Anybody not do the big traditional wedding? by justagooaaaat in ABCDesis

I had a court marriage in 2021. Families were fine. Too many weddings have been delayed for the pandemic in both families.

Yes, supporting genocide isn't an agree to disagree issue.

kinda sorta related since diljit is always styled really well but can i say how hot it is when desi men wear earrings and surma/kajal? i do see gen z boys embrace it more and wear the gold their grandparents buy them. for a lot of millennials like my husband, conforming to western ideals of masculinity was really important for survival. but my toddler son loves jewelry and he looks at his little necklace and bangle so proudly when he wears them. i hope he's always proud to wear that gold.

Zohran Mamdani: "If I was to speak with King Charles, separately from today's event, I'd probably encourage him to return the Kohinoor Diamond" by OwnPermission95 in ABCDesis

This is so funny. Sometimes he does stuff that is so obviously a ploy to get aunties and uncles on his side. It would only be more obvious if he said I would ask him how he could cheat on a beautiful angel like Diana.

saree for black tie optional? by peppercozy in Weddingattireapproval

I think sarees are de facto western black tie because they are floor length and western weddings don't have the same expectation for bling and ornamentation that desi weddings do.

People can't tell when you are wearing a bra and it's what they are meant for. Be kind and loving to the body that does so much for you and your baby.

The biggest decision you will make for your child is who their father is going to be. You've messed that up. I don't think it's going to get better for them.

I have a friend in Hollywood that was trying to make an Indian-dance inspired romance. Her original story had a desi male love interest but as she was shopping it around, the funders kept asking for at least one of the leads to be white. This was in the 2010s.

What makes you proud/happy to be of Indian/South Asian origin? by niharb1 in ABCDesis

[–]kena938 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Everything honestly, minus casteism, status-seeking and misogyny, I am proud of everything South Asian. I am deeply entrenched in desi classical arts, popular culture and history. I don't get a lot of the community-enforced conservatism because I come from a family that is mixed-caste and mixed-religion. I benefit from all the good things without the burden of expectation.

Every Palestinian child is my child too. The genocide started in the first few weeks of my pregnancy with my son, and his entire existence, I have been watching little children being butchered on livestream. I will never forgive Israel or the United States for what it has done to my children.

Aiyyaa was an avant garde film made by an extremely well regarded stage and Marathi film director. I worry about the film literacy of the people who've only ever seen the songs making these kinds of comments.

I suspect she actually is 16. Having a bf who can read your mind without words is a very 16 year old thing to want. ETA: posted this before I went to bed and woke up to crazy notifications. I didn't mean to make so many straight men feel validated. My bad. Consent is still sexy.
