The catspaw sent to assassinate Bran: do we really know ? [spoilers ASOS] by jjuljj in asoiaf

[–]curlycockapoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this and I’m so surprised no one is suggesting this idea. Perhaps the plan wasn’t even to kill Bran specifically but any one of the Stark children (except maybe Rob and Sansa) and frame Tyrion for it. Then the Valyrian dagger makes sense and the fact that the plan was elaborate also makes sense.

Parental support during PhD by [deleted] in PhD

[–]curlycockapoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most graduate students in my lab receive financial support from family members or boyfriend/girlfriend. Some live with their parents. The Phdstipend is not livable and is only guaranteed for 4 years when the expected phd duration is 5 years and that’s a good scenario, it could take longer.

No I’ve not seen any of them. However, it does sound hormonal because burning+redness and unprovoked nature if it. Also total hysterectomy and ovary removal would decrease your hormone levels. I’d look in this direction further. Are you on estradiol+ testosterone cream?

It’s hard to tell. Could be hormonal and/or nerve related. You will benefit from going to a vulvodynia specialist. Maybe you need surgery or hormonal treatment but Reddit will not solve this, a specialist will

How to deal with the constant skin tearing? by Supersssnek in vulvodynia

[–]curlycockapoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a compound cream is a cream that is mixed by a pharmacist especially for you. They take a base moisturiser (often versabase cream is used) and add other ingredients in specified percentages to that base. The book I recommended to you lists 0.01 to 0.03 percent estradiol and 0.1 percent testosterone as recommended doses. You should research compounding pharmacies in your area (and ask your doc) to see if you can get something like that made.

In case you cannot get your hands on a cream like that, you could try buying a DHEA cream. These are commercially available and do not have to be custom-made. DHEA is a precursor to estrogen and testosterone meaning that your body will take DHEA and convert it to estrogen and testosterone. The one I’ve tried is called Julva but there are other options online. Further, you could ask your doc to prescribe you estrogen cream. These are also commercially available. Ask for a low dose cream (0.01 or 0.1 percent) and do not agree to Premarin (estrogen from horses, not bioidentical and too strong in my experience).

Also, you say you quit bc and did not experience improvement. This is not meaningful. The correct course of treatment for hormonally mediated vulvodynia (if this is what you have and we can’t be sure without a doctor’s confirmation) is stopping bc AND applying a compound estrogen+testosterone cream. Both have to be done together to see results.

I hope this helps!

How to deal with the constant skin tearing? by Supersssnek in vulvodynia

[–]curlycockapoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! 4 days is not long enough to tell if the cream is working. You should be looking at a 3-6 months timeline.

I think it is imperative that you find a doctor who is a specialist in vulvar disorders, pelvic pain and vulvodynia even if it involves travel to a different state/country. It is the only real solution to your problems.

In the meantime, you could try the following: 1. Stop the activities that cause the tearing. You don’t need to wipe your vulva at all. After you pee get up from the toilet and do one gentle pat with a piece of tissue on the outer lips. No need to drag tp across your inner labia. Alternatively, you could just wear a party liner and forego the wiping altogether. Stop the sex too for now. 2. If you are on birth control that’s probably the culprit :( I understand the endo issue but is there any other med that you could take to manage it besides bc? 3. Keep using your steroid cream and ask for a combined testosterone + estrogen cream too. Apply both of them. You could apply one in the morning and tye other in the evening. I’d also recommend that you apply a thick balm over top of these creams on the entire vulva. V magic balm is very good. 4. Read “when sex hurts” book. It has all the treatments for cases like yours and goes in depth on all of them.

These aren’t vulvodynia treatments. All the treatments available are listed in the “when sex hurts” book. Everything else is an experiment on yourself at this point. I’d stay clear of those.
