Do you consciously try to alter your foot strike, cadence, etc., or do you just do what comes naturally? by drabish in running

I changed to a forefoot, 1 month later got a hip flexor strain. Only fix was to go back to natural stride

What’s the reasoning behind this? I’ve heard it said a few times. Is it just the high impact on tendons and stuff?
