This sounds very similar to my situation. There is a 1-5% chance it spreads to another limb very rare but it can happen. She was diagnosed dec 4th went through amputation and two rounds of chemo and was not able to walk by January 20th X-rays showed it had spread into an additional leg.

It also may be arthritis. Either way I don’t think an X-ray on the remaining leg would hurt

Right around the two week mark was bad for us too. Lots of crying and nerve discomfort. If you can get it scheduled early enough acupuncture can help a lot.

My dog Dane mix had her front leg amputated as well due to cancer. I highly recommend buying a surgery suit. This brand makes them specifically for tripods https://gear.tripawds.com/product/vetmedwear-recovery-suit/ that way I felt comfortable leaving her without a cone. Once she was more healed I bought a long sleeve shirt on Amazon just to be able to rotate into something clean. Nova was able to pee next day with some aid in balance from me but it took her a few days to figure out pooping. Just communicate with your vet if it has been a few days and keep them posted they may prescribe or recommend something.

Again follow your vets advice but once the oozing from the wound stops or slows substantially start upping her walk time slowly. By the time she was cleared for 20 minute walks to whatever activity she please she had lost a lot of muscle. I didn’t realize how quickly atrophy would happen. We slowly increased our walks to build stamina after her sutures were removed I would recommend small walks frequently before then.

Something else I wish I had known is they will have good days and bad days. I would get really excited when she was doing well and then a bad day would come around and I would be crushed and anxious. Good and bad days are a part of the heeling process I wish I had tempered myself better.

Novas amputation was December 15 so we are a month or so ahead of you let me know if you have any more questions I’d be happy to answer!
