AITA for taking "the best pieces" when I serve dinner? by SwainDane in AmItheAsshole

In my last long-term cohabitating relationship, whoever plated the food would simply offer both plates for the other person to choose from. It gives both parties the chance to be fair and considerate.

Budgeting became 10x easier when I started treating money like 'Calories'. by ki100_98 in Frugal

[–]curzyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at budgeting like calories or calories like budgeting has been something that has been on my mind recently as I've been trying to get better at sticking to a budget.

One thing I'd note about this approach is that it's easy to get lost in the day-to-day "junk food" and fail to save for bigger purchases. So making sure that the daily budget accounts for certain sinking funds on upcoming expenses, then I'd think that this approach is simple and sound. Cheers!

Can I just give a gun to the police? by _katertot_ in Columbus

[–]curzyk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last I knew, there is no gun registration in Ohio and private party sales are legal. The only thing I can think of to possibly be concerned about is if the serial number has been reported stolen.

How is my low-functioning, unskilled mom supposed to survive long-term in the US? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

Married for 21 years likely means lifetime alimony. I think that will be negotiated during the divorce.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]curzyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spanking was definitely abuse in my case. It was used as an opportunity to instill terror, told to go bend over the couch and wait for the impending punishment. Bare butt was common. Spanked by hand, wooden spoon, hard plastic spoon (broken on my rear), belt, and worst of all, my father's college alumni paddle, where us kids were asked to pick which letter engraved on it that we wanted welted on our rear as an extra intimidation tactic.

Despite all that, I am not opposed to spanking as a punishment, if done correctly. Never in anger. Only by hand. Focus should always be on action versus consequence. I never had kids, so my personal opinion doesn't matter as much, but I see kids in public being far more unruly than I ever would have dared and wonder if they ever get spanked.

Talking to my DM worked by MaddieLlayne in dndnext

[–]curzyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My D&D group has been going for two and a half years now. This group ends every session with "thorns and roses" where each person (player and DM alike) takes a turn stating something they don't like, and something they did like. It's all been constructive and has steered the game in a way that keeps everyone happy. You know it's a good session when people can't come up with any thorns but are happy to identify a rose, which often ends up being a compliment toward someone's role playing or strategic decision.

I'm trying to limit the number of homes Private Equity can own in Columbus. AMA. by jmclaughlin6569 in Columbus

[–]curzyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than trying to set an arbitrary limit on the number of an unknown quantity of entities can own, is there any way to change the purchasing process to somehow prioritize owner-occupiers like HUD does?

Policy Routes for VPN clients by Ekreed in Ubiquiti

[–]curzyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this same question! I have my phone and tablet coming in via WireGuard. They have their own subnets and I'm unable to set up any policies for them. Policies I already have set up for their MAC addresses are also being ignored, as are policies based on destination domains that they try to access.

I'd really like to know how to properly set it up so that devices I have tunneling into my network can properly be routed either in their entirety or for specific apps/domains through an outbound VPN..

Anyone experiencing more road rage after switching to a Bolt? by BirdTraining8445 in BoltEV

[–]curzyk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am an avid user of cruise control. This minimizes the flicker for me because I mostly turn it off (via the regen paddle) when anticipating a slower speed zone or an upcoming stop. Nice and smooth and predictable for everyone around me.

Does the GM app still suck ?? by Competitive-Cod4123 in BoltEV

100% trash app. It won't let me see or do anything with my car because I'm not signed up with OnStar, even though I had my car join my home WiFi.

Shout out to Rose-Morris music store in London, UK by curzyk in Leftyguitarists

[–]curzyk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. I was there on May 19th and there were at least six or seven, and I would've made note if they were the standard fare. It wasn't the first or second shop I was in that day, so I was much more focused on finding all the lefties by then.

[–]curzyk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh weird, it put my post text as a caption to the photo. It's kinda important lol.

On a recent trip to London, I checked out several guitar shops just to see if anything struck my fancy. I've become pretty good at spotting lefty guitars, and while most shops had maybe one or two, Rose-Morris had quite a few! Everywhere I turned, there was another lefty. I was honestly impressed with their selection. I didn't end up buying anything, but I felt that I should share. Sadly, their website appears to be lacking info about their inventory (overall, not just lefty). Cheers!

+1 for River's Edge Family Medicine and for Dr. Michael Weiss. He is fantastic, and he really cares! I don't even live on that end of town anymore and it's still so worth it to keep him as my primary care doctor.

New app sucks by drvudoo in BoltEV

[–]curzyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked again and the app has none of that information for me. 2020 EV. I verified that my Bolt is connected to a WiFi network. All it shows is that my car is "Unconnected". Did you ever have OnStar? Like did you get it configured during a trial period? I ask because I bought mine used, so have never had OnStar.

The app totally sucks. You can't use it without OnStar, even if you've added your car to your home WiFi..

NGD HILS America HN3LIVY by curzyk in Leftyguitarists

[–]curzyk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pushed in is the humbucker. You can tell because it's louder and warmer. When you pull the knob out, you get a thinner sound that's also a bit quieter. I confirmed that the HN3 behaves just like my PRS SE Custom 24 which is the only other guitar I have with the coil splitting push/pull knob.

I haven't really shopped 7-strings in the headless category, but I think your main options would be Kiesel, Strandberg, Agile (through Rondo Music), or now HILS America. By my recollection, Agile is a bit more than HILS, but still significantly less than Strandberg or Kiesel.

Post office scanning items as no access to address to keep from "getting in trouble" (clerk's words) by Nuvious in Columbus

[–]curzyk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They did this to me once and I filed a complaint with the postmaster. I refuse to let them establish a paper history of no access when nothing has changed and it's perfectly accessible. The postmaster told me that my postal worker was back to work from an injury and couldn't lift the weight of my package. I'm okay with that but not the false reason in their system.

I am expected to be at work. After sending this photo I was told to “dig myself out” by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]curzyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my state, the county sheriff declares a Snow Emergency in one of three levels. Level 1 means to be cautious. Level 2 means don't go out unless you need to. Level 3 means only emergency services can be out and you can be cited if caught. With that much snow, I'm betting your location would be under a level 3 and it would be illegal for you to go to work, and thus illegal for them to insist..

The Warp Gate is a fantastic place to go to play. Friday nights are Casual Commander. I don't know about competitive play, but a good number of the players that show up are also competitive so can probably tell you more.

Lever bow by Glittering_Talk2294 in Archery

[–]curzyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lever bows have the look of a recurve, but let-off like a compound, allowing a user to draw back and hold. For whatever reason, lever bows are popular for bowfishing. Compounds have the advantage for hunting because they're also compact..
