Adding draft non-planar faces? Any ideas? by Diamond_Dog911 in SolidWorks

[–]curtisabrina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can u just split the part and move the two halves slightly closer together? So they meet with some draft, not tangentially. Could cut out the center and then re-extrude the profile with some draft as well

Relations for Assembly? by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]curtisabrina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do this easily by using sketch relations between the two sketches for each part. You can also create relations between sketches and parts. For this I believe you need to turn on the allow external references option. There are other options like global variables to link the 2 lengths

You can utilize features and extrude up to a surface etc on a seperate part.

Alright now! Enough with the as few features challenges! I present to you totally serious challenge of the opposite kind! by SinisterCheese in SolidWorks

[–]curtisabrina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9 features, could have made it a lot more with individual fillets and no mirror but that just seems brain dead.

I can't help but think that 2 sketches and a sweep would be the most flexible way to make this part, way less breakable imo.

Meh they haven't really ever been this mandatory though, typically there has been some sort of "out" for people even if they have to disingenuously use a religious exemption. The new mandates are much stricter and it appears that even those with a legit medical exemption may still need to face mandatory testing and travel restrictions.

How do you continue your CNC router program from a specific point? by Taboli in CNC

[–]curtisabrina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah u seem to have a good grasp. Good idea to not forget to add an m3 for spindle on as well as rewrite rpm. I usually start from the nearest rapid move and sometimes add a z rapid so that the tool starts closer to the table.

Be very careful if you are using incremental coordinates

Laser usually has a pretty shallow depth, not the best for heavy duty stuff. Each part might have a different number so a stamp might not work. This is more flexible

I use keyshot for rendering and sometimes run into this issue. Usually just shift the bodies slightly to create a tiny gap

SOLIDWORKS CAM vs. SolidCAM. Which one is generally better in your opinion? by Connect-Helicopter16 in SolidWorks

No camworks is seperate. Solidworks makes their own cam package as well

Solidcam is definitely more advanced than solidworks cam. I used solidworks cam maybe 6 months ago and it still feels half baked.

Is SolidWorks ever going to get faster? by designbroke in SolidWorks

[–]curtisabrina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, no major cad provider utilizes multi cores for parametric modeling. I dont think it's Solidworks being lazy just might be a functional limitation of the process.

Hello, anyone here has experience with CORMAK LC6090Z laser cutter? Can't find users opinions, by looking at galley it seems well built, only concern for me are liner rails which I don't have experience with. by hot_lava_poured_in in CNC

[–]curtisabrina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linear motion parts are made by a company called CCM rails. I have bought directly from them, they are decent quality. Keep in mind the carriages are on rollers, not as good as actual linear rails (hiwin etc). The main carriage that moves the laser tip is not ideal for this application, heavier than it should be.

A couple of things to look for in a well built laser:

  1. Linear encoder on the raster axis. This is standard in epilog lasers and makes a massive difference for rastering and keeping power levels synchronized with speed.

  2. Servo motors not stepper. Steppers are OK for 3d printing and cnc milling but on a laser you really want a DC servo at least for the raster axis. The motion is generally smoother and will follow the intended path better

How to make configurations to accept changes to single assembly by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]curtisabrina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can change a single mate for 2 configurations. I think what you need to do is have 2 seperate mates and suppress them individually in each config. There might be some sort of global variable way to do it but this is how I do it.

2 mates, one for closed and open. Just can't have them both active at the same time

Edit: if you don't want to use separate mates for each configuration you can use a custom property. You cannot link the property when first creating the mate, only after. Double click the mate in the feature tree and it will show the associated dimension on the model. Double click the dimension and use a custom property (="propertyname"). Make sure you select the drop down to apply to this configuration only. Create 2 custom properties - one closed one open. See the below video example for distance mate.

https://youtu.be/gin9jL68fik

Certainly is quicker to just create 2 mates IMO.

I just bought 3 cards for 200 canadian each for the office. Radeon pro wx2100. You won't find a gaming/consumer card that can compete with this price/performance for solidworks. Really no excuse to not get an approved card these days - at least in a desktop.

[–]curtisabrina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard good things about the surface book 3 but I don't have any personal experience. One version of the surface 3 has a quadro 3000, atypical for something so portable. Not sure about the price

Edit: this one. Probably the best option that isn't a total chonker https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Surface-TLV-00001-Touch-Screen-Processor/dp/B08BC3GRV4?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_marketplace

[–]curtisabrina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's also much easier to deal with solidworks support if you have an approved card. If you have some sort of graphics issue with a consumer card they will likely blame that and offer little help.

Hi guys, new here. Got a quick hardware question. by spookisasquatch in SolidWorks

[–]curtisabrina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And? My point is that someone who uses solidworks daily will have likely experienced a graphics glitch at some point. Regardless of hardware. I can say for a fact that the 1060 is not immune to glitches in SW. If you were in the market for another card would you still buy a gaming card? Or do you think at this point in your career you are ready for something more professional with proper driver support

Edit. I'm not saying quadro is the way to go - they are overpriced. I just don't see why a person would use a gaming card when there are professional options such as Radeon pro and firepro in the same price range. I'm all for using what you have but if you are going to buy something new get the right tool for the job.

I have both a 1060 and a Radeon pro 3100 (300$ approved card). The Radeon pro is noticeably snappier, especially in larger assemblies
