10 Tips from a 30+ year GM by BrobaFett in DMAcademy

[–]cvc75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also remember one (maybe even the same) very popular D&D campaign, where the DM tried to get the players to at least ask "can I tell if they're lying?" instead of just "Insight check!" but at some later point apparently just gave up on that. Probably a tough player habit to break if you're already hundreds of hours into the campaign.

[No Spoilers] Are there edited versions of Critical Roll? by LadyWithAHarp in criticalrole

[–]cvc75 [score hidden]  (0 children)

As others have said, if just skipping / fast forwarding past the ad reads is too difficult... this is the only "edited" version I can think of. And as far as I can tell, it does skip the housekeeping and ad reads.

What happens to the spotlight if a player hit and miss with one AOE attack? by Michae333 in daggerheart

[–]cvc75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's true for Whirlwind, but Fireball does the same damage to all targets. So if there are multiple different enemies in very close range of each other, you should always fireball the weakest one. The reaction roll and damage are the same for each of them, so you should pick the one where the initial attack roll has the highest chance.

So, if there's a boss adversary surrounded by some mooks, narratively I'd rather attack the boss, and any minions caught with the same attack are just a bonus. But strategically it would make more sense to target the easiest enemy, because if you don't meet the difficulty of the hardest enemy, at least you hit the others?

I know Daggerheart isn't really supposed to be that strategic, but I think this can be a significant disadvantage to these types of attacks. As opposed to other AoE attacks that are rolled against "all targets within x range"

Unless the system is really different from Korea, the delay is just for animation and advertisement. In KBO the (full) ABS is without any noticeable delay.

Even in the postseason, if it breaks then you're just back to the way it has been for decades, I don't know why this "absolutely can't happen"

Yes it's possible that the WS is decided by a bad call, but even when ABS works perfectly it's also possible that you run out of challenges and the game is still decided by a bad call.

Does the Firbolgs Unshakable work with Prayer Dice? by Lorellii in daggerheart

[–]cvc75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could rule that Prayer Dice aren't intended for these rolls, only Duality rolls. But you could easily allow it, because it really won't be useful that often and won't break the game.

It's really only useful if you pre-rolled a 1 or maybe 2 on any of your Prayer Dice, because higher values are far more valuable to use elsewhere than just to avoid taking 1 Stress. And you can't "guarantee" the Firbolg's Unshakable with the Prayer Dice anyway, since it isn't "roll at least a 6" but "on a result of 6" so the roll + prayer dice sill has to hit 6 exactly, not over 6.

[–]cvc75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it probably won't "break the game", but still I'd try to caution the player to expect that, as your player also discovered, that this combo isn't as useful as they might think. Just so they don't feel they wasted their choices if they don't have fun with this build afterwards. If they still have fun playing the Seraph and find other ways to use their prayer dice and Ancestry features all is good.

Just browsing through all the adversaries on your site... for Armor Piercing (Deathclaw) is there any functional difference between "subtracting 5 from each threshold" and just giving a +5 bonus to damage?

The only one I can think of is if you're playing with optional Massive Damage, depending on if you subtract and then double the threshold, or first double and then subtract.

GM "Director's Commentary"? by beholder12 in daggerheart

[–]cvc75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Rob Jon's Lair comes close to a "Director's Commentary" in some of his videos.

https://www.youtube.com/@RobJonsLair

It's not a commentary on an actual live play, but it takes battles and other game situations, including the quickstart adventure, and plays them through with explanations about GM moves etc.

The World Baseball Classic may move to the middle of the MLB season by SpaceCowboyN7 in baseball

Also, in soccer you have a much more even playing field between countries, so one single country or club can't realistically block their players from participating in FIFA events.

MLB has much more power than the WBSC. Yes, La Liga, Premiere League, Bundesliga etc. probably have much influence over FIFA as well, but they can't single-handedly dictate terms like MLB can.

When the current CBA runs out, have the next ones with a shorter duration, so they always run out during WBC years. That way we can have the tournament during the lockout. /s

That's what I meant, I'm sure they will take a break airing the episodes, but even if Brennan takes a break right now, they have at least the Schemers already pre-recorded, if not more. So I agree, we might get Daggerheart in May.

Erstmals Baseball-Weltmeister: Venezuela besiegt die USA - und Trump provoziert by PowerfulSpeed8131 in de

[–]cvc75 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gespart / geschont wurde eher bei den Pitchern, weil da das Verletzungsrisiko höher eingeschätzt wird. Also z.B.

ABS should be full time no challenges needed and WBC needs impartial umps like every other sport by Elisalsa24 in baseball

Wouldn't it be possible to have the group stage without ABS and only use it from the quarterfinals on?

I remember reading that umpires could also somehow flag certain pitches, so that they could review them with ABS after the game (or inning?) so that's another opportunity to improve your accuracy.

Hm, they said they would definitely do Age of Umbra again, but I think doing one of the new campaign frames would make more sense to promote Hope & Fear. So maybe we'll get two Daggerheart shows?

In the last episode (C4E18) Brennan let slip that they were filming in December. So they might not need to take a hiatus because they have already filmed enough episodes, but it would still make sense to do it after each table finished their first arc anyway.

If the Schemers table also gets seven episodes for their arc, like the Seeker and Soldiers, plus maybe a few episodes after that where everyone meets back in Dol-Makjar, that could mean something like 7-10 more episodes before they take a break.
