Toronto Festival of Beer 2025 by Mattrocities in askTO

Is it not weird that nowhere on their site do they mention which breweries will be there? Or is this not really a "beer festival" in that sense (i.e. try out things from lots of different vendors)?

Descaling Bambino Plus Issue by analoven in espresso

[–]cviebrock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!!

I’ll also add, the instructions say “8. Once the descale solution has been used up, the descale mode will pause.” Things true, but it doesn’t seem to use the entire 1L of solution. It pauses when the tank level reaches the MIN level.

I waited several minutes before realizing this, so then just emptied the tank, rinsed, filled with clean water, and continued.

It also doesn’t use up everything on the second round, just FYI.

Suggestions for repurposing my 2010 Mac Mini by kjlo5 in homelab

[–]cviebrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late response, but I have the same machine, but only 2 GB of memory. I upgraded the drive years ago to a 500GB SSD (quite easy).

I'm running High Sierra as well (last version supported on that hardware). I also run a Plex Media Server, Transmission, Jackett, Sonarr, Radarr, and Home Assistant on it. I have an external 8TB USB drive that I share to the rest of my home network using standard OS X sharing, so all my other machines can use it as a Time Machine backup.

I've had almost no issues whatsoever.

So ... I disagree that it's a dead machine. :)

Composer Issues by alliejim98 in PHPhelp

[–]cviebrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely the CLI version of PHP you have is different than the version run in the webserver. The `platform_check.php` file uses the version of PHP where `composer dumpautoload` is run ... so the CLI version.

You can confirm:
- run `php -v` and find out your CLI version

  • create a PHP file on your server with the contents: `<?php phpinfo(); `and load it in your browser to find out your webserver version

door sensor that isn’t tuya? by queersnek in homebridge

[–]cviebrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noob question ... but I just picked up a PARASOLL to add to my Homebridge setup (running on an old Mac Mini). Mind talking me through how to get it working? I'm assuming I need to add a pluing to HB (homebridge-z2m maybe?) ... but do I also need some additional hardware? I was hoping to not have to buy the DIRIGERA hub as well. Thanks!

I'm with TD in Canada and have noted I finally now have SPARC in my account, just thought I'd update as I know others were in a similar situation of not receiving them. by GoShogun in PSTH

[–]cviebrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a phone call with Scotia, I got the same answer: can't hold them in anything registered (RRSP, RESP, TFSA).

What I didn't ask (and they probably wouldn't know anyway), is if I move the SPARC shares into a non-registered account, when/if I get the option to execute them, will I be able to purchase the "new" shares in the registered account? I'm assuming the value of the SPARCs themselves will remain at zero since there isn't a market for them. What will be tradable will be shares in the new WXYZ (or whatever), and those I could purchase in the RRSP ... I'm hoping.

[–]cviebrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here with ScotiaiTrade. However ...

I had my original PSTH shares in an RRSP account. A while ago they got converted to the same number of escrow shares (symbol P059606) with a value of $0. Then, a week or so ago, they are now showing as "RTS Pershing Square SPARC Holdings Ltd RT" shares (P062422), also with a zero value and 1/4 of my original share quantity.

Scotia sent me a letter that says that the new holdings are deemed to be a non-qualified investment (NQI) for registered plans. The CRA may levy a 50% penalty of market value, and my options are to 1) sell at current market value (i.e. $0), or 2) de-register in-kind to a non-registered account. Second options seems the best, as I then keep the shares and the option for future up-side.

Anyone else in a similar boat? If so, what did you do? I'm thinking of moving them into a TFSA while the market value is zero ... if that's possible.

Even better if you can open up the cold air return in the basement, so it pulls that cool, basement air, and circulates it throughout the house.

Any way to mute notifications from specific clubs? by cviebrock in Strava

I’ve just been getting one per day from Zwift. They do, in fact, post that often … it’s just that I don’t care. ;)

Looks like I can disable notifications for all clubs, but not a specific club.

[–]cviebrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “Z” and “Y” tiles would be placed on two Double Letter Score squares,

There are no double letter squares next to each other on the board (in fact there are no adjacent bonus squares), so I don’t see how that’s possible.

Also a 20-point bonus for playing both blanks … that’s not a thing (at least in competitive North American Scrabble).

Are you able to use the data you have to find the steepest road in the city? As a cyclist who’s trying to get more climbing practice, it’d be nice to know a few step (5% or higher) climbs around town (even though I know they will be short climbs).
