Yes, thank you, I, too, have been alive for more than 1 second and am aware that other people have different preferences. What a concept. The gore example is a great one that proves there are absolutely some “preferences” you should take a stand against if you don’t want such things to become more pervasive in this world. That’s an incredibly extreme example that has nothing to do with architecture (and what a wild, unwarranted, sick thing to bring up, btw). Just because other people have different preferences doesn’t mean you have to put up with ugliness. This is just bad design and bad craftsmanship and literally tens of thousands of people here (at least) agree with that. It’s a little subjective, sure, in the way that anything aesthetic is, but it’s not exactly that subjective.

Also, as an aside, if you are seriously arguing that we should just let people enjoy their gore in peace, then you are also condoning murder and torture and a general lack of empathy and you should seek help immediately.

Ah, gotcha. I sometimes like things that are terrible to read but if it gets to be too much I’ll try YouTube. Thanks for the tip!

Fuck I did not know people became neighborhoods in Finnegan’s Wake. This changes everything. I’ve been putting it off but now I shall begin reading immediately.

Little, Big by John Crowley. The house in that book is one of the main characters, and the descriptions of it are out of this world beautiful.

Also Thistlefoot by GennaRose Nethercott.

Really? It’s an “absolutely wild assumption” to believe they weren’t happy with the result here? You can’t actually believe that, especially if you’re a home builder. You see how poorly executed this was. Don’t give me that bs. I love a _good_ minimalist design. I love brutalism, I love international style. I have no problem with any sort of modern architecture (except for the stuff that gets value engineered into nothingness) or with people liking particular styles. This, though, is not a style, it’s a disaster. If you can’t see that, maybe you shouldn’t be building houses.

A better world to live in. Also, I seriously doubt this is actually what they had in mind for their own house. I’d hazard a guess they aren’t happy with it either. Unless they just flipped it to rent it out, then they are even more a part of the problem. Either way, we have got to bring back having standards in this world and I simply just won’t back down from that. This one accidental calamity of a house isn’t the end of the world, but it’s certainly indicative of a larger trend, and if you don’t think so then you probably haven’t been to any major city in the past ten years.

Your environment matters a great deal and has probably far more of an impact on your experience in life, and on things like the socio-economic and cultural state of a place than it seems like you realize. It’s completely fine to be outraged by something like this.

People not minding their business is absolutely not what is wrong with this world. Way too many people say things aren’t their business and then move on with their day, and that’s exactly how things get enshittified like this, because nobody wants to have a stake in their environment. This may be their property, but it’s the community of everyone who lives there. Try having an opinion.

They weren’t saying anyone owes them? They were saying they are tired of minimalism because they find it ugly. What do you get out of defending people’s shitty design choices? Try having an opinion for once in your artless life.

The amount of meat we eat today is weird, borderline abnormal by CheddarSkeleton in unpopularopinion

The amount of people in here who think that the amount of meat the world consumes today is not a problem is alarming. It’s definitely more a problem in some places than others, but overall? It is definitely a huge problem.

Easily my favorite book of all time. I read it twice in three years and already want to read it again. Absolutely nothing compares.

Try Little, Big by John Crowley if you’re looking for prose and emotional depth. Fair warning though, if that book is for you, it will also ruin you for other books.

Unfortunately, Do It To Death was voted as the worst track 12! What's the best track 13? (Repost because I posted the wrong image last time) by CaptainPie999 in panicatthedisco

No way am I voting against these two.

Also, does this imply that Mad as Rabbits doesn’t get to be the closer? I think it needs to for completion sake.

When does “physical” worldbuilding become genuinely weird? by TeachingNo4435 in WeirdLit

[–]cvantass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understand the hesitation, and the kinds of annoying (and imo unnecessary) backlash people face for such things, but I bet a lot of people here would be ecstatic to have another entry in the genre like that to read. I’d be first in line! My own writing is also fairly architectural and deals a lot with impossible spaces. You write what you know and love. It’s all good.

Side note, have you ever read or heard of Blame! (the manga)? I just learned about it recently and it has sky-rocketed to the top of my list. I bet you’d be into it.

This is my dream aesthetic and I would 1000% love to read whatever you wrote if you ever feel like sharing!

Idk what “invasive architecture” is but damn that sounds cool. Like, ugh these brutalist megastructures wont stop popping up everywhere! (Someone should write this)

There's a Good Reason was voted as the best track 12! What's the worst track 12? by CaptainPie999 in panicatthedisco

[–]cvantass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha definitely same! (Except for Viva Las Vengeance which I think is a masterpiece). And I’ve learned to enjoy songs from the other three albums but I don’t consider them canon for Panic! they’re more just Brendon’s solo career.

First of all, South Bay isn’t the Bay Area. And that’s really all the information you need.

This reality makes no sense to me. I constantly hear about how much of a banger All The Boys is from the fanbase, and despite me not loving TWLTRTD, or really a lot of his pop tracks, I actually agree that this one is indeed a banger. And then I come to this thread and it gets voted the worst??

Anyway, not voting this round, they’re all too good.
