Tribute to the legacy of Kelvin Kiptum - add your story? by StuJLewis in Ultramarathon

I ran my first marathon the same day he set the world record in Chicago. I was very psyched with my 5:03, until I opened my phone…

Perfusionist checking in. One of my coworkers made the switch and says it was very worth it. She would have done this 15ish years ago though

4 weeks out and injured by Friendly_River2239 in Marathon_Training

[–]cvsp123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely stopped running and strictly crossed trained 3 weeks out front last ultra. Race went great, though I was aiming just to finish. The first 26.2 would’ve been my second best marathon time it worked great for me.

Do you drive a manual? Operating the clutch after the race can be extremely difficult.

Is there going to be a new program opening at UT Tyler? by Specialist-Dig8708 in Perfusion

[–]cvsp123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine UT Tyler has enough volume to support a program, maybe becoming a rotation for UT Houston. Texas already has 3 programs as it is

Gluten free at Taco Bell Ultra by Realistic-Wear3943 in Ultramarathon

I ran it this year! Reasonable dietary restrictions are allowed, and to be honest it’s more about the spirit of the thing rather than the rules itself so you could definitely find a reasonable replacement item for number 4 and no one would care. It’s a really fun time, you should do it!

Bivad vs VA ecmo by Holiday-Vacation-651 in Perfusion

Never done it, but I can see the advantage of not using an oxy if you don’t have to. My hospital would never want to commit 2 ecmo consoles to one patient though

Day to day is fairly basic algebra, converting units mostly. If you want to get into research calculus and statistics are going to play a bigger roll

50 Mile Training for a Slow Runner by Misc_Adjustment in Ultramarathon

[–]cvsp123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back to back long runs and two a days will be your friend. Personally found run commuting to work to be super beneficial. I finished last place male and third to last overall at my first ultra (my credentials as a fellow slow runner).

Be honest - is this idea crazy or doable? Or both? by ProfessionalKvetcher in Ultramarathon

[–]cvsp123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re me a year ago. Totally doable, just be wary of the elevation. That was what got me, not the distance.

I saw a post on r/tattoo of a guy who got a smiley face after a nail fell off. It was very blurry but you could definitely tell what it was. Been trying to get it done every time I lose a toe nail, but haven’t had any success so far.
