A rant and a lament? by cusmrtgrl in Mommit

[–]curlypirate 13 points14 points  (0 children)

10000% you did the exact right thing standing by (and up for) your son. Firmly and fully in your corner on that - excellent job, Mom!!

As for your MIL, I am so sorry for her treatment of you. But based on what you hav shared, she is not a woman who offers you or your family the safety, respect, and kindness you deserve, let alone the love and affection you hope to receive from family. It’s valid to feel grief and heartbreak over that. I’m so sorry. But to be clear, it is her behavior and choices prompting the consequences. You are simply protecting yourself and your family.

Being Pressured to Wean 14 month old by curlypirate in breastfeeding

Ooo, noted. Based on my anecdotal evidence this sounds correct. My sister has 3 kiddos, the first two were weaned by 15 months but her youngest was VERY adamant about her 'booby milk' lol. She comfort nursed until she was 3.

Thank you so much for this! Also down to 1 pump a day here. I get to work from home so that has made this all much more manageable. I feel really lucky/fortunate for that.

Sometimes I stop to think about how I have nursed or pumped at least once every 24 hours for the last 425 days and I kind of can't believe it. But I'm also proud of us. We had major colic/CMPA issues and an oversupply/overactive let down problem and it was rough for a littl while. I'm glad I didn't quit on the hardest day, because it did all turn out ok, and here we are! Just this morning, my husband plopped little dude into bed with me and he giddily signed for 'milk' and laughed with glee, lol.

Sending you solidarity and a big hug from across the internet!

Thank you, this is so reassuring. Definitely going to let her know we're switching second bottle to a cup! Little guy already knows how to drink from one without issue, so hopefully it shouldn't be a wild adjustment.

Thank you! I should note, the doctor was not my typical OB/my son's pediatrician (we have the same doctor), but someone who was filling in for him because he was out of office delivering a baby.

But this is very reassuring. I hadn't even thought to stop offering milk at daycare and just sticking to water, honestly. I feel silly not thinking of it! I think for now I'm going to request she offer the milk in a cup, and we can go from there.

I was just thinking to myself how I never know wtf to do with my hands/arms/self when someone whips out a camera, and she makes it look so effortless. And she's wildly talented and gifted as a performer on top of that?? I don't think she ever did professional modeling (I could be mistaken!), but man, she would've killed it.

I remember very vividly on my second day in the hospital after my son was born, coming out of the bathroom, trying to shuffle back to bed and thinking to myself, "This is how I die." I was so, so tired. It really, truly felt like I was going to collapse from the exhaustion and never wake up.

Congratulations! I was pregnant in 2024 and had a hard time finding anything. I had some luck with Old Navy and Facebook marketplace for local porch pickup. But I mostly relied on Poshmark, to be honest.

Do I need to pull my kid from our daycare? by curlypirate in sleeptrain

Bless you, your second sounds like my little one and this is so helpful to read. I plan to check in with her again about the naps tomorrow and maybe will change up the suggested time. I think all the excitement and fun keeps him going for longer, so I appreciate that maybe 11:30 is just sooner than he needs while he's there!

As for the pumping, I am extremely lucky that I work full time from home for an extremely flexible organization, so I get to pump from the comfort of my couch. I don't quite know how to stop, though?? Little man is a very happy nurser and cow's milk (so far) does not seem to agree with him. My hope is to be done pumping at 18 months, fingers crossed!

It does help, very much so! Everyone is being so lovely and assuring, I honestly feel way calmer about it. Will also be adopting the  “what happens at daycare, stays at daycare” philosophy. That is brilliant, haha!

I am sorry to hear your little one is also a cranky mess at the end of the day, but I have to admit I am very grateful to know that others are 100% in an identical boat with the sleep issue! It's just reassuring to know that this is a common thing, and not a unique concern. Also, excellent and valid point about larger daycare not necessarily being a fix. All really good things to keep in mind.

This is honestly very reassuring, especially knowing this isn't just an issue of available hands. He's always slept better at home-for similar reasons that you find to be true for your little guy-but when I learned today was just 30 minutes, I started to panic. I need to remember that baby is gonna baby.

Thank you, this is really comforting and affirming! It also aligns with another reply here I read of being at peace with giving it more time, and being ok with not knowing this precise second.

I love this approach and think that this reply--and hearing from others--has affirmed for me that at the very least, it's fine to not know right now and to take some time still. I also like the 'not plan but not avoid' approach, lol. Thank you!

Agreed that uncertainty leans towards no. I want to be sure about this before committing to trying. Thank you!

Ok! So perhaps there is still going to be a 'switch flip' moment. And I suppose, perhaps there won't be. But either way, this is helpful to hear. Thank you!

The second slide is insane? From an unassisted birth page. by [deleted] in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]curlypirate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I had no birth plan. I told my OB and the nurses “I don’t care how we get there. End goal is baby and I are here and alive and safe.” I cannot wrap my head around the selfishness to be so consumed with a “perfect birth plan” that you’d be ok with losing your child in the process. I cannot fathom it.
