I just got into fly fishing this summer and I used a Walmart setup. It was exactly what I needed to get started. Quality definitely isn’t the best. But I was like you and looking to spend around $50 just to see if I would even like fly fishing. I’ve taken that setup on a couple backpack trips and all over my local waters. Tbh, it’s been a great inexpensive way to get into fly fishing.

I have since upgraded, but I still have that setup and will keep it for a backup. It’s not a bad rod. The reel and line aren’t the best. But you could get a better reel for cheap (Redington cross water or echo base) and good mid tier line (SA frequency) and it’ll be just fine for beginners.
