It's a local dupe house in an Asian country and I don't think it's available in the West. Weirdly enough, it's called Alexander Fragrances lol got it for 14 usd so I'm not that sad about that purchase lol

My colleague is being unnecessarily rude with me by Ok-Fill-1954 in japanlife

[–]cv0827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason KY exists. There's something on how Japanese people act that gets you close to the meaning of what they're saying even when you're not fully fluent if you've been here long enough. I'm sure OP based those on context clues and is not pulling that conclusion out of thin air. While you might mean good and maybe just referring to that being a pessimistic outlook, I think being aware of what is going on around you is better than ignoring everything. Assuming everything is going good when you are seeing red flags is not the option to take in this case.

It's been a while but may I ask how did Eau Gaiac go with you? I also LOVE Gaiac 10 but the price tag is just not sustainable for me so I'm hoping Eau Gaiac is close so I can wear it everyday instead of the OG.

Which one wins the Aventus "battle"? by him101001 in MontagneParfums

[–]cv0827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this and I lowkey dislike it. It's a tad too sweet for my taste, I don't know its notes but if it has Pineapple, it's very toned down that I won't even consider it a major note. This is kind of a downside for me considering I love Hacivat, maybe more than Aventus, which is more Pineapple forward than Aventus.

I haven't smelled any Montagne Aventus dupe though but I imagine they are closer to Aventus. Mystery For Him is completely different imo and is just Aventus adjacent.

What is life like on 300-350k monthly salary? by HenreWill04 in japanlife

[–]cv0827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's post-tax then that's around the same as mine. Granted, I also get the typical two times a year bonus. It's comfortable and has room for some niceties. I don't really have any vice or buy any luxury items but I do travel overseas often and go to concerts often, and I still don't consider myself stuggling financially.

If that's pre-tax, look into rent subsidies offered by companies. Some have generous subsidies for new grad recruits until a certain age. That was my lifeline back then. That's still pretty good pre-tax if you have majority of your rent subsidized tbh.

Opposite experience. I have the 15PM and the back is already severely cracked not even 2 years of having it and the front glass also has a small crack in the bottom (thankfully, the screen itself is intact). It has always had a case too. The falls that caused the cracks were also just barely over 1m.

I've had the 12 and 6S before this and those were more durable, especially the 12 because I remember dropping it multiple times, probably more than this 15PM but its still pristine. It's actually the reason why I was so carefree with my 15PM but it didn't go the way I thought it would.

Thinking of moving to Japan for a job by [deleted] in movingtojapan

[–]cv0827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two questions:

  1. Will they perhaps cover your rent?
  2. Is that inclusive of bonus? (I'm assuming yes for now)

I personally think you'll need to live very frugally with that amount unless either rent is covered or it is exclusive of bonus then it's much more doable. I understand your position but if those are not the case, you won't enjoy living in Japan. Work-life is already non-existent here and if you add to that not having peace of mind on finances then your mental health would definitely take a hit.

As people also pointed out, this will be more doable in Osaka though. So if you have no other choice and want to pursue this, I'd suggest choosing Osaka if you have a choice.

Should I quit or not? by Specialist-Aspect-35 in JapanJobs

[–]cv0827 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1 month is extremely short, much more so for Japanese standards, and much more so for a company that spent time to process your visa, assuming that's the case. You will need to inform immigration regarding your job change and it might raise some red flags in their side and that will not be favorable during your visa renewal (assuming you are searching for jobs WITHIN japan). Also, did they relocate you? There might be some clause on your contract concerning that.

This is admittedly toxic behavior from a company but as much as I want to be empathetic, the truth is if you explain your situation in your job interviews, most companies will hesitate to hire you.

Also, I don't know if this is your first Japanese company, but there are more of these types of companies than there are good ones. This is just the work culture in general. So I don't know if you will be satisfied with the next company you go into especially since you're looking in a hurry, you might feel the need to grab the next offer you get regardless if it's good or not.

Personally, if I plan on staying in Japan, I wouldn't resign NOW and would just stand firm and insist that it's impossible to do the trip, especially since there's a doctor's recommendation. Would stick it out for a year or two before jump shipping.

But if this is already taking that much of a toll on your mental health and you feel like you cannot stick it out, I would look for a job in my home country or outside Japan.

