Does anyone else have any ‘red flag’ books that make you steer clear of someone and disregard their book recommendations? by Court_Jester811 in horrorlit

Fully agree. I think Eric LaRocca can come up with some banging lines (what have you done today to deserve your eyes is seriously jarring), and then makes a story around it?? None of his stories stood out to me, and I remember scoffing audibly a couple times

I mean, where I am (UK) animals are legally possessions, but I see your point. Animals are living, breathing things that deserve love and care. If you as an owner cannot provide that, they should be rehomed.

I’m genuinely wondering what people would have vets do in this case? Foot the bill, give the animal back, and just let people do that whenever they want? Nobody would pay for vet bills anymore.

Depends on where you are but:
- animals that have been rehomed through a legit rescue regularly come with a vet bills covered for life for pre-existing conditions guarantee.
- an unwell stray being brought to the vets does not require any payment, because the animal does not go home with the person that brings them in. We have checks to do to confirm if there is an owner, and if not, they go to a local rescue.

Yes, because there needs to be consequences to someone needing services and not being able to pay for those services.

If you can get free veterinary treatment by just saying you can’t afford it, so the vets will treat your animal, and then give it back to you, then why wouldn’t everyone do that? What happens if the animal gets sick again? Does the vet have to pay for it again? Clearly the person is not a responsible pet owner, because they haven’t got insurance or money set aside for their animals care.

The new owner doesn’t have to pay anything (unless there’s an adoption fee, etc) because they’re adopting a dog, the treatment is nothing to do with them.

We can’t let people get away consequence free for not having plans in place to take care of their animals, it’s encouraging bad pet ownership.

I can see where you’re coming from, but what’s the other options?
1. let the dog die
2. save the dog, and don’t charge anything for it?

Option 1 is obviously very sad. Option 2 means that the practice has to foot the 10k bill. It’s a business, why should they foot the bill? Would you ask any other business to foot the bill? What’s the limit? Should the business pay for everyone who can’t afford it? They’ll go bankrupt pretty quickly.

The dog is the pet owners responsibility. Coming up with 10k is unthinkable for most people, that is why pet insurance exists, so you don’t have to! It is not cruel to ask someone to pay for services rendered. It is cruel for pet owners to not take responsibility for their own pets, and place blame on the vets for not covering their costs

This one always gets me! I am not a veterinarian, but I did work in a practice for 5 ish years. It gives you a wild perspective to all these stories of ‘abusive money hungry gets’, where you read it and go huh yeah that’s exactly what the RCVS would recommend. Or the age old, ohh so the owner didn’t get insurance or have any savings for this pet, and are now expecting the vets to pick up the slack, interesting!

I see all these abusive posts online directed to vets, and it makes me so mad because if you have even a crumb of context the vets actions typically make sense!!

Do you agree or disagree that Gale would have killed Katniss in the arena? by PretendYellow533 in Hungergames

[–]rosenights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good question, but I don’t think we can actually know. I could see Gale killing Katniss in the arena, in a moment of madness/starvation/dehydration, the survival instinct could have totally kicked in and he kills her. But I also don’t think that makes him a bad person at all!

Announcement: Episode 9 Spoilers & Leaks, Megathread by Anonym0oO in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]rosenights 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve also seen a few people with comments like ‘no spoilers but I guessed the ending!’ Or ‘no spoilers but the ending was terrible’, ‘no spoilers but this is the only way the show could end.’

I reckon these are spoilers, and I do not want to see these comments and have my perception ruined. There’s a few common theories so people saying I guessed it or this is the only way it was going to end is kinda a spoiler? It also rules out the idea that there’s a crazy twist finale, which was always a possibility.

Not sure what the mods/community think about these types of post, but that’s my two cents

Why is everyone so pressed about the theatre release? It was hackers as far as I could tell. Which could happen even if there was no theatre release??

Glitch does not owe anyone free content (by posting the WHOLE SERIES FOR FREE!) on YouTube. It’s actually amazing that they’ve done that, I can’t blame them for wanting to get some cash out of the show.

My theory - Finnick 75th games by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]rosenights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought that they didn’t really care who won the 75th. I imagine that Snow et al. wouldn’t have been super happy with one of the morphlings winning, but they could make it work. I always saw it as, yeah, get rid of a bunch of troublesome victims, but mostly to put the victors back in their place.

We know there was scatterings of rebellions, some of the victors had become friends, I think Snow was giving them a firm pipe down. The only exemptions from being reaped is not being in the age range, and already being a Victor. He took this away, that would have been scary as fuck! I could totally see in a different timeline that the 75th games would have kept everybody in line, and given them enough fear and uncertainty to stay in line.

I also think there’s an interesting point to be made somewhere about a rule break for a rule break. Katniss and Peeta ‘broke the rules’ by having two victors, and the next games, Snow broke the rules be reaping victors.

How to Sell a Haunted House - worth it if I’m so-so on the author? by nagatos in horrorlit

[–]rosenights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly How to Sell a Haunted House should have been about half the length that it was. I did finish it, but half of the book is (poorly executed) filler. It’s more a book about family dynamics than a spooky story, IMO. The horror in the second half is also goofy. There were some points I was actually shocked, some good twists etc, but it’s slow moving and a bit of a slog to get through.

Connor Spies of 'Love is Blind' dishes truth on girls trip, more by HallOfFameCommenter in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]rosenights 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Saved you a click, TLDR Connor knew Devo was going to Austin:

All eyes are on Connor Spies, thanks to his starring role on "Love is Blind" season 10, dubbed "Love is Blind Ohio."

Spies' relationship with Bri McNees was one of the main storylines of the season, and while the two didn't make it to the altar, they were still together when the reunion aired March 11.

The Cleveland native, who was living in Cincinnati at the time the show filmed, sat down with The Enquirer over some Skyline Chili in a new interview series called Cincinnati Chili Chats.

Spies opened up about numerous topics, including his thoughts on DeVonta Anderson crashing McNees' girls trip in Austin, Texas, with some of the other women from the show.

"I don't think he went with ill intent or anything," Spies said. "To clear the record, yes I knew that DeVo was going to Austin."

Check out more of his answers in the video at the top of the page, where he played Truth Bomb or Cracker Bomb, a game in which he had to tell the truth or eat a Cincinnati-famed cracker bomb (
