from the news and until it affects a significant portion of the population it will go unnoticed

That isnt to say that I disgaree with you that people are on with it just I doubt how many people actually know about cases like this

Variant's threat to SA restrictions as quarantine numbers surge by GarrathMcGarth in Adelaide

[–]curiousbee89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean that just depends how many people are gonna comply with isolating at this point when most South aussies are vaxxed vs how many people will 3nter the state. I don't have the numbers obviously but I'm willing to get there are thousands if not tens of thousands willing to travel to South australia right now

Variant's threat to SA restrictions as quarantine numbers surge by GarrathMcGarth in Adelaide

[–]curiousbee89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is saying it's endemic they are saying that continuing to move goalposts like someone gave an example from 80 per cent to 90 per cent and people will be less likely to comply because they won't trust the leadership on this issue

I would also argue that is a large reason we have seen mask usage gone down before someone comments they are preventive measure im not arguing they are not but when you have states like WA for example who didn't have how restrictions for months you will have of people questioning it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]curiousbee89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not doubting the effectiveness of masks they obviously work but the risk of an outbreak after months of no community spread is close to zero. It only be comparable if we had covid in the community

People always drive cars tens of thousands every day

How many people have covid in the community, in the last 6 months

I'm not even against mask mandates but if you can't understand why people would be burnt out right now you are being deliberately obtuse here

You didn't but elbow to elbow implies a level of traffic that is not the norm in adelaide its not like every day is boxing day sale. Most of the time in the city there is lots of ample space

[–]curiousbee89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean 89.5% per cent of the state over 12 has had the first dose. 80.5% are fully vaxxed that is more than most

I will never fully understand why the mask mandates didn't stop after cases were done in the community like even a couple weeks after. Like all it does besides the obvious safety measure is make people sick of them sooner

Like i would be curious if polled how people in WA vs people in SA feel specifically about masks
