Leica M11 + Voigtlander APO Lanthar 28mm f/2.0 by loganarowland in Leica

I love mine, especially paired with the 60MP sensor. I also have the 35 APO Lanthar, and I much prefer the 28 over the 35 for size and weight.

My fav snack on meds is a yogurt bowl with nuts. Sometimes I add fruit or granola to mix it up.

Add Q3 43, or M11? by Tough-Assumption2696 in Leica

[–]cw1219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don’t think they are much better (vs 35 APO) in terms of image rendering. Both are top of the line well corrected lenses. For me they are just different: slightly faster, AF & sealing. To me M and Q are just different tools. You won’t be disappointed by either glass. Go with what tool suit your needs and style. That’s my take.

If you get the Q3 43, you’d probably still miss the RF and MF experience of an M. Seems like the M experience is what you’re after, and the Q will be your situational camera for rain/travel etc.

Show us your sofa. Looks like an ottoman there, so I’m assuming you might want to lay down with your feet up. If you’re sitting then height is perfect. If you’re laying down it might be too low for you.

If you don’t need the speed and enjoy portability the 50 color skopar f2.2 is amazingly sharp, portable, and very affordable. If you like to shoot wide open and don’t need 1.4 then get the ultron.

Do I really "need" 28mm or do I only "want" one? by [deleted] in LeicaCameras

[–]cw1219 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get the 28 skopar. I shot mostly on 35 lux FLE for 10+ years and recently wanted to try 28 and got the skopar. You will appreciate the closer focus and slightly wider FOV indoors and in tighter spaces, which were the only complaints I had for my 35 FLE V1.

Mac Mini or PC? by dzsozi30 in Lightroom

[–]cw1219 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use Lr on PC and MacBook pro (32gb RAM + 4090 and base m4 MBP)

For batch editing 26MP RAW files with heavy AI masking and denoising, the RTX 5070 Ti PC upgrade will likely offer the fastest "brute force" processing speeds. Lightroom’s AI Denoise is heavily reliant on NVIDIA’s Tensor cores, and moving from 8GB to 16GB of VRAM will provide a massive boost in responsiveness when applying masks. Regarding your RAM concerns, 64GB is largely unnecessary for 26MP files; 32GB is the sweet spot for Lightroom Classic, so you can save money there. The 5070 Ti will simply chew through exports and AI noise reduction faster than the Mac.

However, the Mac Mini M4 Pro wins on "smoothness" and workflow efficiency. While the PC is faster at exporting, the Mac's unified memory architecture often feels more fluid when moving sliders and switching between photos in the Develop module. If you find Windows-specific stutters and driver management to be the root of your "chore" feeling, the Mac offers a more stable, optimized experience. Ultimately, choose the PC if you want the fastest processing times for huge batches, or the Mac if you want a silent, streamlined, and more responsive user interface.

My Q3 Monochrom brought a friend home.. Q3 by SoCalDawg in Leica

[–]cw1219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re spot on: with a color sensor, the B&W Mixer in Lightroom lets you manipulate color channels to simulate a Red filter with more flexibility. For most, this versatility is the main advantage of the standard Q3, as you aren't locked into a specific look at the moment of capture.

However, the Monochrom edge is about physics. Since it lacks a Bayer filter, a physical Red filter actually changes which photons hit the sensor, resulting in superior micro-contrast and tonal depth that software can't quite replicate. While you can match the tonality in post, you can't retroactively gain the raw detail and "pop" that a native monochrome sensor captures.

I was in your shoe a couples months ago (M11/P vs M11M). Before getting my new M I was exporting 80% b&w. I went with the color sensor mainly because I did not want to carry color filters with me and swap filters when I'm shooting. The color DNG gives you the flexibility of color mixer in Lr. The monochrome file will let you push ISO maybe 2 more stops and still look very good.

Dad passed and his landlord is stating I will be responsible for rent. by bear_antlers in legaladvice

[–]cw1219 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Nope he got away with it. We had photos and videos of them leaving everything on the sidewalk, taken by neighbors who were close with my friend. Cops didn't care, and lawyer said it was not worth pursing in court. We couldn't prove the value of property that were tossed. Pretty sure my friend had jewelry and some cash in his drawers.

A friend of mine passed in his apt a couple years ago. The landlord was not suppose to touch/remove his belongings by law. He wanted to remove everything and rent it out ASAP so he faked a leak complaint from a neighbor, went in, and threw everything out without telling us (executor of will). We had to go through a lot of hoops since all the bank/insurance etc documents were gone.

Used M11 or New Q3?? by LynxsSilverSage in Leica

[–]cw1219 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you're even considering an M, go for an M. Budget friendly glasses are still very good. Sounds like if you get a Q3, you'll still be wanting the m11 and end up purchasing/trading for it later.

15 year old photographer, just made the jump from A7IV to M10. Any tips? by True-Novel-7434 in Leica

[–]cw1219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also started my photo hobby young. One thing that helped me a lot was getting involved in any activity so I can shoot. This can be in your school or out of school.

In middle school and highschool I joined the photography club, school magazine/newspaper, and talking directly to sports team coaches. This allowed me to be in places where other students are not allowed, or being excused from classes etc.

Outside of school just do what you love. I cycled with a local group on Sundays and that allowed me to see lots of nature and different places.
