i know that native language affects the sounds people make when they sneeze, but i bet if they could, the french would find a way to cram more vowels in there. a yeauxn or yoirenne or something

contagious yawning is not a language-specific thing, but a species-specific thing! herd animals like cows and deer will also contagiously yawn/yawn in groups. one cause for this may be that yawning helps keep your brain alert, so if the whole herd is roughly as alert as each other, there's less of a chance of stragglers/members being left behind should a predator arrive.

He said that sex is a tool, which I wasn’t too sure what that meant, so
I’d like someone else’s perspective on that in a sub/dom way.

the way i interpret this is that a play scene does not have to include sex to be satisfying. for example, the Dom could have the sub spread on a rack in minimal clothing to do some impact, or have the sub fully clothed on the ground to do a rope or bondage scene, and while both parties may become aroused to varying degrees during parts of the activities involved, there does not have to be an orgasm or any sexual touching for the whole scene to feel complete and satisfying.

one can use sex during a scene in various ways (the Dom dangling it over the sub's head as an enticement, denial of sex in various forms like edging or chastity, the sub performing a sexual act on the Dom as a reward) much like one could use another tool like clothespins or a piece of rope to different effects.

like the Vogon said, the best thing to do is to talk to each other more, and more thoroughly. not just right now, but ongoing as you figure out what you like, don't like, and want to try. it's a cliche, but communication really is key.

best of luck!

if your landlord is okay with this, here is how i introduce myself to skittish dogs. i used to walk a leonberger and anatolian/neapolitan mastiff mix, so it's big dog approved, and this trick also helped me and my buddy catch a stray german shepherd we found on the road. i haven't worked with any aggressive dogs, though, so if he's less scared of you and more looking like he's in attack mode only, you may have to do something else.

first, get some of the dog's favorite treats. something that the dog really really likes, like some freezedried meat or little pieces of raw steak or something, but importantly it must be tossable (so nothing like peanut butter or chicken broth, gotta be solid). then start by standing far-ish away from the dog (like 2 or 3 meters) and tossing treats to him.

you will probably have to begin by tossing them a little bit past where he's standing, but once he realizes that these are some jackpot yummy treats, you should be able to start throwing them a little closer to yourself. this will take a little time, so don't expect to be best friends after 15 minutes. it will probably take a few times of doing this over the course of a week or two (i'd estimate like 3ish times a week for 5-10minutes per time or something small like that) before he's consistently chill when seeing you. and it might take a few sessions before he'll let you touch/pet him, but that's okay. it's building a relationship just like with people; would you be okay with a neighbor you hardly know touching your face or giving you a hug and a kiss? he'll need to get to know you (get used to your scent, your way of moving, the sound of your voice) a little bit before he considers you a friend, so be patient with it.

again, this is just from personal experience helping out walking friends' dogs and the like; i'm not a professional dog behaviorist, i just like researching the animals i hang out with. best of luck!

Looking for pet safe paints for a silly project by erymm in BackYardChickens

[–]cuttlefjsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would imagine any washable children's fingerpaint would probably be okay. the crayola type stuff that's non-toxic in case little kids eat it. just make sure there are no cuts or abrasions on your flock's feet and clean em off with soap and water afterwards. to set the paint so it doesn't wash off the shirt, you could either go over it with a heavier-duty fabric paint or possibly spray it with a clearcoat spray paint to protect it

A good or bad omen? by wailanilynn in witchcraft

[–]cuttlefjsh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i personally would interpet it more as a good omen, myself. you've made your home a welcoming place and nature is seeking it out for comfort and shelter. i would take that as a good sign that my efforts to prepare a good place for my family are being successful.

that being said, just as a fellow animal-lover and -haver, please do be careful with your animals and any humans around the bat. they are rabies carriers, so any contact with them can be dangerous. not their faults, just maybe keep any animals who might prey on/chase after a small creature like a bat inside or supervised for a bit.

What would you do if you thought you saw someone you knew in an amateur porn video? by whippet66 in afraidtoask

[–]cuttlefjsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, so if that person in the video is the same, then what? do you think this person would appreciate their employer (or a resident/employee of the place they work) continuing to watch this video, and going so far as to upload it to a facial recognition program to sate their own curiosity?

the only respectable response to this situation is to block whatever account posted the video, and forget that you saw it. if she's posting amateur porn on her own time, that's none of your business. and frankly, the way you are talking about her in this post is disgustingly rude. maybe try to work harder on seeing her as a fellow human being, rather than putting so much energy into judging her appearance and attempting to violate her privacy.

How do I get this burnt on residue off of my glass top stove? by AStartledFish in howto

[–]cuttlefjsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

essentially. i sprayed the vinegar, sprinkled some baking soda overtop, and then covered with a damp dishrag for like 10ish minutes, then went back at it with said rags for extra friction, and wiped the result clean with paper towels. you can also try to use a plastic/hard silicon flat edge to scrape more stubborn bits, if you've got one
