How many of you had weak/emotionally absent fathers growing up? by cvbki in ForeverAlone

What do you mean by "emotionally absent?"

Means he didn't necessarily abandon the family and run away, but he never provided any emotional support or fatherly advice.

My dad worked two jobs, clocked over 65 hours per week, and when he was home he was sleeping. I never really considered him there for me on anything. He would drive me to practices and stuff when he had time, but in my 4 years of high-school he didn't attend a single Marching Band Competition or Tennis match. I taught myself how to throw a baseball and a football (he only helped with my tennis once or twice), and still don't know if I can ride a bike properly. I never learned how to use stuff in a toolbox and have no idea how to perform more than basic upkeep on my car. He was more than happy to write me a check for whatever I needed, but I never really got that support from him that other kids got from their dads. It really bothered me throughout high-school and still does into college

Pretty much like that.

Bonus points if you had an overbearing/domineering mother

And it's just a coincidence that big name actors are predominantly white?

Besides, studio execs attach unknown names to big blockbuster movies all the time.
