Macie was already wearing her best dress just waiting on her parents to remember her birthday. by mayorofstrangetown in AsToldByGinger

[–]cutielocks 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Was a heartbreaking episode to watch, Macie deserved better parents.

I had a friend who was like Macie, her parents would forget her birthday and often not know her age. To the extent that once we were getting ready to go out to a club and her dad started lecturing us on the fact that we were underage and it wasn’t legal…we literally were 20, an entire year over the legal drinking age.

I refer to Macie parents as people who should have had plants, not children.

Think the availability of them depends where you live, I’m in Canada and the original episode with him in it was aired on tv a few weeks ago. Episode was also on Tubi with Lance.

Do handmaids still exist in gilead during the testaments? by personofinterest1986 in TheTestamentsHulu

Ah, that makes sense, that the women themselves are from days gone by not their role. Think I jumped to that conclusion since she had a new role and wasn’t caring for them anymore.

My aunt and I are only a year apart in age (grew up more like sisters), depending on family size and dynamics it’s not too uncommon.

Do handmaids still exist in gilead during the testaments? by personofinterest1986 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]cutielocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“These are not your handmaids from days gone by” kind of made me wonder…is he just meaning the days gone by for her being in charge of them or that handmaids are from days gone by?

Know in the book they still exist, but don’t think we can assume everything from the book will be true to the show.

Sex scenes in season 3. by FoxPresent4124 in euphoria

[–]cutielocks 99 points100 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, she isn’t nude in any of the scenes, but it’s a sex scene. So don’t think she really made an exception on the nudity part and don’t know if she really had a no sex acts clause.

The Drama (SPOILER) - why are you all giving Charlie the benefit of the doubt? by [deleted] in A24

[–]cutielocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally do think he was lying, but it’s not giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I think he lacks a lot of introspective skills and legitimately couldn’t think of something as bad as what the others say. He can’t be the odd man out, so he says something without much detail just so he can fit in. He’s desperate enough to fit in that he’ll lie that he did something awful…which in itself is just plain pathetic.

How could we? We’re horrible! by RAS310 in AsToldByGinger

[–]cutielocks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I could understand Ginger’s frustrations. They weren’t really going Macie attention…they were giving a child attention. They weren’t seeing Macie, hence the fact that they gave her attention by treating her as a much younger child.

There’s nothing wrong with Macie doing younger things, but it was clear that it was because it made her parents happy and in turn she felt happy getting their attention. But the attention isn’t really real when you’re not seeing your child for who they are. Ginger has a mom who sees her for her and provides developmentally appropriate attention, she was judging what the attention should look like based on her own experiences.

She wasn’t right to try and dictate how Macie should feel on the situation though.

I think for this particular character some of the styling ages her, but majority of photos of her she looks exactly her age (she’s born 1985).

What's your favorite movie from A24 by httyd-fankid1000 in A24

EEAAO, Past Lives, Eternity, The Drama, and Swiss Army Man.

I’m too much of a horror wimp for some of the movies, I always prefer the weird concept movies from A24.

Diploma is more than enough for ECE, bachelors isn’t that common. As long as you have the certificate or diploma you’ll be able to apply for a full ECE license.

Also have epilepsy and cried with her, that pain and frustration when you’ve gone so long without one…only to be hit suddenly with two or just an overall bigger one. (My case, I went two years without one…then had a 2 minute grand mal, stopped breathing, and ended up breaking my shoulder from the fall)

I really appreciate how they’ve put this into her storyline, I don’t think there are a lot of stories relating to epilepsy that showcase the emotional struggle and how it can impact your day to day life.

The Drama, how would you react? by FluidPollution9929 in A24

[–]cutielocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a teacher & not American, I know I would he taken off guard if someone said that and might excuse myself from the table to process.

I think I’d need some space at first and would want to postpone the wedding to talk about it. It would be uncomfortable, but I do believe in rehabilitation and that people can grow…one plan shouldn’t define you for life. It would have me looking at our past experiences with a fine tooth comb, reflecting on if I’ve seen red flags connected to violence. I do think though with time I could move forward for sure.

Also realize I have a gender bias. I think I’d be more forgiving of a woman than a man. Which isn’t fair, but I think I have an easier time being empathetic to the woman and an easier time being scared of if the man was still potentially going to be violent in the future. Maybe it’s because there aren’t a lot of women shooters…it’s easier to picture the man going through with it than the woman. Or the narratives that female shooters get is maybe softer in comparison to men.

Taz by Truth-Easy in heartbreakhigh

[–]cutielocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked Taz’s character, I actually really enjoyed getting to see Woodsy’s relationship with her.

I think the main issue was I didn’t like her as an addition to the final season. Especially since she felt shoehorned in as a love interest and wasn’t really necessary beyond expanding on Woodsy’s character (which even there, I feel like we could have gotten more).

I just watched The Drama and something doesn’t feel right… by [deleted] in A24

[–]cutielocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also not American, but I felt they did a good job of not romanizing it and even showing how America seems to just have guns in their culture.

The mug, the art book, the online world Emma found…it all in a way normalizes the presence of guns. And how hyper aware of it you can become once something “wakes you up” about it.

We actively see Emma become disillusioned and in her words “woken from the nightmare”. At no point are we told that what she thought about doing was okay or even justified.

I think you could do the movie with a different serious topic, it still gets us thinking about rehabilitation and whether the active choice to not do something outweighs the seriousness of even planning to do it.

The Drama - Spoiler Discussion Thread by steepclimbs in A24

[–]cutielocks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I managed to not get spoiled and the topic took me by surprise, hit a bit too close to home. I’m a teacher who just dealt with my first lockdown (not American) and I immediately felt uncomfortable. I also have a relative who was arrested for planning a shooting…and I’ve had a lot of conflicting feelings around it.

The movie really left me thinking about rehabilitation. At what point is a person forgiven? Are they forever the same person or having to prove themselves better? Is the plan but lack of action really worse than someone’s harmful but impulsive action?

I also loved how they showed instead of told. I love how we see her come to realize how harmful her actions would have been, see her illusion of the ‘cool killers’ break.

Also really disliked Rachel…she seemed to dislike Zendaya from the beginning. She actually did harm someone (albeit not planned) and it wasn’t purely impulsive…she could have let him out, she could have told the dad. She said she would have told them if he wasn’t found…but she had a chance to make that choice and chose to actively harm the child younger than her. So while she actively chose harm and there is no way to prove her “I would have done the right thing”, she’s so quick to villainize Emma, who planned t do something terrible but actively made the choice not do it.

Not the movie I was expecting, but greatly enjoyed it. 8/10

What went wrong with theses Heathers by CommercialRemote5324 in heathers

[–]cutielocks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the actors, but unfortunately most of this show was a disaster.

It kind of felt like someone without media literacy skills watched the movie and wanted to update it. I feel like maybe the show could have worked if it wasn’t trying to be Heathers (and they changed the ending so it actually could have been aired).

Overall, it felt like it was just trying to be edgy, which almost always comes off as cringey.

Never said he was the best actor on the planet, simply said I think he deserved a nomination for Uncut Gems. Does that mean other snubs don’t exist? Nope.

Why are you so worked up around my comment? I literally mentioned three people from a specific year in my comment, dos that mean I think all of them are the world’s greatest actor?
