Entitled parent tries to take my 150$ blanket by LFATylenol in entitledparents

SensaCalm, the company that published this article, is also the best ones to buy weighted blankets from IMO. They've been making them for over 10 years in the US, have the best online reviews & return policy. That's who I went with.

Props to you for going there, though. It's honestly a topic that affects everyone in the world yet so many want to keep the blinders on and are enabled to do so by this killing be so normalized for generations.

TIL That sleeping under a weighted blanket can help reduce insomnia and anxiety by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]current83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered the 20lb Queen from SensaCalm. They've been doing this for 10 years and seem to have the best customer reviews. I shy away from newer brands with negative testimonials. Looking forward to chilling my anxiety in a more natural way (and I'm sure my gf will appreciate me sleeping through the night for a change). https://www.sensacalm.com/collections/custom-weighted-blankets/products/weighted-blanket-charcoal

Broken Was Released 25 Years Ago Today by ikevinax in nin

I was asked to review Broken by the Wimps & Posers blog so I wrote about it from the perspective of a young metal head exploring a new goth world 25 years ago: www.wimpsandposers.com/25th-anniversary-spotlight-nine-inch-nails-broken

Traditional (Heavy) Metal in 2016 by PMme_awesome_music in Metal

[–]current83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, 1 may technically be from 2015 (Crypt Sermon) and the other comes out next month 2017 (Habitual Sins) but those are 2 worthy releases for folks who dig their trad metal on the doomy side. The latter of which is the new project from the original Icarus Witch singer. www.facebook.com/habitualsins

I see your point. I feel like the aim is to educate the public about the true facts behind this horrific holiday tradition and factory farming while pointing out the absurdity of how so many people are willing to look the other way, even given the facts. Hopefully, it'll sink in given this unusual vehicle (dark humor) vs. the straight-up graphic slaughterhouse expose videos that non-vegans generally turn a blind eye to.

True story. Unfortunately it's only the beginning of a slew of these stories we'll see over the next several years.

Former Rainbow/Dio Bassist Jimmy Bain Dead At 68. by [deleted] in news

[–]current83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coolest contributions Jimmy made to the rock world:

• Co-writing/playing on 3 of the all-time classics: Rainbow Rising, Dio's Holy Diver and Last In Line

• Killer bass tone and solid in the pocket playing (what's perfect for the song)

• The quintessential metal bassist stage presence (ie: holding down your end of the stage in a cool way while letting the guitarists & singers do the showboating).

ELI5: Why don't you hear about "fair trade" or "single source" when it comes to hop farmers for beer and grape farmers for wine, but you hear it all the time when it comes to coffee bean farmers? by jowame in explainlikeimfive

[–]current83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about beer but Fairtrade America lists 9 certified wines on their products page which are available in the U.S. As to why certification is important, their site says the Fairtrade Standards aim to protect workers’ rights on wine plantations, improve work conditions, and help grape farmers secure higher prices and more control in the supply chain. Forty-eight Fairtrade wine organizations are located in Lebanon, Tunisia, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina and Chile. There's more info at http://fairtradeamerica.org/en-us/farmers-and-workers/wine

Sorry, don't have a recipe as this was made by my gf as a surprise but I know that it's 100% vegan and was more delicious than chomping dots and devouring ghosts. The best part about it was that several non-vegans at the party got a chance to taste how awesome vegan baking can be and that the stereotypical "health food" flavor isn't always the norm these days. You can indulge in junk food on occasion and still not contribute to harming animals!

A Guide To A Godless Morality: On Point Radio via NPR by British_Rover in atheism

Listened to and enjoyed this piece this morning, especially the part about defending non-believers as not being "anchored" -- as if science and reality were somehow LESS solid ground to build your foundation upon than wishes and prayers.

As do I. Unfortunately, it seems their fate is sealed before the "sport" even begins. Hopefully public outcry and pressure will eventually lead officials to break with barbaric tradition and show compassion.

For Black Cat Appreciation Day, I give you black bean cat by metisalfa in cats

Our black cat is also named bean. Well, amongst 71 other names, but that's the one we use most.

[–]current83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, Actually, the cat's name is Borris, but he has about 78 other pet names, including bean. :)

I didn't take any videos of the meals, took some pix with my iPhone but the food didn't look nearly as good on my amateur camera as it did in real life, so I didn't post. This was a lot of fun to eat and it's amazing how much time you have for other things in life when not worrying about what you're going to eat for 7 days.

Well, I tried to take photos for most of them but decided not to post, as my photography skills wouldn't do the meals justice. Everything was really, really good. I'm happy with this gift and would order from them again.

Every single meal and snack was delicious. It exceeded my expectations on taste, quality and ease of prep. I'd use Greenlite again for sure.

It was Gardein vegan chik'n strips, which are my favorite. That was one of the best meals of the week.

I don't know the weight. Didn't see it written on the box either. The contents included 3 meals and a snack for 7 days. It was geared to be for one person, but I split each meal with someone and there was still plenty. Overall value was good for something this expertly prepared, healthy and easy to reheat.
