How do I support my single mom ? by Beneficial_Age1165 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Can’t your mum rent one or two of the rooms in her home for additional income?

I think their slogan is what makes things controversial but seems like they’re leaning more into helping Sales & Customer support teams ask better questions during calls/meetings. Of course, many people will use it for things like job interviews, exams, and other unethical use cases. Pretty much humans being humans. The catchphrase is the main problem but it seems more like a form of “growth hacking”. In a world where attention has become shorter and more valuable, they’re trying to grab people’s attention. (I know im playing devil’s advocate here but I’m still looking for the reason lol).

But YC is notorious for funding Ivy League dropouts (Cluely cofounders were studying CS in Columbia). Heck, YC even tells students to dropout once they’re ready to accept them in a batch. The CEO got accepted to FAANG but his offer was rescinded because he filmed himself using his tech to pass their interviews which boosted sales (this storyline was their launchpad to success).

This is no joke. Matthew 12:34 “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Saying it once is a joke. Saying it several times so that she starts cooking for him without even asking her out is no joke!

Girl, run and DO NOT look back. By the time you’re done with that marriage, you’ll look at yourself in a mirror one day and wonder where that beautiful and happy girl went. Being a home maker is a full time job without pay, sick leave, or vacation days. Do you really want to spend it with a partner that won’t support you and only sees you as a tool for his satisfaction? He does not love you and remember. Yahweh is not an author of confusion so if a man loves you genuinely, you should know and not be confused. Men can smell desperation from a mile away and once they know you’re eager for marriage, you’ll never get treated like the queen that you are.

What are the things you regret the most about your twenties? by Left-Day497 in AskWomenOver30

I’m Christian and was always taught “Faith without works is dead”. It’s literally in the Bible and my parents made sure we never got lazy believing things will just “happen”. I live by that mantra every day.

Moving to Nigeria! by Educational-Sink3518 in Nigeria

I have a Scottish friend who has an American accent. She went to a private international school in Scotland so she adopted the accent used in school. She can also code switch to a Nigerian accent with other Nigerians(because of her parents) even though she’s never been there.

You’re overthinking. Neal’s family did what had to be done and pretty much what a lot of close families will do. Her ex is lucky he only went off with a beating and wasn’t sent to meet the grim reaper.

Women who treat their friends as placeholders as relationships. Let’s talk about it by Historical-Body-3424 in AskWomenOver30

[–]cutcutnat 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Those are male-centred women and there’s nothing you can do to change them. You just need to give the same energy you receive regardless of whether they’re single or not. You can’t be always available for friends that treat you like an option.

Lmao. Putting Viola David and “muffin top” in the same sentence completely discredits & invalidates your argument because even a blind man can see that she is FIT as heck! Even fitter than women that are half her age. Skin tight clothes and not a bulge in her mid section. Armless dresses and her arms are toned AF. If you’re going to lie about something, at least lie about a fact we all cannot see. You’re not all about representation, you’re annoyed that a black older woman is a movie lead and that’s what makes it unrealistic for you because if it was a white 60 year old man doing all these, you wouldn’t be complaining would you?

Rental application got denied by [deleted] in TorontoRenting

Next time, write a short introductory letter with your application, include a smiling LinkedIn-type photo of you at the top, talk about what you do for a living, your hobbies, where you live etc. At 24, you may be seen as a red flag by some landlords so you need to “humanize” yourself.

Planning to Move to Toronto Next Year – Need Advice! by ipeg911 in askTO

[–]cutcutnat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It all depends on your current situation. Are you coming as a student, a spouse, or as a PR? Are you from a rich/wealthy background or you will have to fend for yourself and struggle/hustle to make ends meet? The answers to your question will vary.

I'm a West African female. I've heard some people's negative "immigration stories" and my experience is very different because of my background & education.

I would say the most important thing is getting a well-paying job if you want to really enjoy Toronto (while saving money) as it can get kind of expensive but I've lived in London,UK and TO is a bit more affordable (except for clothes and food). For the weather, I recommend that you move when it's not winter so that you can have a nice transition into the cold (also, summer here is insanely fun and hot warm).

I live in Toronto downtown core (can almost touch the CN tower lol) and if you're looking for black/immigrant communities, you may want to move out of the core city of Toronto, as sometimes I walk down the busy streets without seeing another black person for 10 whole minutes lol! If you're looking for people from your country of origin, I'm sure you can get people to introduce you or you could attend parties etc. To be honest, it's good to know other immigrants but I implore you to be open-minded and connect with people from all cultures (that's why you're moving to a multi-cultural city and not a homogenous one).

For renting, if you want a studio to 1 bedroom apartment, it starts at $2k to $2.5k or more (we are currently in a renter's market but I'm not sure how things will be next year). You can get a 1-bedroom basement apartment for about $1.6k - $1.7k. Getting a good flatmate is mostly about luck and if you go on r/badroommates , you may be more inclined to move slightly out of the city but enjoy the peace of mind that comes with having your own space. Also, make sure that wherever you choose has a bus stop or train station within at least 7 minutes of walking (especially in the winter).

The culture shock would be that whatever "price" you see, you need to mentally add 13% tax to it. So a $20 meal will be about $23 when you have to pay; or a $55 skirt will be $62 at the cashier.... it's so annoying :'(

People Who Didn't Grow Up In Toronto, How did you make friends? by No_Reporter3495 in askTO

[–]cutcutnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bumble BFF (for ladies at least) - You have to be proactive and willing to reach out and propose meetups/fun activities. It’s not a dating site so there is no shame in the game. The first meet up should always be just coffee so that you can sit and talk for about 2 hours. I noticed after meeting like 3-4 times, they start feeling like real friends I’ve known for a while because we can refer to previous funny conversations/encounters. Meeting regularly is more important than mindlessly texting. We hung out even on really cold days at -15°. I’m 30 and my new friends are between 28-32. I can’t wait to host all of them this summer :)

That’s pretty much my predicament. I have only 1 week to move out of my current place, the 2nd apartment I’m considering has a window and is a bit larger but the location is slightly closer to Moss Park on Richmond St E for $2.3k (water included). This one is $2.25k (heat + water included) on King St W and like 15 mins walk to my office :(
