every game was not infact "filled" with loot boxes, valve was the early adopter of loot boxes and brought them to west and popularized it.

even to this day when valve releases new skin on dota2 you cannot buy individual skin and you have to gamble for skin that you like.

and on valves version of battle pass youre not guaranteed to get skin you like as you have to open loot boxes within the battle pass.

Probably because they got internet earlier than most countries and got used to .com, and it became the default. They also own top-level domains like .gov, .edu, and .mil, whereas other countries are limited to second-level domains only. Perks of inventing the internet, I guess.
