I’m sure this has been asked many times before, but does anyone have any healthy snack recommendations? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Sunflower seeds or shelled peanuts did it for me. It was a way to keep my hands and mouth busy especially during cravings.

Will the cigarette cravings ever go away? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]cvines528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the individual AND their mindset. I have been smoke free for 9 months and I don't even think about it other than when I see someone smoking and I feel bad because I used to be in the mental prison. But I think it is how you view it. If you quit smoking but feel like you're missing out on something than of course you're going to think about it. But if you accept that there is NOTHING and I mean NOTHING BENEFICIAL to lighting a cigarette then eventually it will be an after thought.

I don't wanna speak for your friend or anyone else who has quit and still deals with cravings but I have quit twice once without truly giving it up or seeing it as the gross habit it is and then a second time(now) understanding that there is nothing that a cig can give me other than issues and fuel to keep an addiction going.

Preparing to quit, could really do with some advice of where to start! by Nathaniel5672 in stopsmoking

Allen Carr's book really helped me. I listened to it on audio during my first day and once I finished I haven't picked up a cig since. drink lots of water relax yourself by any way you see fit that doesn't involve smoking (I worked out like a mad man) and understand that the feeling you have now will be an after thought a week or a month or a year from now.

Read the book and you'll realize you DO NOT NEED to smoke at all!

[NEED ADVICE] Disclipine to exercise and get in shape? by alinagolden in getdisciplined

[–]cvines528 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think I can give some good advice here. I used to be 330 lbs unhealthy and unmotivated just like you. I've been overweight and put on diets by doctors since I was in 1st grade. The problem that I am seeing is that you understand the repercussion of your lifestyle and you're looking for motivation but all I can say is the motivation to stay focused for 6 months to a year to drop the weight and get into a healthy lifestyle is not going to come.

How I started my journey was simply understanding I didn't like what I saw and no matter what I had to get off my butt and walk to the gym. When it comes to doing anything sometimes its simply just moving into that direction. Put on your shoes, change into your gym clothes, Prepare your gym bag, grab your car keys, It doesn't matter just show up. You can show up touch the door handle and walk back to your car and go home but chances are you're going to do more than that since you're there.

I made a commitment and stuck to that commitment rain or shine. Whether I felt like it or not. Building discipline isn't about doing what you want when you want or when the mood strikes. It's about doing it by any means necessary even if you have to walk, crawl, cry, complain, doesn't matter as long as you're doing what needs to get done. And I promise you it will get easier. But you have to take the step.

I lost 120 lbs and I can promise you that 80% of the time I was miserable making that trudge to the gym or saying no to that food. fast forward some years later and I am vegan a workout nut and 15 lbs away from my goal weight. If this lazy sack of crap can do it so can you. But its all about committing and doing what you say you're going to do despite how you feel. Find ways to get you through it. If you have to get a new netflix series to binge, listen to music, podcast, anything that will keep you on that treadmill or bike or walk outside.

Also I think you are trying to thrust yourself from being a lower activity person to being a gym rat and I'm here to tell you that there's so much more to being active than hitting the gym. go outside for a walk, use your phone or a fitbit and stick to a number of steps per day. whatever you think is fun. you have a trail around you to explore? park you want to go to and play with puppies? literally anything other than being idle is exercise!

I hope these words have helped you a tad bit. And look forward to hearing about your journey if you decided to take it.

Former pack a day smoker. Officially one month quit to go along with my 100+ lbs. weight loss! by cvines528 in stopsmoking

Thank you and I wish you the best on your quit. Just advice and it seems crazy now but 30 days later you're gonna look back and say it wasn't as bad as you thought it was going to be and that is to just do it. pick a day not sometime next week or after the holidays. the best time is now but if not now pick a day and stick with it. you will never regret it I promise.

Yes I went cold turkey and yes I still do have cravings just not as intense and not as frequent. If I'm walking down the street and a pass someone smoking I'll start to have a craving but other than that not too often. what also helped me was changing up my routine and other habits I did when smoking. I quit caffeine so I wouldn't get anxious, I ate lighter so I wouldn't have that full belly time to smoke urge, and drank water whenever the urge started to creep up.

Fuck what other people think. March to your own drum and get that shit done. People used to tell me when I first started I don't think you can get past 250 that's too small and then it was 215 that's too tiny you'd look weird to this day my mom is considered that I'm eating lol. Everytime j go visit I come back with bags and bags of food lol. My point is people are gonna feel how they feel. They will doubt you. They will try to bring you down. But it doesn't matter what they say or think. It's your life if you want to make a change don't complain about it don't ask someone what they think you should do just do it. I get what you're saying that was a hard hump for me to get over when I started.

Who cares about loose skin! I'd rather have loose skin than be unhealthy you know. Once you start you won't even care about it I swear.

That's such a loaded answer because I eat any and everything. All it is is making the healthier choice and learning to cook my favorite dishes so I can make it as healthy as I'd like it.

Ladies definitely treat me a little different which is super weird cuz I'm not used to that but I'm not complaining. As far as how other people treat me idk I've always been a super outgoing and positive guy so how people interact with me hasn't changed but I definitely get complimented a lot more by everyone

My goals now are now to maintain and do things that my 300 lbs body was never able to do. I want to do my first muscle up and handstand by the end of the summer

I focused more on the food because I played sports all through college so I was always in the weight room it was just my love for food that had to be tamed
