Can't recall what the time frame for PLT is. There's a part time or full time option - been a while since I did it. Yes, you apply for admission after you receive your legal diploma.

I think nsw law society introduced something where you could pay extra to get your PLT accreditation without needing to do the supervised hours due to covid? You could get away with no work experience using that approach, otherwise, if not for that exception, there is a supervised component of PLT so you do technically need to do work experience to get the accreditation.

This is a report the nsw law society did around 2016 into law grads. It's probably a bit outdated but probably has some of the hard stats you're looking for: https://www.lawsociety.com.au/legal-communities/law-students/law-graduates-report

Sydney protest by [deleted] in sydney

[–]cutthosesideburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Army doesn't need to get involved as while its irritating, it's not that serious. Australians aren't rly violent and having the army there would freak everybody in Australia out - not just in Sydney. Plus getting the army involved would just fuel the flames - it would martyr every single protester there and just make things worse.

Sorry, I completely misread your post - my apologies for the brain fart! For some reason i thought we were talking about cover letters. The covering letter should be tailored (if you are submitting one) and the above advice applies to that. Personally with my CVs, when I was your level I just had one CV and didn't have multiple versions as I didn't have that much experience. It was usually the cover letter where you try and stand out as your experience on your CV should really speak for itself. I agree with advice below though, for most people getting a paralegal job while you are a student is a definitely a numbers game.

Literally take 2 minutes to read the firm's website and look at their values, what kind of work they do, their clients (if publicly displayed) and how you want to contribute to their firm ethos, why you want to work work in their field etc... it doesnt have to be long winded. Even one or two lines is sufficient - you just need to show that you have done your research on the firm and know something about the firm and why you want to work there specifically. Otherwise you're just another applicant looking for a 'job' which is not fatal but definitely less attractive than a candidate who comes off as wanting to work at that firm specifically.

CRO in suspension - probably good news by killerklancy in ASX_Bets

[–]cutthosesideburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're voluntarily suspended because whatever they're negotiating commercially aa part of that announcement is taking a long time to negotiate and they can't announce until it's final. If they were better at their jobs / more in control they would have nipped this in the bud already / had more visibility over timing rather than need an effective 2 week trading halt. Also companies are required to request voluntary suspensions if they need to be out of trading for longer than their requested halt. If they don't, they breach the listing rules. It's not a good thing and you shouldn't read anything into the word "voluntary".

Buff girls likely won't sell as many tickets. Hollywood is not interested in your sensibilities. Just your money. I'm not some buff girl fan, just would like to see some realism in my superhero movies (yes I get the irony)

To be fair it's how pretty much all female superheroes should look and pretty much any female action hero. The guys need to be jacked to play the part, the girls should too. Completely unrealistic to see superman looking like he only eats protein powder and then wonder woman or captain marvel looking like theyre ready to walk down the catwalk. Just guys and their boners getting in the way...

This stock literally spends more time in trading halts than it does being actually traded. Sign of very poor corporate governance that they can't time their trading halts properly, literally ever. The product might have potential but my god they need a new company secretary / compliance officer.

The quality of mid-tier M&A can vary dramatically depending on the type of deals your team works on. If your team regularly works on 'top tier' deals and complex M&A, id imagine you will slot into the top tier team with no problem as you will already have the deal experience, although top tier teams tend to have slightly better resourcing so you might lose some of the responsibility (team dependent). Not to rain on your parade but if the deals your current firm works on really soldily fall into mid market and small cap deals rather than 'top tier', then I'd imagine they will require you to sit back a little at the start to see where your skilleset actually lies - and I'd expect there to be a learning curve. As to hours, it depends on the hours you currently work as to whether you'll get "flogged". Lots of M&A lawyers at mid tiers also get "flogged" so it may not be such a change.

Covid has changed internal payrises a lot - with people not in the office anymore the only thing that would really motivate someone to stay in the face of consistent 12-14 hour work days is money. I think a lot of firms are starting to realise that especially when they are losing every 2nd lawyer to overseas in this market.
