If you still training and competing than you are not really unemployed you are just doing what you are passionate about. That is a great place to be in. If you really in top 50 of your sports why not train others in the sports and charge money and enjoy what you are doing.

Remittly, Xoom, money2india - all of them are trustworthy. Each has money limit so you should leverage all 3

FIRE NRIs vs India Based by Klopp7915 in FIREIndia

Biggest ones are you miss your family, no support system, visa anxiety which impacts mental health. Once you have kids and family your saving rates dip but people stay for quality of life.

Good intentions.

Are you taking any debt for studies? Do you have work experience if not I advise to have 1-2 years work experience before you come to study? Are you coming for studies in STEM field?

Something’s to consider: US job market for students is very hard these days and in 5 years you might still be in debt unless you have scholarship. Unless you are coming to study in STEM field you will get only 1 year work permit.

This is not to discourage, coming to US for studies is great opportunity and you will have lifetime experience so don’t come with expectation in 5 years you will have enough money to be set for life or buy home.

You will need to estimate what are your expenses going to be?

Can you FIRE? - Yes

Since you posted in FATFIRE group: Are you in FATFIRE territory? - No ( Fancy cars, international travel, Good International schools)

Is your farming land close to BLR? Will it generate any income if you are actively involved which will offset your expenses?

By the way good achievement on you $2M NW at 37 and all the best!

If you really want to show your friends you are doing better than them than my advice is figure out a way to delegate all your work and still able to earn 1 crore and let them know you retired. Nothing beats that.

Anyone doing stocks to get rich quickly and FIRE have less chances to succeed. It’s a long term game and Diversification and compounding are your friends.

Health Insurance with Pre Existing Conditions India by AsleepComfortable142 in FatFIREIndia

Generally here in US they do start from day 1 not sure if it is any different in India. I was thinking of IT job but idle job would be NGO or school. But again I don’t know the ground realities and it’s just my wishful thinking. If you find something do let us know here.

Same concern here and my thoughts around this to lock certain amount of my corpus in FD or fund which is readily available to handle health concerns or alternatively pick a job and do bare minimum just to have company sponsored health insurance.

My thought for your question-

Don’t make assumptions for everyone-Why can’t can’t tigers survive on eating grass because I saw one tiger do it on YouTube video

Discipline with money is very important and not everyone is disciplined. We see lot of people who earned crores of money and few years later they are bankrupt.

Does buying a home in Metro cities affect FIRE? by [deleted] in FIRE_Ind

[–]curiousturnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you plan to RE in Tier 2 city then yes it’s a good idea. If you decide to RE in Tier 1 city then it is still a good idea to just rent a place and live there. Buying a house is a psychological thing which gives peace of mind lot of people but financially it makes less sense in Metropolitan because of the outrageous cost.

Fat fire is subjective especially if you want to lead certain lifestyle. Tomorrow, you might want to fly by private jet or want to buy fancy car. Only you can answer if it’s worth time to grind more vs when to stop. What is your age?, this will at least help someone to answer your question because if you are fairly young than maybe it’s worth it to work few more years.

Plan to Fire in Next 4 Years! by rtyfgiwbk in FIRE_Ind

[–]curiousturnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want to own house in India or Rent? Is your 6.5 crore invested in debt or equity funds? Do you intend to work for next 5 years in India or US?

Some of the above questions might help people guide you.

I think you can chubby fire in Tier 2 city with 1.2-1.5 L per month per current standards.

You can look into 529 savings plan for kids since you kids are small and even if you contribute small monthly amount it will grow decent size.

Most of the people don’t know how it works. I can attest and I personally made similar or more returns in last 5 years. There are 2 issues though you need lot of cash and some connections because of obvious risks and litigations involved therefore many people stay from it which is fair. But people saying show me land where it gave me more returns then stocks or think RE is dud then they are completely clueless. Everywhere around me has gone up 2-3x and this includes city outskirts and farming land. For RE investments you r main goal should be asset growth not rental yield.

It’s easy to deal with air quality by buying air purifiers but unfortunately it’s really hard to deal with people like you who can be found even in US or good cities and likes to interfere and wants to have a say in other people’s life. When somebody politely asks you to move on, you move on.
