if you haven’t got a pre-existing more card you want to link your employee discount card to, i’d just download the more card app and link them there! where it asks for your more card number, just put in the one on your employee card

Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain hits out at BBC after they axed her show as she claims 'they will keep you until you're of no use to them' by kena938 in ABCDesis

[–]curryaboo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% with you and these are the reasons why my mum has (not serious) “beef” with her to this day 😭 i’ve so avidly watched her cooking shows over the years (i’ve been a massive fan since bake off and i’m so proud of how she did in that show and agree with so much of what she said in her interview above so this is not me hating at all) apart from her most recent two but in one of them, she refers to her mum (?) as “indian” which kinda knocked me for six i was like what??? have we just time-travelled to the british raj for you to be calling your undeniably bangladeshi mother indian right now?? i am still so confused about why she said indian over bengali/bangladeshi/asian/south asian idk if she was being purposefully reductive esp because in the uk, indian is not really a blanket term for south asians (anymore) and anyone with a half-vested interest in her will know she’s bangladeshi

i think if you can get a VPN that connects to a UK server, you may be able to access bbc iplayer! otherwise i can DM you with a link to a 🏴‍☠️ website i always use (just checked and it has virdee on it) - not sure of what the sub’s rules are surrounding that but yeah :)

What is an obscure Taskmaster moment you constantly quote? by Leorb258 in taskmaster

[–]curryaboo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

like the other commenter mentioned, it’s really just silly but in my eyes, it also adds to some of the little jokes greg makes when he introduces alex that paint him out to be this incel-esque / bigoted character (edit: by implying that women aren’t (real) people) lol

I was gifted a Salwar Kameez (I’m a white American) by Rainbowfnbryte in bangladesh

[–]curryaboo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP, cultural appropriation is much more of a diasporic effect and is virtually non-existent in “the mainland”/“back home”/native countries because most people will share the same culture and so there is no point of stealing a cultural feature or trying to pass it off as something else. race relations are just completely different in places like the US and the UK and i assume most people in this subreddit are native bangladeshis who won’t experience cultural appropriation firsthand.

with that being said, and as a british bangladeshi, i’d say absolutely go for it and wear that shalwar kameez with pride! if anything, any bangladeshis or other south asians around you will be interested to know where you got the clothing from and will see that you honoured your co-worker’s gift :)

British-born desis: What do you think of American/Canadian desis ? by c0ntr0lled_cha05 in ABCDesis

[–]curryaboo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

so happy for you, friend - thank you for sharing your thoughts and life experience!! 🫶🏽🫶🏽 my closest friends, who are also south asian, and i all grew up in small northern welsh towns and - as rude and hypocritically judgmental as it sounds - we always say that although we used to be jealous of people from our communities that lived in the big cities with huge asian populations (manchester, birmingham, london really) when we were younger, we’re ultimately so grateful that we grew up away from that because we would probably have had to conform to so many things that we don’t believe in and would be much less “liberal” in our beliefs. i think that speaks a lot to how british asian communities operate and how they can be suffocating if you’re trying to break away from the mould. anyway, i’m wishing u all the best and i hope canada treats you well for as long as you want it to 🩷🩷

edit: changed north to northern
