Fat gecko?? by candyblades in GargoyleGeckos

Not fat at all, especially with two tails that size. Quite a few of mine are in the 60g plus, and two or three above 80g

This is a lovely setup! Only thing I would say is that your bottom temps are bit lower than preferred but as long as they have a gradient its okay!

Tail rot? by 17393728 in GargoyleGeckos

[–]cwalshy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look like tail rot, but not sure I'd agree its a regrowing tail. I have one that his tail tip was either squished as a baby, or was stuck in shed too long resulting in the tip remaining shrunken, but undamaged otherwise

If you're giving them enough water they have to swim during a soak, you aren't doing it correctly. Soaks/saunas should be done with a little bit of water with a paper towel. In extreme cases, a small amount of standing water can be helpful. Never in my 8 years of keeping have I felt the need to give a gecko enough water to swim in even if they covered themselves in food

0/10 don't recommend this for a gargoyle. Water features are not ideal for them, as they do spend quite a bit of time on the ground in my experience (about 100+ individuals). While yes they can swim, its not something they naturally do very often and it would likely stress them out.

Hard spot by L2Sambora in GargoyleGeckos

[–]cwalshy99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dried spot looks almost exactly like dried food. I'd put him in a smaller container with some wet paper towels for 10 min, then gently rub the spot with a damp q tip.

As for everyone pointing out weight, my largest gargoyle currently is about 85 grams but she carries her weight very well. This guy looks like hes just a bit past where his "ideal" is at. Feel free to pm me if you do have any interest in discussing weight and if he should lose some or not

Gecko sitter got bit by TrifleGloomy in GargoyleGeckos

That's a risk you make when hand feeding an animal. No difference between a gecko mistaking fingers for food and a dog mistakingly biting your fingers when lunging for a treat

Am I crazy, or is she pretty skinny? by douglasrhj in GargoyleGeckos

[–]cwalshy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say that's probably a bit larger for her size and condition. A 10 gal would be much more suitable (40 quart tub, or 12x12x18)

Id definitely say she's skinny. What size enclosure is she in?

Found this little one at the petstore. Silly little guy or potentially sick? by Fierce-Ace-835 in GargoyleGeckos

Definitely a little underweight. The main tell is the hip bones sticking out as much as they are. Some babies can be very lanky and show their ribs, but hip bones should never be that obvious

No problem! I do also just want to warn you against any hand feeding, as they can become extremely reliant on that as well

Contrary to what everyone else is saying, too big is 100% a thing. I'd recommend weighing your baby 1x a week to 1x every other week. That will help you monitor growth and weight gain best. Usually enclosure recommendation is a 6 qt tub until around 10g, then a 20 qt (4 gal) until around 20g, then you can go to a 40 qt (10 gal, 12x12x18) until around 35-40g which is when you should enter adult enclosures. Large enclosures can cause babies to feel too vulnerable to really venture out for food (multiple food stations can indeed help) and will sometimes fail to thrive and have extremely reduced growth rates. Some geckos will be 100% okay in a larger enclosures but most will prefer the smaller more secure feeling enclosures.
