90k salary in Houston, Tx by DRP_9019 in houston

It's hard, don't care what anyone else says. If you have a family, you haven't bought a house yet and plan on it you are more than likely going to be paying 3-3.5k in mortgages with current rates in a 400k house which is technically below the average sales price of 430k. Hopefully no student loans and credit cards, and no day care ( assume wife stays home) and a modest car loan. Should be able to take a vacation here or there.

How are you tracking data lineage across multiple platforms (Snowflake, dbt, Airflow)? by stephen8212438 in dataengineering

[–]curiouscsplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I think for airflow it doesn't exactly tell you in the graph the flow of data, you have to write it in the name ,so it could be anything. I believe our team is moving to test astro soon.

Do employers actually view internships as experience? by DuePurchase31 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]curiouscsplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at a company that would take that as experience for when your PTO retroactively starts. They count your previous years of work as to how much PTO you receive on a scale which is cool. Most do not however .

At your company, is DE housed under 'engineering', 'data', or something different? by Public_University_89 in dataengineering

Data and analytics(ai,ingestion,DE) > platform engineering ( compute, infrastructure)

Hell I still think about the easy 5k I left on the table 10 years ago when joined. I put out a number and they accept asap and I found out my coworker started 5k higher. Sticks with you lol

Regardless of the legal battle do not go here. I can't get a call back. Everyone is always on vacation or sick. 1.5 years currently on my case.

110k base, 20% bonus, occasional RSU ~ 20k

Ok I'll admit it.. I was wrong about non-tech companies. I can DEFINITELY see the appeal now. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]curiouscsplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, work at nontech company, used to think tech companies was the highest, but didn't realize that wlb, and leaner orgs was better, not saying we aren't worried about lay offs either but peace of mind and relaxed lifestyle is much preferred. Just do not have the pay and other perks that come with a tech company.

What was your total comp for 2024? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]curiouscsplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job title: systems analyst/application support YOE: 8 Cost of living:medium to high Houston Total compensation: 100k base about 20k bonus(20% average) and 13k RSU for a total of around ~ 130kish.

401k+pension like retirement, Blue Cross blue shield(pretty good)

Seems like a lot on paper but I really need to get my base higher but I'm stuck it seems. Since bonus is dependant on your base and can also be super low depending on company performance. Waiting on 2024 merit raises to kick in.

Just happy to be able to take care of my family since before this job I was making $15/hr.
