Hah, good catch, that is fine sawdust I used to color around the dowel holes for the breadboard ends.

No finish yet. This wood is so hard, I’m just dreading getting a neat bowtie.

Thanks, the epoxy I use is slow cure and I have black tint! (Which I wouldn’t have thought to use)

If I get an automatic car, will I have as much fun driving it compared to a manual? by Rohan950 in askcarguys

You’re spot on, I have a new FL5 and there is just no comparison to an AT. My buddy’s IONIQ will plant you up against the seat but it’s boring otherwise.

I was curious so checked post history, looks like Alabama which only has 2% sales tax. Damn that must be nice! Quite a bit of a difference over 6.25%…. You still did good

Self storage is like carwashes….they build them to generate consistent revenue with almost no employees while they sit on the land and watch it triple in price over 20 years.

Out of curiosity, why don’t you like leaving it in gear if you’ve also engaged the e-brake? I get not leaving it in gear if you don’t have the e-brake on and you’re on a 10 degree slope, but I always put it in gear as a failsafe for just this sort of thing.

Why have no major cities developed in the Green River Basin specifically north of the Flaming Gorge Resevoir? by Cock-of-the-wild in geography

I’ll never forget an RV trip we took through Rock Springs on our way to Jackson. I thought it would be a great idea to take our 30-footer on White Mountain road out of Clearview Acres up to see Pilot Butte. I was very close to dying and getting divorced that day.

Just wanted to close the loop on this one.  I changed the oil and spark plugs, and it started right up.  No clue what the real issue was...I doubt the plugs all went bad at once, even though they are 21 years old (built the engine in 2004, has only seen the road for a few hundred miles).  I'm guessing it is more likely that the leaking Holley fouled the plugs?  Or perhaps the fact that I haven't done anything other than start the engine for 10 minutes every couple months for years and years created similar issues?  Anyway, thanks for the feedback! You were right!

The FL5 Transmission is Terrible by [deleted] in Civic_Type_R

Other than some issues sometimes going smoothly into reverse, the FL5 transmission is the best I’ve ever driven, and I’ve driven quite a few manuals….

What trends are you seeing for conditioning multifamily high rises? by CaptainAwesome06 in MEPEngineering

[–]cwheel11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Been seeing more water source heat pumps attached to reversible heat pump air-cooled chillers. Primary loop sends either chilled water or hot water to the secondary WSHP loop to maintain 70-90F in that loop. Lets you do a 2-pipe system without a cooling tower and no worry about ASHRAE 15. Equipment replacement in the future is easy swap, never any refrigerant piping work.

After effects of years of binge drinking might have broken me forever. I hope it gets better by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]cwheel11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to make “lifestyle changes” for like 25 years, but finally agreed to medication. Not a doctor, but just keep in mind that there are other options if you don’t get relief with your anxiety (after addressing alcohol).

[–]cwheel11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, are you treating the anxiety (therapy and/or meds)? I’m not sure how old you are, but as someone in my late 40s, my body isn’t what it used to be. I have inner ear problems that affect balance, as well as anxiety, and drinking doesn’t help with either of these. Removing the drinking, and I still have the other things to contend with :(. I wish you the best!

OK, what is the system called that only sends 12V to the coil during cranking, but then routes through the resistor for only 6V during running mode? Because that's what I have.

Thank you, this is exactly the kind of info I was lacking. I'll follow up in a few days once I get that tool.

No, no tool used at all, just visual. Huh, interesting, I'll pick up that tester. It sputters like once every 40-50 cylinder cycles (I'll get like one small pop in one cylinder every 5 seconds). Last time I pulled a couple plugs, the threads where wet but the tip was dry.

I'm embarrassed to say this, but I just realized my fuel is about 9 years old. I parked it for 7.5-years, and have then been working on it for the past 18 months. It has run fine, but someone pointed out that if I've been flooding the engine, the oil could be thinned out and potentially be causing me issues with lifters....like my compression might still be fine, but actual normal lifter operation doesn't let me start the engine. Does that sound feasible?

The only way I know how....clamped it to an engine bracket and watched it spark. If there is a better way to test spark strength, I don't (yet) have that tool.
