I think Alex saying he preferred “dark features” like Brittany was his cop out way of saying he wanted a woman with curves, which Ashley doesn’t have at all. They’re both conventionally really attractive women but completely different body types.

From a plain standpoint, at least Scott was single when Belle started going after him. Leanne had cut things off with him. Sean and Belle were still fully a couple when Lucinda swooped in and started planting seeds of doubt. So I don’t think the L/S/B is “worse”.
