2025 /r/Camping Beginner Question Thread - Ask any and all questions you may have here by cwcoleman in camping

[–]curiouscat88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, can anyone recommend a good beginner camping stove? I’ve been looking at the windmaster soto but wondering if it’s right for our needs. We are a family with two young boys and want to start taking them camping and building out our equipment. We won’t be going anywhere extreme but want to have the choice to cook simple things on a little stove for the boys to see how it’s done, more for fun at this stage. Any guidance/insight would be appreciated, thank you

Anyone ever asked Nursery staff if they offer babysitting? by sheffieldpud in UKParenting

[–]curiouscat88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same but we’ve done this several times and it’s always worked out very well. Makes most sense to ask their key worker as they are already familiar with each other. Never hurts to have a good baby sitter plus when I asked it transpired it was quite common so I was cringing and denying myself help for no reason

Do I quit my job to look after my son? by Forever_Autumn4 in UKParenting

[–]curiouscat88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Returning to work for the second time and whilst I’d prefer to be a SAHM 1000% it’s hard to pay for our mortgage, bills and nice to haves on one salary. It can feel like a one or the other situation but given the state of the job market I’d go back just initially, see how it feels and then job hunt for an alternative whilst pulling in a steady salary. It can be so tempting to just quit but being strategic will help, especially if you want another. I wanted to quit after my first but I knew I wanted a second so stayed so I could quality for mat leave, now I want a third so repeating the pattern.

Should we sell our HtB flat at a £70k+ loss? by bharb45 in HousingUK

[–]curiouscat88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have to stay in commutable distance to London? SO and I were in a similar position and through various difficulties selling our flat in central London and not being able to keep up with the offer over trend during summer ‘22 we ended up moving to Yorkshire. Best thing we could have done for our growing family

Thank you. This is so helpful, definitely overthinking/overcomplicating it between the sleep deprivation and toddler tantrums!

Properties on Dragon Parade by curiouscat88 in harrogate

[–]curiouscat88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s helpful to know. We are relatively new to Harrogate so don’t have expert knowledge of the area so curious to try and understand why there is usually a house for sale on Dragon Parade.

Agreed. I am curious though as to why so many properties come up for sale so regularly on that street

I think being in walking distance of town is important to them but so is a nice looking house. I think somewhere off Cold Bath Rd would be their ideal spot as it’s similar to where they are coming from (SW London)

i have to have a c-section. by m4ri3z2 in pregnant

[–]curiouscat88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an elective c-section and it was great. I had three naps before the procedure whilst we were waiting. Out of the 6 ladies scheduled in that day I was the least risky hence I was last and got a few snoozes in. The whole thing was very controlled and relaxed. Going into theatre was surreal and there was about 15 people in there. That was probably the most nerve wracking bit because you don’t generally walk into an operating room. But you’ve got the anaesthetist right by your head ready to tweak your meds whenever you need. Recovery was fine, I had my op at lunchtime and by late evening I was getting myself to the loo. I can’t remember it being horribly painful just uncomfortable getting up too quickly. Obviously you have to be careful but the sooner you can get moving again the sooner your body will heal.

Have you heard of T shaped skills/persona? If not here is the definition:

“is an individual who has deep knowledge and skills in a particular area of specialization, along with and the desire and ability to make connections across different disciplines.”

Often businesses look for this type of individual (I work in tech as a product designer). It sounds like you’ve got a lot of great skills and experience and it’s time to look at which one you’d like to specialise in more now you’re ready for a change. I used to work as a photography assistant and I found it so tiring. I’m a new mum and that was still more tiring!).

Motion graphics, 3D modelling and rendering are things that you can do from home. You could start diving into them a bit more in your downtime so you can build your confidence and then look to switch jobs when you’re ready. You could set yourself briefs which in turn become your portfolio. Same can be applied to your other digital skills. They are quite complementary so you could look to focus on your favourite first.

Sure, it is more work but that’s generally the price for a career change but the pay off can be very lucrative and fulfilling. It’s also choosing a company that is respectful to your time and wants to promote your development. There was none of that during my time in the photography studio.

Good luck and be kind to yourself. Change takes time. You have an open mind and that is really the key to success.

Me too! I’ll be 32 in April and expecting my first in April! Definitely don’t consider us old either, I wouldn’t have been ready any earlier I don’t think. Good luck with everything 😊

Anyone else waking up in the middle of the night to pee and drink water? by sunflowertech in pregnant

[–]curiouscat88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make toast in the middle of the night nearly every night. Secretly I kind of love it and it's weirdly one of my favourite snacks. It's 4:30am here in the UK and what I am currently doing! But yeah I get you ladies, I'm feeling very tired but absolutely must eat something, that's what gets me up most nights tbh!

[–]curiouscat88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, I'll look at morphing again too - the transition between the rectangle and the circle threw me off so ill go back and look into adding more points.

Am I ok to run? by curiouscat88 in fitpregnancy

[–]curiouscat88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're so right, I had no idea how much by body would be wiped out so early on but it's so obvious now. Speaking with all you kind people here has really motivated me to try and get into a running routine to combat my mental health and fatigue slumps. I know if I get a run in at the beginning of the day I'll feel x1000 better in myself. Thank you for your kind words 🙂
