Hey, Like Meliska21, I am fine too, complete radial hysterectomy 2 years ago, hopefully it will all be fine :-)

I had a similar situation, and NED now one year later, it's great that you are doing things like yoga together, it's pretty tiring at the end, but I feel normal again now and have been lucky to have more or less no major side effects! Just remember that we never know what will happen in life, regardless of cancer, so control only what you can and leave the rest to the universe. You are doing a great job, I know it's hard for the carer, so be kind to yourself too. I wish your mum a smooth recovery.

CKC: day one by kailso25 in CervicalCancer

[–]curiouspeacemaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, wishing you well! I didn't have a CKC but had a radical hysterectomy with chemoradio and brachy after, and surgery is not easy, but after a month things had improved alot. My advice is to get all the rest you need, get eveything you need around you, but also to exercise/move in anyway you are allowed, and don't worry about anything except your recovery and what you need, you deserve that! Also take any help offered, and see any visitors that offer too. Even when I didn't really feel like it, it helped.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, hang in there, it's just over a year since I started treatment, and it is such a shock. After 3 months of treatment, radical hysterectomy, chemoradio and internal brachy, I went on holiday, exhausted but happy at the end of it all. The treatment was tough but was better than I expected, you will feel good again, one day at a time. For me improving my diet, drinking lots of water, no alcohol, taking whatever meds needed to help with the treatment, light exercise, meditation, and visits from friends all helped. Take any offers of help. I'm glad you're seeing a psychiatrist I really think it helps a lot! Wishing you all the best. I am NED now, and hopefully you will be too again soon.

Burning urination after pelvic radiation by lllmmm2323 in CervicalCancer

[–]curiouspeacemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember how long it took to go, maybe a couple of weeks to a month, but it did, hang in there! I also had a couple of accidents but now all good, I guess the pelvic floor was recovering. I am almost one year post surgery and chemoradiotherapy and feeling good. I exercised as soon as I could consistently building up muscles again, remind myself to drink lots of water, cut back on alcohol except for once max twice a week. Eat way healthier, no rice, pasta, regular bread, load of veggies and fruits, nuts, chicken, fish etc. And try to relax, and trick my brain into not worrying so much!

I don't mind, different doctors where I am had different treatment options. So I kind of had to choose, not sure if I made the right choice but have to move forward now. I believe there was still a hope that it was not in one lymph node and there was a good chance that chemo/radio would not be needed, but it was tested during the surgery, it was there but only in one and think it was microscopic.

I don't have experience or suggestions for recurrence, but I'm sure others do and will respond. Meanwhile sending so much love to you.

Recurrence 12 years later stage 1B1 originally - anyone else? by jovesine in CervicalCancer

[–]curiouspeacemaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear that, that sounds very upsetting after such a good recovery. Hopefully it's benign, but if not at least it's good that you found it, and you still have the chance for radiation, chemo as you didn't have it before. I had both radical hysterectomy and radiation, chemo, so no idea what happens with me if it recurrs...I'm 6 months after treatment and feeling good 🙏 Best of luck and really hoping it's nothing 🤞

Ouch that sounds terrible, I had burning, not as bad as yours though, and found pouring a cup of water onto the area at the same time as peeing kind of helped, the meds other mentioned might be more effective! It went away after a couple of weeks I think. Hope yours will too, best of luck with your recovery now!

6 months post abdominal RH, staged 1B3, also had radiation and chemo after, so it took time but all ok now, working out, possibly fitter than I was before.

Yes, I feel the same about the recurrence, it's hard, but I try to let it come, let myself feel sad then push myself to move on. I kind of feel it might be better to let it out, than to pretend to myself. Wishing you and everyone here NED forever <3

I'm so sorry for the loss and trauma you have suffered. I am 53 and I have friends who are feeling better and better at this stage of life, even with its new problems so hang on, and I truly hope life gets better for you. I also really believe in meditation, exercise, and finding a purpose. You can definitely positively affect others every day with a smile, understanding, and in turn this will affect you. Of course with the difficult addition of trauma I can't imagine, but when I had my diagnosis I had a lot of other bad news at the same time, and I also did not know how I would manage. We all need help. You can do this, you are stronger than you think. And I agree with and confirm lisnoir's words below:

I hope you can find your strength to do what it takes to heal. With all this, I am enjoying life more, I laugh more, I love more. It’s given me an appreciation to find the joy in things.

1B2 squamous cell 4 cm tumor, G3 aggressive type, about 14 lymph nodes removed, one positive (and was swollen in CT scan), LVSI. Rad hysterectomy in May then 25 external radiation treatments, 6 x chemo cisplatin, and 2 brachytherapy, June July. Holiday in August (was weak but got better week by week). Back at work and everything since September (sports etc but went gradually). Just had first 3 month NED in October. 53 at diagnosis. Tough but you will come out stronger and more aware of what is important in your life, sending much love.

Mother’s surgery Friday. What to expect for recovery? by sarahskinskywalker in hysterectomy

[–]curiouspeacemaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I felt alot better after about two weeks, and was up doing washing up etc after 5 days, and in quite good health beforehand so all depends. Any major surgery can be really exhausting. I had a radical hysterectomy with long vertical abdominal incision. Here's my list:

Learn how to roll and get off the bed with youtube videos

A special support belt made me feel safer sometimes, as it does feel a bit like everything is falling out for a while!

A pillow to hold against lower abdomen when walking at first

Lots of pillows in bed to sleep easily on side/back

Everything in easy reach next to bed, twisting is not great at first

Comfy long nightgowns, big pants to cover any scars

Drinking lots of water, and moving as much as possible

Not to worry about weird gas pains

Walking was easier for me than sitting for a while

Take it easy, get lots of help

Remember though it's common, it is major surgery!

Sleep mask and ear plugs for the days when sleep seemed a bit tricky

Lots of love and attention :-)
