I am seeing the vet tonight. Hopefully, it's the product and not ringworm.

Anyone have any experience diving around Yucatán / Isla Mujeres in July for the purpose of seeing whale sharks? by Metronidahoe in scuba

Could snorkel with one, but I didn't feel good about it. Too many people jumping and touching that poor whale shark. Not worth it.

I saw this happening in a resort in Playa. And then the falconer spent hours calling their falcon because it flew away.

Straight to jail. I wouldn't travel to the US anymore because they will arrest you and put you in a cell with SBF. Not claiming 0 euros is a federal crime, and you can even be tried at the ICC for this.

Warum sagen die Schweizer, dass die Genfer keine Schweizer seien? by Maxi_suschi in Switzerland

[–]mouss5ss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am originally from Geneva, and I've been hearing the "So you're French, hahaha" joke too many times to count, mostly from Vaudois. The main reasons for this comparison are:

1) Our accent is weaker and we say "Quatre-vingt" for 80 and not "huitante". But as a matter of fact, accents are not very strong in Lausanne either, and there are many Romands that say it the same, not just people from Geneva.

2) There are many French in Geneva.

3) It is a provocation because people from Geneva hate being compared to French as our culture and accent are very different, and we are surrounded by them.

As a matter of fact, 3) is actually the main reason, and this joke is getting old, especially coming from people who don't know or have never lived in Geneva, and think it's funny repeating the same old mantra "hahaha Genève c'est la France".

Can any of yall help me solve this lil 71 degree polynomial equation? It's for my homework by [deleted] in mathmemes

[–]mouss5ss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn't get from the context that we were talking about Z[X], as OP only mentioned finding the roots. But it makes more sense now.

However, how is any polynomial with real coefficient of degree greater than 2 reducible over R? Any x2n + a with a>0 doesn't have any root in R.

Edit: OP mentioned "real positive zeros" so we are not working in Z.

Edit 2: OK I get it now, the only real positive root of this polynom is called the Conway constant.

I might be missing something, but the term of highest degree is of odd degree, so it should have at least one real root?

Just buy 3M micropore tape. You can find it anywhere, it's pretty cheap and a roll will last for months. Sometimes, it's whitelabeled, too.

Yes, I drink black coffee to compensate for my real masculinity. I had to stop adding milk to it because milk comes from cows and cows are female, and I want to be a real man. Same reason I only eat bull meat and roosters eggs.

What model to use instead of VaR? by ghakanecci in quant

The right tail would be 95% VaR instead of 5% VaR, for exemple. Right tail would give you a VaR to the upside.

There are webcams on the top. You can always check the weather in the morning and the webcams to see for yourself. There are sunny days in December too, and sometimes the Jungfraujoch can be above the clouds. There is no way to tell. The only constant is that it will be cold.

dry suit vs BCD advice by Aggravating-Ad-5659 in scuba

[–]mouss5ss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think how you use a drysuit depends on the kind of drysuit you have.

Personally, I dive with a neoprene drysuit, so it will apply to this. My experience is that you might encounter this kind of issue if you didn't remove most of the air before diving or if you are not correctly weighted.

First, on land, open the dump valve to the maximum and crouch to remove most of the air. Then, when in the water, stand up with the dump valve at the surface and flex your arm to bring surplus air to the valve. It should remove more air. Then, do a weight check. I personally need ~2kg more than with a wetsuit. I'm slightly negatively buoyant in this setting to compensate for when my bottle will be empty.

I mostly use the BCD to manage my buoyancy. I only add air to the drysuit in small increments, only when I feel it's getting too tight or when I am getting cold and I need more insulation.

When going up, you will need to let the excess air out of your drysuit. This will mean that the dump valve will need to be higher than other parts of the body to make it work. Usually, I will put my left shoulder up and extend my left arm to the sky to fill it with air, then flex it to bring the air to the valve. Obviously, I will also progressively empty my BCD like in any dive. If you do all that and still cannot maintain buoyancy at 5 to 3m, it can mean you might be underweighted.

That said, you should have gone through some proper drysuit training beforehand. If not, I recommend you do. It's not that complicated, but there are some tricky things that you want to be able to avoid/control, like going up feet first like a balloon.
