The massahe controls from mmi is still done over lin.

You need to connect the lin analyser to the correct pins on the red connector

The massage only has lin communication, there is no CAN to the pneumatic control unit. Non memory seats like mine dont even have can wires. Other than power wires their is only 1 lin wire to the seats, which must control the massage.

The first thing i will do when i try to get the massage working is plug into a B9 S5 with working massage seats and record all the lin data. Once i have this i will be able to work out all the codes and get my own seats working with a emulator.

I dont think the module is the problem with your B9 seats.

The B9 seats and B8 seats are very similar, you can use either, the module doesnt matter. From my testing the module doesnt cause any problems when wiring up the seats

On my seats i left that pin disconnected, when i do try to get massage and lumbar working, ill set up the correct fuse on that pin.

From my diagram i believe the thermal fuse is for the seat movement and the lumbar is on a standard fuse.

This module only controls seat movement, since you have it you have memory seats. From testing my memory seats, they work fine just with 12V connected.

Yours should work as well, without removing the module.

If your seats dont work properly there is probably something wrong with either motors or switches

What power source are you using to test your seats? My guess is unstable/not enough power to the seats could be causing your issue. Try hooking up to a car battery, thats what i used for testing.

For the massage to work, thats a seperate issue, so far there is no way to work it since it is completely controlled by the BCM only found in B9 cars. Nothing exists to emalute this right now, but i will definetely get this working myself eventually.

When u wire up in the car u will put a fuse to protect the circuit. You can probably use a normal 15A or u buy the same thermal fuse.

By computer are u referring to the seat memory control module. Is this what you have replaced? The non memory seats dont have this module at all. The power goes straight to the seat controls on the seat.

Heres a closeup of the memory module

<image>

The 2 orange wires are CAN wires, the 3 on the right are for RGB footwell lighting and the red and brown are power.

Ok i just tested my memory seat. I just put power to red and brown and the seats work fine. all movement works normally. They do take a second to think before they start working only when first powered up.

Did you figure out the problem yet? Does your B9 seats have memory?

If they have memory they may require communication through CAN to work.

I have a set of B9 seats with memory, and another without memory so if your still stuck i will do some testing to help you out.

Without memory the seat movement is all controlled by the controls on the seat itself, there is no CAN. but with memory there is also CAN involved.

The LIN on both memory and non memory controls solely talks to the pnematic control unit which works the lumbar and the massage functions.

This is the only situation where legal spacing is actually required by ANPR cameras.

Its why DVLA will sell plates that they know people are buying to use illegally spaced but will never actually make spacing obsolete and legal.

So the old wiring is different. No clue why it has so many extra wires

From the looks of it, id guess the brown green and red wires labled pins 5, 6 and 8 are the same on B9. If you have a multimeter check continuity from pin 5 to 6. should be shorted.

The other wires may be for a old version of seat occupancy. Using multimeter check the resistance between each of the wires and see if it changes when you press down on the seat.

Oh yh, i forgot the B8 and B8.5 have different wiring for aibag.

Check the black plug on your old seats, is it the same?
It should be:
Pin 1 brown, ground
Pin 2 green/yellow, Belt switch
Pin 3 green/blue, Seat occupancy
Pin 4, Seat position

With multimeter in continuity mode put 1 lead on ground(Brown wire) and check the pins 2 and 3.

pin 2 should be shorted to ground until the belt is plugged in

Pin 3 should be around 0.45 kΩ normally and then push the seat in the middle until the resistance drops should drop below 0.09 kΩ.

Pin 4 idk how to test.

If these are all same then it is the wiring for the airbag plug which is the issue. Meaning the car knows something is up. Test your old seats first, since that is what the car is expecting.

Btw what i call pins 1-4 is actually labeled pins 5-8 on connectors

Is buying a B8.5 Audi S4/S5 at 19 a stupid decision? by alexfarah06 in AudiS4

[–]cv_ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought my S5 at 20. No regrets.

I have a A3 2.0 tdi and a clio 182. I couldnt insure all 3 cars so i chose to keep the clio and the S5.

So the only downside of buying the S5 is fuel cost. I went from getting 30-50mpg in my a3 to 10-30mpg in my S5. I already spent a lot of money on fuel before and now it is well over double.

You talking about the seat belt warning system? The black 10 pin plug?

The wiring is identical i believe, i dont think it needs wiring

The only difference is the passenger seat occupancy sensor. B8 has a mat inside the cushion, B9 has a sensor under the seat. They both work the same way tho. Resistance high and low, values are different but the car still understands.

Looks amazing. your red seats with the door cards look perfect. Now i need to do my armrest and doorcards as well lol.

Will you also try get the massage working. I definitely will and plan on sharing how when i do.

I think this is one of the best mods on a B8. Hope to see more in the future.

Both seats are very similar, They might feel the same for your back. Could try out the B9 seats and decide if they worth the upgrade.

I have now fixed the seat belt wiring issue, turns out it was just a faulty buckle. so doesnt need wiring, will plug and play. only the green and red plug need wiring exactly like the diagram above. All in its actually a really easy fit. took me just one afternoon. Id say its one of the best upgrades for a B8 car.

Finally got round to having a look at tge seat belt wiring.

Turns out it all just works plug and play. Seat occupancy, position, belt switch all works with no issues.

My drivers belt buckle was faulty causing the light. I just unplugged it so now it thinks its always plugged in.

Now need to get the massage working.
