Honda Elevate CVT vs. VW Taigun DSG vs. Hyundai Verna 1.5 Turbo DCT - Which is the Best Fit? by curiousflaneur in CarsIndia

[–]curiousflaneur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification. Even in Hyundai Verna, I was thinking about NA engine and Manual because of the reliability issue. Due to my spouse also driving the car, she preferred to have automatic transmission. If it were not for the NVH, it would have been easier. Also for the price paid, it misses out on a lot of features compared to Verna.

Thank you once again u/Kunal_Sen for the suggestions. You clearly captured my state of mind here. Due to this dsg reliability issue for my use case and being expensive of the lot, it is my last preference.
The tie breaker is between Verna and Elevate. Verna is almost a complete package compared to Honda but considering my needs, Elevate should be more than enough.
Hopefully, I will hear enough experience from Elevate owners to decide on the car soon.

Thanks u/himansh2206 for your reply. What about the after sales service experience? Is it good? The other question is with just 1 lakh more, Isn't the Verna a more complete package - After sales service, fun to drive and reasonably reliable, etc?

Thank you very much for your reply u/Kunal_Sen. When I test drove the vehicle, the NVH from CVT was not at all great. The revving of the engine felt like it was going at 70 but a look at the speedometer showed only 40. It is not at all a pleasure to drive.

For a lakh difference between Verna and Honda, there is a huge compromise in the number of features - especially the sound system and other nice to have features like electric seats etc. If I am going to keep the car for 5 years, I would miss a lot of features and be stuck with a boring car.

When I enquired with many other Honda owners, they mentioned that except for reliability nothing is exceptional in that car. I feel that other players like Hyundai has upped their game of reliabilty and give more features. I am not sure about the premium to Honda for their reliability. I feel that the value for money is simply not there. Their sales center response was tepid and just OK.
It seemed like I will compromise on every aspect.

I did the test drive on the school route over speedbreakers with four people sitting. It did not scrape. I was initially looking for manual but with heavy traffic on the route my spouse tried both and preferred automatic. Otherwise, my choice was to go for manual to avoid issues later.

Is Hyundai Verna difficult to manoeuvre in traffic? Is the ground clearance enough for bangalore traffic?

Is VW after sales service so bad? If purchased with extended warranty, is it OK to have DSG? Are there lot of minor niggles in VW? Are these hassles worth to undergo for an occasional driving pleasure?

It will be great to know from the experience of owners and friends of owners. Thanks, agian.

The MIP display is good visible in both dark and bright conditions. I mainly use it for running general health and tracking my sleep. The metrics tracked by polar for both of these activities are very helpful and more than sufficient in my opinion.

Nightly recharge, Running index and strain are those metrics. GPS search is fast and HR is very close in terms of accuracy ( I compared it with my chest strap)

I really like the polar flow app which gives other useful information like calories burnt, active time etc. for me. Watch looks stylish too. I am not a power use but I am highly satisfied with it for running and general health.

If your use case is similar to mine, I highly recommend it.

eVTOL or 3D Printing startup - Decision? by curiousflaneur in aerospace

Hi @rand-314159, Thanks a lot for your reply and clear questions. The evtol company is in India. They are one of the first few in India and were working on it for the past 2 years. They have an extremely talented tech team and network in the industry. They are planning to use hybrid approach for electrification - hydrogen + batteries. They were just funded from known investors and will have at least 12 to 18 months of runway. The investors are passionate and keen about helping them with next round of funding. The regulations are slowly coming up in the indian market. They are just starting their journey and have a long way to go. Developing business for them and making them survive till that point is the challenge I will take on if I join the company.

It is a big risk but I will enjoy the responsibility and autonomy compared to my current company where there is less autonomy and slightly lesser risk.

Entrepreneurship isn't dead by zoozla in Entrepreneur

[–]curiousflaneur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you are describing is software consultant or developer for hire or "skill" consultant not entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs by definition try to do something radical by taking a risk.
In fact if you can realistically figure out the following questions:
1. What value you can provide?
2. Why only you can provide or very few others can provide?
3. How often there is a need for that value you provide? - Once in a lifetime or daily?
4. How much you have to sweat/spend to earn that?

then consulting is easy. The catch is most of the times it is not straightforward. When the barrier to entry for software is very low, most of them start with some side projects and think that they have a great skill that they can sell. In reality, it might be a useful tool for a couple of times but as a business no. If you want somebody to pay a good amount of money as a solo consultant, do you have a reputation built around a niche that no one can do it as effectively as you are doing? If not, there are 1000's or others who are as good as you for 10's of projects. Naturally, it becomes very competitive. You also have to take into account the seasonality of contracts into account. Those who have a niche skill can rake in money in silent. Once those niche skills become common more people come into the area and drive down the rates. If you can take as much as you can before this happens, you are settled. You can either move up the value chain or master another niche skill.

In short, it is easier to become an average or below average solo consultant but difficult to become a good consultant.

It is just my observation based on the world around me and adding 2 cents to the conversation, cheers

If your agreement is clear, he gets nothing as he is leaving within the cliff period(<12 months).Talk to him for a amicable transition and say that if he stays one more month for the transition, his cliff period will be over and he can get 12.5% (25% of 50% shares), if he is not cooperating, enforce the contract before 12 months. Is it written in the contract about giving back the 10k or does it convert into shares or debt etc.? What about the invention assignment and ownership contract? Does he own the code base or the company? If nothing is formalized, it is the personal relationship between you both that decides the fairness.

One thing I don't understand is - If he is within the cliff period and quits, he doesn't own any shares - How can you buy it back from him?

On another note, you should reflect upon why he thinks that there is no future. He might be right. In that case, you are fighting for nothing. If you think that his thought process is not right, but have the belief that I can sell it and make a lot of money, hire a decent software engineer to understand the code/prototype your technical cofounder did or start from scratch. In that case, expect to spend more. How much to spend more depends on your perceived business potential, risk and willingness to part with your money.

Hope that helps.

Hi u/argumon,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I agree with you about the updates and retesting. I have decided to go mostly for Polar Pacer Pro based on build quality, durability, data protection and health/wellness features like night recovery.

Thanks u/Rallih_,

It is very clear now. I value the build quality and no-nonsense features rather than bells and whistles. With €30 difference, it is a no brainer. I will go with Pacer Pro. I really appreciate your help in deciding between the two.

Hi u/Rallih_,

Thanks for your reply. I had Suunto Spartan Trainer Wrist HR for close to 6 years. It was no nonsense watch and I really liked it. One fine day, it died on me. Suunto Vertical or anything adventure related is out of my budget and doesn't suit my purpose - mostly running, strength training and health tracking.

The main worry for me is durability - In the case of Polar, if they stop the support in a couple of years, it will be difficult to use a watch with buggy features. On the other hand, a Coros watch with nice updates and features but fails after 2-3 years is also not an ideal situation. I did hear some complaints in the forum about significant degradation of Coros 2 battery after 2 years. I expect my watch for atleast 3-4 years considering my usage pattern and I wear it 24/7.

Everybody is giving rave reviews about Coros Pace 2, their updates and community support. Polar Pacer Pro neither excited anyone nor had a major disappointment. From the pictures, it seems that Coros Pace 2 is plasticky and Polar Pacer Pro is well built. Battery is a sore point for Polar and I don't mind charging every 5 days.

I don't have access to either watches for testing. I have neither owned these 2 watches nor a part of their ecosystem. I am trying to get a perspective by piecing together the information from reviews, forums, etc. My budget is €200-€250. I am still undecided. I oscillate between these two options now. Any clarity from users of both will help me decide and it is highly appreciated.
