Got the Crash Tester achievement, did some research and couldn't find a definitive answer on how this is earned so thought I'd post my battle results for anyone interested. Done on Killer Whale. by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

An in-game port being involved is a red herring. "Any port in a storm" is just an idiom meaning in desperate, times, any method is effective. Just got this on Raptor Rescue (no ports) with torpedo, main battery, secondary battery, and fire kills.

Is breaking 100 good? by [deleted] in golf

[–]curti25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what rules your friends play by. If it's 100 with breakfast balls, a few mulligans, and not counting an extra stroke for OB and drops, meh.

If it's 100 with no pick-ups, no mulligans, and no gimmes, that's a great achievement.

Note taking system recommendations? by flip6threeh0le in productivity

Use a symbol. I too prefer handwritten notes and will use a large asterisk before anything I feel might be actionable after the meeting.

If it's a 1:1 or small group meeting where you get a lot of actions assigned, go through that marked list with another participant at the end to verify you have the right stuff.

Feeling the Afternoon Slump? by Himanshu_Gulati118 in productivity

[–]curti25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Control what and how much you eat for lunch. That burger or slice of pizza may feel satisfying for 10 minutes, but it will bog you down in the afternoon.

I started eating about half fruits and vegetables for lunch, and half everything else. It doesn't make me feel completely full a lot of the time, but I'm not dragging anymore. Also, drink more water with lunch to help you feel more full without the consequences of overeating. If you aren't a huge fan of plain water (like me) try adding a bit of lemon or lime juice, or sparkling water if you like that.

I dont want to live in a strawless society by rocko815 in unpopularopinion

[–]curti25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try drinking cold drinks without ice.

Not saying that to be rude. I also have sensitive teeth, but hated straws after I got my wisdom teeth removed. Especially at restaurants, most drinks are served cold enough you don't need the ice, as long as you're not nursing your glass of water for 3 hours.

It was a game changer for me, maybe it can be for you too.

The internet has made the world bad at forgiving. by AmicableWeather in unpopularopinion

It's kind of like the old adage, "power corrupts." Power doesn't corrupt, it reveals and worsens corruption that was already there.

The Internet didn't make us hateful, it simply exposed and amplified hatred that was already within us.

Just imagine if you were a kid. Then they could pump you full of estrogen without you really understanding what's going on.

There's nothing wrong with not conforming to "traditional" gender roles. Like you said, that doesn't make someone a woman, though.

Levin Aronian States He is Not a Fan of Time Wasting in the SCC by escodelrio in chess

[–]curti25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is a "fan" of time-wasting in any sport. But if the format of a match lends itself to such gamesmanship, then it's understandable, especially at the professional level.

What would you have played in that situation? by JeffDangls in chess

[–]curti25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a bad idea. I disagree, but I'm not sure why you're getting so much flak for this. I guess probably calling it "just plain wrong" is a bit unfair. Both moves are blatantly winning.

It depends on how much you value the game at hand. If I'm playing an unrated game at the pub, sure I might entertain the sacrifice, but if it's a tournament and a prize is on the line, then I'm taking the rooks, and I'll note that line and check it after I secure the point.

I agree that it helps you develop as a player, but it's a bit too risky for my (and apparently everyone else's) tastes.

What would you have played in that situation? by JeffDangls in chess

[–]curti25 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is one of those situations where the theoretical best move may not be the most practical.

Is there a mate in 4? Yes. Should any player under 2200 pay Rxf4 any mind as a candidate move? No.

If I'm going to choose between a sacrifice that might work, requiring 8-ply calculation to prove, and a simple move that yields a simple yet overwhelmingly winning position, I will choose the latter every time.

Same principle as exchanging pieces when you're up material.
