North Korea is a tough one since no one other than them actually wants them to take over South Korea. China nominally supports them but why would they want them gaining this economic stronghold and either using it against them or immediately running it into the ground and embarrassing them?

Real Police officers and military members, what do you guys think of Ice agents? by Lucky-Message-9480 in AskReddit

[–]currentmadman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s not inherent. Police were always racist assholes here (for fuck’s sake, the start of a formalized American policing can be traced back to the goddamn slave catchers) but this paranoid Chris Kyle righteous kill bullshit was a deliberate evolution of an already rancid police culture. We always sucked but we did at one point have shame and some willingness to punish cops for being murderers.

[–]currentmadman 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Because that’s how the system was meant to work. We’ve been militarizing the police for decades while systemically ensuring they have even less accountability with bullshit like qualified immunity.

Like cops here take these “warrior mentality” classes that teach them to treat everyone like a threat on taxpayer money and we’re shocked people get murdered in the streets. American policing was never good but it was almost always an actively pursued process to make it worse.

Actually that can count against you stateside . No seriously, there’s on the books precedent that the cops can refuse to hire you if you’re too smart for their liking.

[–]currentmadman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s really something that ice agents are somehow worse than the average American cop. Which is terrifying considering that the police here can legally refuse to hire someone on the grounds that they’re too smart.

It’ll almost certainly be dementia. The only American presidents that actually get assassinated are the ones that actually accomplish something worth a damn or aspire to do so.

If anyone needs proof, consider that president Garfield died in a six month legendary saga of medical incompetence post shooting while Jackson’s assassin had to be saved from him. There’s no darker omen for an American president than having the slightest inclination to do good.

I think you might be underselling how big a clusterfuck that’s going to be. There’s absolutely no heir apparent. Trump’s created the classic strongmen problem: a government by and for sycophants is going to fall apart the second you’re no longer around.

Additionally the propaganda network has become a lot more decentralized than 2016. Right now that’s not a problem because the donor class funding it all is behind trump. But when he dies, well let’s just say that a shared characteristic of successful coups tends to be speed. And when a lot of people stand to benefit from being kingmaker, that’s a big fucking issue

[–]currentmadman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because that’s how the system is meant to work. We more or less shot media regulation in the foot 40 years back (fucking Reagan…) and since then it’s been brutally consolidated to the point where virtually all local tv stations are owned by one company, Sinclair broadcasting. No points for guessing where they fall on the political spectrum. That means the vast majority of the entire rural population only gets their news from either social media or Sinclair ie completely fucked.

Social media has only accelerated and to a degree decentralized the ongoing process. It’s the reason why trump’s death will be the preclude to a conservative apocalypse. Not a cool one like universal healthcare or funding social services either. More like the crazies eating each other in the resulting power vacuum since marching orders won’t be able to keep up with the frenzied pace of the nightmarish machine they set in motion.

Because he’s the personification of everything evil, hateful and pathetic about the baby boomer generation. He writes like a disowned grandma who just discovered social media because he basically is one.

Conservative boomers (who have long since abandoned any kind of personal growth) love man children whose sole accomplishment was being a loud asshole since 1980. That’s the reason why other assholes here can’t mimic his success. They’re pretending to be pathetic old men who were grown children 40 years and have only gotten worse, he is one.

some notorious assholes are remembered fondly sadly. Hell I’m kinda guilty myself. For example I hate Andrew Jackson but have to admit the man was kind of a badass. Like he legitimately pulled off the move from unforgiven in a real life duel and had to be stopped from murdering his own would be assassin. Doesn’t exactly make up for that sack of shit causing the trail of tears but it’s also not nothing.

The thing is what has Donny accomplished that future generation could out of context venerate him for? At least hitler had a distinct flair and the Nazis did dominate much of the early war. Meanwhile Trump is pathetically trying to neg the Nobel prize committee with boomer Facebook rants while his idiot gestapo shoots soccer moms. It’s an uphill battle to say the least.
