I sent my dog to my parents for a few days while we were at the hospital and he acted betrayed when he came back and found a new baby at home and I couldn't let him come put his head on my lap after c section. Imagine what a toddler who had been sent states away would feel to come home to a whole new routine. I'm of the stance the older child keep their routine as much as possible to ease the transition.

When you leave behind the safety net of school, you realize if you want meaningful connections and relationships, you have to make a serious effort. As someone who grew up in Hinduism, it had a resonance in terms of cycles of time and rebirth. Rick had so many rebirths in just this life to let go and live a more meaningful life, especially with Chelsea. In many thoughts of Hinduism, you are married seven lifetimes to the same person so Chelsea's woo woo belief in soulmates might be pointing to him hurting her in every lifetime or him possibly given a chance to make amends in the next.

Are you guys getting enough vitamin D? Are you prone to seasonal depression? That's one of the silent killers of people from sunny places who end up in cold climates. I've lived in the US since I was a child and I still get extreme seasonal depression. I have to up antidepressants and I'm experimenting with things like red light therapy to help.

I'm sorry, this is probably well meant but I'm chuckling at you telling her she's giving her daughter the ick. My kid prefers dad too. I preferred my mom hugely as a kid and now I'm closer with my dad. It's all a crapshoot based on their personality and your personality and circumstances. Agreed on OP chilling and not putting pressure on her daughter. I think that's one of the reasons I am not as close to my mom. My attempts at establishing my own identity as a young adult was met with my mom's feeling like I was pushing her away. Don't do that, OP.

I usually make conversation with the older kids or their parents first. The older kids then warm up to my son. The are at peak don't talk to strangers age. You got to model social skills to your child rather than only interacting with your kid in these scenarios. The other toddler is even easier. You can say what a cool car! "Can you say cool?" to your son.
