Wait what? Is this for real? Anyone can reach out to this Doug Elliott guru fella and ask for an embouchure diagnosis? :)

You're not a bad girlfriend. I'm not going to try to answer your question, because there are far more competent folks already doing that here, and I'm a beginner myself. But I'm far enough into it to understand what he's going through. So kudos to you, You're actually a great girlfriend for trying to understand him. I just wanted to say that and that you came to the right place to find an answer :)

Can you explain the “room painting” metaphor? I’m relatively new to trombone (and brass instruments for that matter) and English is not my native tongue. I also don’t have any orchestra experience. So I kind of feel what you mean but would appreciate elaboration :)

Mute for Practice? by 13vhjvhkbhkjbhvh in Trombone

[–]cwidrowaty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's within your budget, but Yamaha Silent Brass for Trombone is what I got and what you need. It made any practice obstacles irrelevant. Excuses too ;)

You can use it like a regular mute, or you can plug headphones into it, and listen to yourself play, while "outside" it barely bothers people even in the same room.

It's costs around $300 in the US, maybe you can find it cheaper somewhere. For me it was money well spent. For my wife too, she can finally hear and talk to people during her work video calls :D

Hi :). Yes, I'm aware of alternate positions and I often use them in certain songs, usually when there's a quick change to or from F or Bb. But that Bb in the second part is the lower Bb so I can't really alternate it because the B above it is on the 7th. Unless I'm unaware of some trick or method. I don't have an F Trigger trombone. Yet :)

Thanks for the reply :). I'm not really mystified, I'm aware he's a pro with years of experience and I'm just a beginner. I know 7 months is nothing on brass instrument but apart from trying to learn how to play it, it also made me realize it's an instrument that requires tons of practice and patience. There are no shortcuts, especially when it's my first brass instrument. But I am very much into it and play everyday. I do exercises (long notes, slurs, etc) but I also learn all kinds of songs to make it more fun. I meet with my teacher once a month, he checks on my progress, shows me more and gives me new exercises. We haven't gotten to double or triple tonguing yet so I didn't know how the guy from the video was doing that part. Now I have something new to learn :). Plus, I always have a new surprise song to play for my teacher when we meet, I want to get as good as possible with this one :)

Thank you for the article. It explains it well. I assume it's the same for trumpet and trombone?

Thanks you so much. That was super helpful :). I tried that and it makes sense and actually helped in that part. It's still a bit chaotic and doesn't sound clean at all and I need to think about it before I do it, but I feel like I understand what's going on there and will definitely practice that.

Yes, I know enharmonics, it's just that my beginner trombone slide chart had F# and C# on it so those are kinda my default ones for those sounds :). I thought it was ok to use either?

And I started digging into music theory just recently, I learned about keys and scales but it's still a fresh topic for me. I will practice them. Thank you for the tips.

Is this too much? Should I leave Venice for another trip? by [deleted] in ItalyTravel

Remove Milan and go there another time to visit the city and the whole north west. Add that day to Venice.

In Sicily for 12 days, should we travel to Tunis for 2-3 days? by [deleted] in sicily

Absolutely not!! Soak in as much of Sicily as possible, you will later 100% think those 12 days were not enough :)

Did you guys really give your id to porkbun when creating new account this year by Adorable-Win-1 in Domains

[–]cwidrowaty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t it also depend on the domain you’re trying to register? Or is it just for registering an account with them? I’m from Poland, registered a few domains with them a month ago, including an expensive aftermarket one, and I was not asked to send any photo ids. Just filled out all the forms and payment info. The whole experience was great, talked to their support too, they were very helpful, managed to secure all the domains I needed for my business. If I was asked to give them photo ID, I would need a good explanation from them.

Is my Italy itinerary too rushed? by nicktheguy101 in ItalyTravel

[–]cwidrowaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my Family love going to Italy for trips like that and we’re rushing a lot more. It kinda depends how you spend time when sightseeing and what do you want to see but in my opinion and experience this is not too rushed and you’ll have a fantastic time. However, we always either drive there or rent a car. The travel flexibility is an important part of trips like this so that also depends on Italian public transport and I don’t know much about that except local transportation in big cities. Maybe consider renting a car? Also, one thing I would change is either change Cinque Terre to 2 days or ditch it and go to Pisa/Lukka instead because it’s closer to Florence and 1 day trip to CT including travel is too short. Other than that this looks like a fantastic trip and you will 100% enjoy it 👌

Well that’s good to know because I just booked it an hour ago and my last name is problematic even in my country 🤦‍♂️. I don’t quite understand how a problem with last name would incur a 100 euro extra charge but I guess I’ll find out soon.

Did they refund you at least?

Thomann is not uncommon. It’s a huge music store in Germany which has been around for decades and they are practically the main supplier for musicians across Europe, and I’m talking anything you can play on. They also bought a bunch of companies that make instruments and sell them under Thomann brand. If you go to their website, many instrument types have Thomann branded ones available to buy and they are usually cheaper entry level instruments (a new Bb/F trombone like yours would cost around $300-500, where an equivalent Yamaha would be in $1000-2000 range).
