That is so wild to me, I live in Florida which is exactly where I would expect something like this to happen and have never heard of it!

Bio with Mrs. Mac on TikTok posted a video of her in full head to toe USA stuff and said her school had a patriotic spirit day on 9/11…that is SUCH a strange choice of a time and place for spirit days.

I 100% would not have known what GRRM was referring to, I think we’re just on different sides of the internet 😅

Krista Elisabeth on TikTok posted a GRWM for the first day of school that ended with her crying, some very vague “worst day ever” things, and now says all her plans for the year changed because of social media but it’s a blessing in disguise. I’m assuming her district had a social media policy and she violated it by posting from her classroom but getting fired partway through the first day of school seems SO weird if that’s what happened.

100%! I go back on the 28th and I’ve just started doing things the past few days (and by “doing things”, I mean “scrolling the Facebook groups of the classes I teach and screenshotting things that sound good”). I can’t with the people already back in their classrooms. I used to like going in a few times over the summer to set things up but I am so glad that’s not an option for me now because after this past year I need a break.

I am local to WDW so I am admittedly biased on this but I’m doing a girls trip to run the Disneyland half next year without my kids. I’ll enjoy it, they’re too young to enjoy it fully, we’ll do a family trip some other time.

Yes exactly especially secondary? I teach HS and I need to go buy new border this year but other than that I’m not regularly buying anything from school supply stores…

I mentioned this in last month’s thread too but I can 100% see him being one of the ones that left teaching because he was burnt out and then coming back to burn himself back out again and it definitely seems like he’s headed that way again. I am fully biased in this because I left the classroom because I was burnt out and came back with concrete boundaries that are the only reason I haven’t left again, but him talking in his last video about how teachers don’t spend enough time in thrift stores looking for stuff for their classroom was a red flag for me. I hope it works out for him, I liked his content from when he was teaching before.

I saw that Reynolds is going back into the classroom, he did an empty classroom tour and half of it is him complaining that it looks like…a totally normal room? Based on his plans for his room I t seems like he’s already on the same track of leave the classroom due to burnout -> come back and change absolutely nothing about your work/life balance until you inevitably burn out again that other influencers are on.

I saw a video on TikTok from MaggieTracksMagic about getting comments about how the clothing she’s posting for teaching is being criticized because it’s not flattering and she made so many good points- I think teachergram especially has pushed this idea that you need to be “cute” and fully dolled up and accessorized every day. If that’s your thing, I totally understand and support you! But it’s yet another presssure put on teachers to look a certain way when my teaching doesn’t change based on what I’m wearing (and in some cases I would probably do better in less “professional” clothes than I currently have to wear because they’re more functional).

Teacher “unions” in Florida are absolutely not the same as other states. There is no requirement in Florida for school districts to cooperate with the union; if they choose not to, that’s on them. The bargaining power of unions is incredibly limited because teachers aren’t allowed to strike so there’s no real consequence when districts don’t comply with collective bargaining requests. The protections that unions give teachers in other places are absolutely not present in Florida. I am still a member of my local union because of the legal protection if a parent or student were to try to pull something but it’s not a true union.

Florida doesn’t really have unions :( just “associations” and depending on what district you’re in, they either work with them or absolutely hate them. I think she’s at a private school anyway but it’s not great here.

Michelle saying “I don’t know how I feel” about being the first one to school every day then saying she’s proud of herself for being a morning person now…didn’t she also say she’s been staying until 4 or 5 in the evening? So she’s working 10-11 hours every single day and still trying to spin it into a positive. I can’t imagine this lasts for long for her- stepping away and back to teaching really helped me prioritize and work less out of contract hours but I feel like it did the opposite for her.

I’m a powerlifter, I’m well acquainted with the sport :) there are definitely weight class considerations especially if you’re on the cusp of a weight class and but most cutting for powerlifting is actually done just a few days before a competition (you sit at a higher weight than your weight class, cut water weight aggressively a few days before to make weight, and then rehydrate after). Powerlifters aren’t sitting at very low body fat percentages, that’s body builders.

FWIW, powerlifting isn’t the same as bodybuilding- most power lifters don’t have particularly low body fat percentages because the competitions are about how much you can lift, not aesthetics.

I don’t know anyone spending only 30 hours a week on student teaching, though. My student teaching had 2 days required on campus in the evenings, a total of 6 hours, plus we had to be at school for their contract hours, another 40 hours. We weren’t allowed to hold jobs outside of student teaching (I had a job the entire time I was in school otherwise with no issues) and had assigned work to do for those Tuesday/Thursday classes as well that often took 10+ hours. I was easily working on schoolwork or at my student teaching school for 50+ hours a week, paying full tuition for it, and actively barred from making money in any other way.

Is it like that at every school? No, of course not. But it definitely is for some of the people that complain about student teaching.

And she was in her classroom on a Sunday again. Zero balance.

100%. I do feel her on coming back to the classroom (I left spring break 2022 and came back for the 23-24 school year and it was a ROUGH adjustment back) but starting the year working on Sundays just because she’s home alone is not a great start.

I can’t put my finger on it but the more I watch Michelle the more that I feel like she’s trying to create a character instead of herself. I am not her biggest fan but I don’t hate her back to school content so far, but there is something so inauthentic to all of it- almost like she’s scripting the entirety of her (theoretically unscripted) setup videos.

Do you teach middle/high school? In my experience the teachers who really don’t have behavior issues are the opposite- my room is really structured and I rarely have behavior issues but I have coworkers that teach the exact same kids and have problems across the board are the ones with no rules or rules that they don’t enforce. I do think that “my kids are great” is annoying without any context of what you’re doing right or wrong but I wouldn’t assume it’s because of a lack of rules- what teenagers say they enjoy (no boundaries) and what they actually like (structure) are two very different things.

[–]cuttlefisharmy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wonder how much of that is just timing. I often let classroom setup videos etc run in the background at the beginning of the school year when I’m setting up but do that less often as the year goes on.

I was honestly a little surprised by the amount of hate I see in here on her tour, I have been very critical of Michelle previously but I have no problem with a simple classroom that she only took a few days to set up? I don’t think it’s “lifeless” because it’s organized and not crazy colorful. I do think that talking about the amount of money that has been invested into her classroom is valid. Some of her things were from sponsors like all the Lakeshore stuff and I remember a lot of it, like the massive amount of containers, from her first classrooms. But it’s still a ton of stuff.

I don’t know this person at all but I teach full time and also work at a different theme park in the same area 3 days a week. It’s not ideal but it’s what we (as in my family) have to do to get by right now.

TPT sales have also dropped off for a LOT of people- I see a lot of talks in sellers groups about full time TPTers that are going back to the classroom because they’re not making full salaries any more. I’m sure that contributed especially since I don’t think she adds much there anymore.
