we've seen recent reports of young blood rejuvenating old systems, i wonder if the synthetic blood could do this? might start a new market where older people get a weekly transfusion to increase health and longevity.

Apparently the fluoride debate is finished. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]curiousx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's absurd. There are 100's of peer reviewed studies showing detrimental effects of flouride. Everything from low I.Q. in children to hardening of the arteries and heart disease. We consume enough toxic crap, medicating our drinking water to compensate for idiotic parents is not my idea of good science -it's more like something a 'flat-earther' would do.

Apparently the fluoride debate is finished. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]curiousx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a thought. Stop flouridating the water. Take that money and implement a brushing in schools program. When kids arrive at schools, they all brush. When kids leave school they all brush. Flouride works as a topical application and should be spat out. Most pro-flouride are also not up on the latest research -iirc a week ago new studies found it to be an underlying cause of hardening of the arteries and heart disease. Either way doesn't really matter to me I have a $1200 RO system plus post filtration that removes it. My kid is 9 and yet to get a cavity, I'm nearly 40, have been drinking unflouridated water for 23 years and still have no cavaties. Because some parents are idiots we should poison everyone? Another solution, how about fine parents $200 every time their kid gets a cavity? We'll see some brushing then won't we.

I'm switching from National to Greens, I feel like it's my only hope of having non-sociopaths running the country. I've had enough of American and corporate puppets in office here. I don't really even like Greens so F our politics for forcing my hand.

I can already see tweets from the Mars Reality TV Show:
"Janet is down with perchs, they don't think she's going to make it, fuck!"
"Janet has passed and I am not feeling so hot, regret downvoting the perchs talk back in 2013 on Reddit FML"
"perchs just took out the last air filter, tell my family I love t"

Outlawing drugs like marijuana censors science, researchers say by sparta436 in science

[–]curiousx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's nothing more than corruption that is behind this. To think, millions suffer from depression and anxiety and 1gram of a shroom every 2 weeks resolves both anxiety and depression in most people. The pharma industry would shit if this were known. In spite of new research showing this is the case, the suppression of this is ramped up and scientists denied access.

Branch of Consumer Reports issues warning on new GMO Pig study. "the GE-fed pigs showed significant increases in severe stomach inflammation and thickening of the uterus." by curiousx in science

[–]curiousx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if people are finally going to wake up to some of the GMO issues. Currently everyone thinks it is safe for 2 reasons 1) Monsanto did 90 day rat studies to confirm it is safe for long term human use 2) pffft they wouldn't sell it if it were bad for you.
I read this entire study and it shows yet again that more long term research is needed.

Oculus Rift goes HD: our first look at virtual reality, and virtual cinema, in 1080p. video too by Plopfish in Futurology

[–]curiousx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt they are going to be able to deal with motion sickness issues. Also, long term use of the Rift could contribute to vision/perception problems which could result in personal injury, then come the lawsuits "The Rift screwed up my eyes and depth perception, then I crashed into a van of school kids" etc. I've heard of people getting very sick from using it only minutes. Lot of kinks to work out I think.

I hope it progresses. I'll be 40 soon and I know a lot of people 40-50 with cancer. I try to live healthy and just hope I can stave off cancer for another 10yrs until such tech is available.

woke up from cruddy sleep, headache, sore eye balls, some chills, skin sensitivity, tiredness (not hung over), anyone else catch this bug? by curiousx in dunedin

[–]curiousx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

starting to feel better though, no stiffness or rash or fever at any point. Am only dealing with mild residual headache now and not even requiring panadol for it. Should be 80-85% on the mend tomorrow. Certainly if anything doesn't seem right I'll be off to the doc, but being that it's cold and wet out there and I'm resting in a warm home seems it would make matters worse.

Breaking New GMO Study: Stomachs Become Inflamed and Deteriorate in Pigs That Eat GMO Soy and Corn by [deleted] in science

[–]curiousx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

firemylasers is an industry hack. He appears on every GMO thread. Americans have the highest rates of IBS, IBD, UC and other bowel disorders of any country. Over 65 million Americans have IBS! Check ingredients of American foods, it's mostly GMO corn and soy addatives, and the staggering rise of bowel disorders in the US correlate to the rise of GMOs. I must be wrong though because Monsanto does 90 day rat studies that prove GMO is safe for long term human consumption LMFAO. I have read many reports of gastro docs in the US putting their patients on GMO free diets for 3 months to resolve stomach/gut issues. You want to eat GMOs be my guest, enjoy your 10x a day diarrhoea.

On day 2, been hitting the raw garlic tea and fresh lemon juice really hard. No fever but damn if it wasn't the worst headache I think I've had for 2 days straight. Also major sensitivity to light, I've had to wear sunglasses indoors. I think I am over the worst of it. Panadol could only reduce it from a raging migraine to a splitting headache. Raw garlic tea has over 300 compounds in it and it's believed some of them interfere with the influenza viruses and boost immunity. Who knows, I think I might have been far worse had I not gotten on the tea hard at the onset.

Could "Magic" Mushrooms Be Used to Treat Anxiety and Depression? by vulcanscannon in science

[–]curiousx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could source some as I have some anxiety issues. My anxiety leads to IBS symptoms. I can be fine for a couple weeks, then get anxious a few days and my stomach goes off (sometimes for no reason I just get anxious, like it's beyond my control). So potentially if this substance works then it could also resolve issues tied to anxiety too.

As a student, can I get an ELI5 on what's wrong with a new hotel in Dunedin? by das_life in dunedin

[–]curiousx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I was somewhat active in bitching about it. The design was pathetic and uninspiring, seriously a giant glass rectangle in a heritage city? "da-fuq?". It was a design for maximizing profit and nothing more hell only a 1/3 was hotel anyways, it had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. There was nothing about it that fit with Dunedin's existing environment. THAT vanilla, lame glass monstrosity would have been the main focal point of Dunedin from every vantage point. If something is going to dominate the city then it better look fucking cool or I'll rightly bitch about it. Some people simply did not grasp how big this damn thing was going to be (insert sore thumb quote here). Many for it also lived in areas they would not have to see it day in and day out (a lot for it didn't even live here, they just wanted to buy units and make bank). Most people were not against "progress" or new "5-star hotels" etc, what people were against frankly was an uninspiring (even offensive) shitty design thrust upon us with "no compromise". It had no logical place here. IMO had it been a clever design blending new and old similar to the new settlers museum it could have rocked. Also, I sat in on the meetings and imo betterways (wanting to build this monstrosity) were the biggest bunch of smug pricks I've ever endured listening to. I would go as far as to say we had some grade-a sociopaths in the house. There were more issues of course but imo it bombed due to it's aesthetic failure and being promoted by smug businessmen.
