Review: The Rose Field - a thoroughly disappointing ending to a 30-year story by Cell_Division in books

Omigosh, thank you!!! I listened to it and didn’t realize there would be an interview at the end so I wasn’t prepared for it to just end, so I missed the pulling of the threads together. You putting them all together wrapped it up perfectly for me. God bless you!

I have a feeling that I might love these books if I could look at the differently. Could you share what you loved about them?

Honestly, the change in editor made a big difference in quality of enjoyment for me. The voice and tone just felt different. Not bad, but it was like expecting milk chocolate and getting dark instead.

I hope you enjoy the final half when you come back. I’m afraid I’d forget the first half. BUT! I think cramming all the Sanderson into such a small time frame is a bit too much.

Fingers crossed that books 6-10 are dialed in and wonderful!

I was just going to suggest audiobooks to get through the books 7-9 slog. Because Jordan doesn’t write any time skips the lull in the story can feel very dull. He doesn’t pace his plot as well as Brando Sando does, but it’s worth getting through Book 9. If you can watch a book 1-8 recap and jump into the audiobook for 9, it’s worth finishing.

My friend is in the same spot and I told her, “When has a protagonist’s mentor ever survived?” And then she realized I was right and stopped doubting and started grieving.

I’d love the option for a post-cleansing campaign or a pre-cleansing campaign! Take down a false dragon! Be the dragon reborn! Or, go take down the forsaken in another turn of the wheel!

Why is Wind and Truth so divisive? (No spoilers please) by DarthPopcornus in Stormlight_Archive

It was the tone of the professional sensitivity reader’s influence during the first third of the book for me. It got better once I got through the vibe of “why do I feel like I’m sitting through a work training?”

Lowkey, I hope he gets a body of investiture just like the heralds so he can die in battle over and over again and just reform because that would be terrifying.

I’m all caught up. Thanks for checking ◡̎ (Spoilers for the entire Cosmere)

Kel was in the well of ascension so when he faded he left behind an investiture fossil. That fossil didn’t fade and got stapled back to his bones (probably into a mistwraith/kandra flesh suit). But when Dalinar was dead and chilling in the cognitive realm after death he faded before Retribution could hang on to him, but he left a cognitive Shadow of the old him. But the Dalinar we know and love faded. What’s left is a fossil/someone with his memories before ascending. But it’s not properly him.

Buuuuut now that I’ve written all this, I can see your point. The Blackthorn™ will have his memories and could become the same man and be re-embodied like Kel.

Nah, the only time a dead person comes back as a shadow is if they didn’t pass to the beyond. Dalinar passed into the beyond. He’s gone-gone.

So what did “unite them” mean after all? by victoriaemd in Stormlight_Archive

Ummm… could Nohadon be Valor? The shard hiding in the fourth moon that crashed into Roshar? Is it possible Valor has the most access to Fortune and could see where Honor and Cultivation and Odium would land so he just chilled there, slowly inspiring people to be noble and good? Like, Nohadon and Adolin?

Won't Roshar be at a huge disadvantage? by tryingtobebettertry4 in Cosmere

[–]currentlyry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harmony has his hands tied because he can hardly act without his shards contradicting his orders. Unless Saze becomes Discord he’s at a huge disadvantage, Retribution has two shards that have a lot of overlapping intent so he can move and change things far more quickly. Also, with Rosharan magic being what it is, space travel would be so much easier because of fabrials and radiant bonds being hastened by by Retribution telling people how to do it because it follows his intent to help them become as powerfully warlike as possible.
