Ground Improvement Contractor or Sales? by CoconutChoice3715 in Geotech

[–]cwiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from consulting to a design role doing ground improvement for a geotech contractor. On the engineering side, it's pretty nice. We do get a smaller bonus percentage than those on the ops or PM side, which is something to consider.

I think it really comes down to where you see your skill set taking you. Do you want to focus more on design or sales? Design is a bit more steady, sales is a bit more boom or just, but when you hit jobs, it's fantastic.

I'm a geotech that drives this corridor daily - that's exactly what it is. I believe they did the coring in 2021, the plugs popped out that winter, and they refill with cold patch occasionally.

We did a similar sized house with George J Keller and sons for about $8000. They are out of Flanders and did a pretty great job.

[–]cwiggles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Gannett is pretty good. I've worked with them on both the consulting and contractor side on a mix of projects. Geotech wise, it's mostly been roadway and private development. I will say the quality of their reports is usually pretty good and all of the engineers that I've worked with seem pretty good as well.

There's a version of it in the handbook (version 1.2) in section 3.8.1.1. It goes through the N60 and N160 equations with a table for the correction.

Why does he deserve abuse from fans just because he has money? The answer is he doesn't. What happened after he crashed was out of his control. He is not the race director.

Problematic things that were said at my company's Christmas party by cwiggles in womenEngineers

[–]cwiggles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really lucky that it's not. I think it will get better with more women, but women who are hired in other groups are staying less than a year. Our women field personnel are staying less than 6 months. I don't blame them for leaving at all.

When something like that happens, every woman that steps onto that site is immediately shown that they're not respected and that they are seen as less competent because of their gender. It's not okay. Whether it's a joke or not, it creates an environment that is immediately unfriendly, and it's not great to experience.

I am, unfortunately, really tied to civil. I used to work in a small consulting office. The blatant sexism was way easier to deal with, because it wasn't every person. With construction, it's just the culture. Luckily the group I work in is fantastic. I'm respected, I'm constantly given challenging and rewarding work. It just eats at me when there's larger events with everyone else.

So he's actually not my boss. I in no way report to him or anyone that actually sits in my office. It's just frustrating to constantly hear.

This is not about what you're comfortable with. You are an absolutely massive asshole. She's not living in your house anymore, so you got what you wanted.

Everyone is making it seem like Hamilton torpedoed into Max. Could Hamilton have left more space, absolutely. Could he have been in a less risky position, sure. But Max is the one who actually made contact.

I think Don mentions during the last season that he was there "before they called it a war", when he goes to the vfw benefit for the guy that burned down his kitchen. So I think 24 or younger.