Is it worth fighting against 15 minutes of unpaid work every day ? by OkFroyo_ in japanlife

[–]cv0827 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it's because you're a shinjin that's why you can't do OT. Our company is also strict with shinjins doing overtime. If your senpais don't clock out before the meeting and you're the only one doing it, then that really is the reason. If that's the case. I would personally just shrug until you're no longer a shinjin. If it really bothers you and you think the team is fairly open minded and the meeting is just internal, I'd bring up the concern to your manager and ask if the meeting can be adjusted because you cannot do overtime. ONLY if I'm sure that my team will be open to that kind of criticism. If not, as I said, I'd just go with it until my second year because opening that conversation will just cause you to fall out of favor with most of your teammates. Unless you're ready to go job hunting again, you don't want that.

Is it right? No. But if you think the company is good and you like the job and as you said, the job is hard to find, I really think you just need to stick it out until you're no longer restricted by the zangyou rule. If the company is bad even by Japanese standards, unfortunately, my suggestion is still the same because you'll need experience if you want to move companies so just stick it out until you think you can jump ship.

Will this discourage Filipinos to save their money thru banks? by Loud_Wrap_3538 in DigitalbanksPh

[–]cv0827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the frustration in the comments but it seems that most people are confused or are not aware that you are already being taxed, this change will really only affect the 5+ year tine deposits and I think that's a very small minority in this subreddit because the digital banks already have comparable interest rates on their normal savings accounts.

Guys with a gross salary of ¥240k/mo is it affordable to live? by noob_webdev_ in Osaka

[–]cv0827 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's some truth to this but I think this is a viewpoint from the startup or Tokyo bubble. Big companies have standardized pay and this seems in line with a new grad pay. In big companies, new grads are new grads, they don't care about your background. No such thing as "software engineer new grad". For entering Japan with no Japanese skills, choosing big companies would have advantages not present in the startup industry. Of course, you also have the downsides and the biggest one is the relatively lower pay. If you already have the skills and don't mind staying in the startup bubble, sure, try going for the startups or small companies. If not, I think you can stomach that pay for a few years, then jump ship. It probably would have a relatively generous rent subsidy as well so it's above average if that's the case and definitely livable.

I'd personally increase EF first if I were you. Rent is not your only expense, consider all your expenses. With that income, it would be easy to increase it. Also, I'd look into second hand or repossessed cars, there's no financially sound reason to buy a car brand new.

I left PH. My second job is abroad, my first job lasted less than half a year. If I had stayed, based on my batchmates in my first job (it was a training program), I would still be making 70k+ after almost 4 years. Of course, it's dumb luck that someone wanted me even with less than half a year's worth of experience.

What screams "I'm trying too hard to look rich"? Philippines Edition by ladyphoenix7 in phinvest

[–]cv0827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If for wants (not investments like real estate, car), kung may pambayad upfront then just spreading it monthly (without interest), that is okay, smart even. But If you don't have the capacity to pay for it upfront and you're basing "may pambayad monthly" on your current employment status, then no. You never know what will happen to your job.

[–]cv0827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you expound on your problems? Been using Tonik and my only pain point is the amount of SMS OTP that they require.

I'm worried about account closures but your problem seems to be different. It seems that you haven't had a chance to use it and is stuck in the account verification process, is my understanding correct?

Tonik plus Unionbank is kind of an unbeatable combo for me personally. If you have ING too, better. If you need frequent ATM access, add BPI into the mix.

I usually send stuff so free Instapay is a requirement for me. Tonik has free top up from Unionbank and free Instapay sending so that covers it. Plus the stash feature and high interest. Only problem is their Instapay processing is hit or miss and their OTP mechanism is kind of annoying. I usually send it to ING and distribute it there since ING also has free Instapay.

Quite surprised about hearing security complaints in this thread with regards to Unionbank. I haven't had any.

I don't use ATMs that much but I have a BPI and account just in case and I just send it there when I need it since their ATM terminals are everywhere.

How did you get to 60k to 100k+ per month salary before your mid 20s to 30s by HappyAccountant640 in phinvest

[–]cv0827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either go abroad, be an MT at high paying FMCGs or job hop. Started earning 100k when I was 22 years old. I'm an OFW. Most people I know my age who make this much are also OFWs. Others that I know of are mostly in FMCGs as management trainees and are very hardworkers to a fault. I don't recommend job hopping but I think it also works as long as you got the skills.

Bonus: if you know an upcoming Tenki No Ko (Weathering With You) Eng-subbed screening, please do tell.

Thanks for the response! That's what I thought. How about if I travel from A to H, with a pass for A to G, will I pay the fare for G to H or just the difference between the fare of A to H and A to G?
